I could only get through about 3 pages of this thread before I had to stop reading and just post. Here’s my take:

To you non-Americans:

 • American FB is as much about footwork as hands. Just because we don’t dribble a ball with our feet doesn’t mean that excellent footwork isn’t emphasized in the sport.

 • American FB is a LOT more than just big guys smashing into each other, just like Rugby isn’t just a bunch of sado-masochist freaks killing each other for a ball or pencil-necked metro soccer players running around playing with a ball.

 • Watch American FB with someone who understands the sport and can explain it well to you. I gurantee most - if not all - of you will enjoy the game a lot more.

 • American Football doesn’t take several minute-long breaks between brief plays. There are things like timeouts, TV timeouts, penalty reviews, etc., sure. Aside from that though, the pace of a game is largely dictated by what style of play the offense uses (a no huddle-spread offense will have a faster pace than an old-school smashmouth offense) and on how tight the refs are calling the game. It’s simply a different dynamic from soccer, but not this plodding cacophony of a game you describe it as.

To my American buddies:

 • Most of us aren’t soccer fans because our country sucks at it. Big deal, we only suck at it because we don’t emphasize the sport here and that’s because we’ve got something better (IMO) - American (REAL) Football.

 • I have a ton of respect for the sport of Soccer. It obviously requires a tremendous amount of skill, strategy and tactics. Most of us may not understand the game, but that much should be understood. Even if we don’t know how the strategies and tactics are applied.

 • If last Friday’s powerful image is any indication, soccer groupies have got to be the hottest out there of any sport and that’s saying a lot.

 • Let the foreigners enjoy their World Cup. This is one of the few times I’m genuinely interested in Soccer. Maybe our foreign friends are right and once our national team makes some noise in this tourney, we’ll all become big soccer fans here. I for one won’t hold my breath…
Panther, You speak with wisdom beyond your years!!! I agree with your post, I just wish you would have toned it down on the respect soccer thing, we really don`t respect it that much, just enough to passify the sensitive readers!!Peace

what’s the point of saying this?

again, soccer supercedes class and economic development. us in america don’t seem to care for soccer bc it is not fast paced nor “physical”. baseball’s the most boring popular sport to watch. It’s popular bc of it’s tradition of being america’s pasttime. would soccer have had the same type of attachment to america’s past societies then you bet it would be highly popular today.

Soccer will NEVER be popular here, like baseball is. Because it is boring as fuck. I don’t even think that Bush making 20 million illegal immigrant soccer fans legal here will even make it popular here either.

This game is for kids and emasculated soccer mom types. It’s the reason why so many Euro-poofs are such a lot of wimpy looking pencil necks.

Why the fuck it is being jacked off about on a weightlifting webboard is beyond me. At least baseball players lift weights and get big. Soccer players just run and look like pencilnecks.
Weightlifting is something we enjoy, scocer is something others enjoy, soccer players may not compete at mr olympia, and Coleman does not play soccer. They are different hobbies requiring different skills, and I like them both… your post is just retarded.

You’re also implying that someone is superior over someone else because he lifts weights. So what’s your obsession? Are you just jealous that no-one else likes the gay sports you do, do you long for the day when the world wankshaft championships will be on TV?

Oh and since you must “lift…” Want to show us a picture of your big fat “yoke?” Shall I kiss your shoes?

One final note, have you ever seen an out of shape soccer player sporting a gut? Can’t say the same for football and baseball players, or even ( gasp!) pro bodybuilders.

A gut means nothing more than body fat. Is that what you base being in shape or out of shape on? Body fat levels?
Of course you can… If I showed you the body fat levels of that 1000 pound man would you still think he could be in shape?

Ronaldo is fat.

What?

EDIT: I just looked at this again and I think you may be refering to my avatar. The difference is I’m not trying to look intimidating in my avatar. There’s also no caption under my picture calling someone a fag. Now you fail.

See, that’s the problem with soccer and its fans. I try to discuss it and all its wannabe tough guy fans come out attacking me. Enjoy you simple game for simple minds and simple bodies.

I’m not jealous of shit. I wouldn’t live in your country for a million dollars. I wouldn’t watch your gay sport if you paid me either. Why do you want to see my pic you Euro-poof? So you can “wank” to it?

You were not discussing soccer you were rubbishing it along with its fans. FYI its not my ‘first’ sport, rugby is. Now go give your pebble a hug. Damn thing looks lonely.

With regard to the pebble, SM was writing about himself and his brain size. But: we’re all excited that Supermick actually came close to writing a sentence! I think he watched too much of his beloved soccer, though, and it dulled his wits. We’ll have to wait until soccer season is over, before coherence becomes possible.

BTW: I missed Tunisia against Saudi Arabia today! I am heartbroken!

I don’t care what your “first” sport is. I didn’t ask. My posts in this thread started out neutral and respectful. But apparently soccer fans can’t