The Hate Soccer Thread

are you retarded? you seem to have a very narrow view of the world? soccer and (some) sports in general transcend class. you are also calling most of europe backwards which further ads to ur stupidity.

I didn’t say that every country that likes it is backwards, just that backwards countries like it.

Okay, so how many countries that are not supposedly “backwards” watch American football or baseball for that matter?

How so? Other than kicking and foot control, what skills do they have? I think you could almost argue that they are some of the least skilled athletes.
LMAO, now I have to contest this one. Ever a kicked a ball? Ever tried to control a ball and change direction even while jogging, never mind running fast? Ball control with everything apart from your arms? The physical challenge of a tackle or an aerial battle? I love it when people say it’s just pencilnecks running around, yet if you got them on the field they would get CLATTERED. The tactics go way beyond what most people imagine and you need quick thinking to play, unlike many other sports. This quick thinking combined with unlimited movement possibilities mean that it is physically one of the most skillful games going, especially regarding balance and non-linear speed. You could maybe compare it to ice hockey but personally I find it quite repetitive as there are less playing options.

Now let’s compare this to baseball - swinging a bat the same way as hard as you can at a ball and hitting it, throwing a ball within a certain area or catching it in a frigging glove. Which is more skilled here? Obviously there is more to it than that, but the freedom of football and variety just isn’t there. Sorry but in saying what you did, you proved your complete ignorance.

We are defiantly on the same page here, and your last post hit the nail on the head, but saying that soccer players don’t have any skills is like saying PGA golfers don’t have skills because all they do is hit a little ball around with a stick. To play soccer at the level these guys are playing requires a tremendous amount of skill, just like it requires a tremendous amount of skill to pitch a baseball well, hit a home run, or run a timing route right and catch one over the middle.
I will argue that athletes competing in the elite levels of ANY sport posses very high skill levels.
I think we pretty much agree on this issue. I am not saying they have no skills. Of course playing at their level, they possess a high level of the skills required for their sport. However, I think there are fewer skills required for soccer.

Sorry, I forgot about golf, I would say that takes less athletic skill than soccer.

Americans can’t loose with style, that’s why they prefer sports that aren’t played outside of their country.

I proved my “complete ignorance”? Whatever, chief. You didn’t prove anything with your post. Running laterally while controlling a ball with your feet uses less athletic skills than many other athletic endeavors.

I think it’s harder for a centerfielder to chase down a fly ball, catch it over the shoulder going full speed with his back facing the batter, and turn and throw in time to keep the runner held at first.

Don’t read into what I’m saying. I know soccer players have skills–a very high level of skills. But those skills are for soccer, and I think that many other sports require more skills. This is why so many people hate soccer and their fans. They take offense when people don’t think their sport is the toughest or their athletes are the best. I think many other sports require more skills, including hockey.

At least the Budweiser commercial was good!

I watched the first hour of France vs Switzerland. I may have misjudged soccer in the past and, if wrong, would readily admit my error and my ripping on soccer and its fans.

Its even worse than I remembered! Talk about a snooze fest! Man, that stuff could cause us to become a hibernating species!!

Like George Clooney says to all of his dates: “Good Night, and Good Luck!!”

I wouldn’t say they are the least skilled but I don’t think they are the most skilled either.

I think basketball is far more athletic overall.

what’s the point of saying this?

again, soccer supercedes class and economic development. us in america don’t seem to care for soccer bc it is not fast paced nor “physical”. baseball’s the most boring popular sport to watch. It’s popular bc of it’s tradition of being america’s pasttime. would soccer have had the same type of attachment to america’s past societies then you bet it would be highly popular today.

Soccer will NEVER be popular here, like baseball is. Because it is boring as fuck. I don’t even think that Bush making 20 million illegal immigrant soccer fans legal here will even make it popular here either.

This game is for kids and emasculated soccer mom types. It’s the reason why so many Euro-poofs are such a lot of wimpy looking pencil necks.

Why the fuck it is being jacked off about on a weightlifting webboard is beyond me. At least baseball players lift weights and get big. Soccer players just run and look like pencilnecks.
Show me a baseball player with with superior leg and calf development than a soccer player? " Baseball players lift weights and get big" Really? It’s
this narrow mindedness that gets to me,
as if lifting weights is the only way to put on muscle. Yes, I lift weights and presume most people on this site do to, but I also incorporate hill sprints, intervals, etc… Why is this being jacked off on weightlifting webboard? I dunno, ask your protege HH, he’s the one who started this.

I am glad that this bullshit sport never caught on here. I want to see strength sports sweep this country so that there’s a gym on every corner with hours like 7-11 and not a bunch of wimpy looking fags who couldn’t bench press 70 pounds running around on grass all day.

Do you play golf? If so you would understand just how good those guys really are on the PGA. I suppose the argument would lie more with the definition of athletic skill as opposed to just skill. PGA golfers are incredibly skillful, but then again so are master chess players. I tend to think that all NASCAR drivers do is turn left, but without having competed or trained, I really don’t have any idea of the kind of skill involved. I am guessing there is a huge amount that is very subtle to my untrained eye

Soccer is a sport that every country in the world except American seems to be in to…otherwise we would have a better team.

I look at the news and in these other countries after a big game eveyone is rioting and the police are escorting the referees out before they’re killed.

Now that’s a true fan…lol

The average American couldn’t even tell you where a soccer game is being played right now.

Soccer is just not our game.

Hey Julius you fag troll who you calling pencil neck?

I think the one thing I truly enjoy about soccer is when the Brits get drunk and start tearing the Stadium apart, thats hilarious. As for the sport itself Id rather watch monkeys fuck, but if the women played naked, now youre talkin.

Could the same not be said for any sport?

Those 10 inch biceps are very intimidating.

I could only get through about 3 pages of this thread before I had to stop reading and just post. Here’s my take:

To you non-Americans:

 • American FB is as much about footwork as hands. Just because we don’t dribble a ball with our feet doesn’t mean that excellent footwork isn’t emphasized in the sport.

 • American FB is a LOT more than just big guys smashing into each other, just like Rugby isn’t just a bunch of sado-masochist freaks killing each other for a ball or pencil-necked metro soccer players running around playing with a ball.

 • Watch American FB with someone who understands the sport and can explain it well to you. I gurantee most - if not all - of you will enjoy the game a lot more.

 • American Football doesn’t take several minute-long breaks between brief plays. There are things like timeouts, TV timeouts, penalty reviews, etc., sure. Aside from that though, the pace of a game is largely dictated by what style of play the offense uses (a no huddle-spread offense will have a faster pace than an old-school smashmouth offense) and on how tight the refs are calling the game. It’s simply a different dynamic from soccer, but not this plodding cacophony of a game you describe it as.

To my American buddies:

 • Most of us aren’t soccer fans because our country sucks at it. Big deal, we only suck at it because we don’t emphasize the sport here and that’s because we’ve got something better (IMO) - American (REAL) Football.

 • I have a ton of respect for the sport of Soccer. It obviously requires a tremendous amount of skill, strategy and tactics. Most of us may not understand the game, but that much should be understood. Even if we don’t know how the strategies and tactics are applied.

 • If last Friday’s powerful image is any indication, soccer groupies have got to be the hottest out there of any sport and that’s saying a lot.

 • Let the foreigners enjoy their World Cup. This is one of the few times I’m genuinely interested in Soccer. Maybe our foreign friends are right and once our national team makes some noise in this tourney, we’ll all become big soccer fans here. I for one won’t hold my breath…

This has always been my thoughts on American sports and their attitudes to sports they suck at:

If you can’t beat them, ridicule their sport to make yourselves feel better. If that fails, turn their sport into such an abomination that only a handful of other countries will ever bother to play it.

But despite that, I still enjoy american football, if I am gonna waste 4 hours of my life, might as well watch 250 pounds juggernauts crash into each other.

Soccer still has the most skilled athletes.
American football probably incorporates the broadest range of body types of any major team sport in existence. Watch Reggie Bush (who is 6’ 205, btw) in action sometime and tell me that FB is full of big, fat guys hitting each other. If you only knew the skill required to even be a halfway decent lineman (the big “fat” guys you refer to) in college (“uni”) and pro football, you’d have a lot more respect for those supposed fat guys.
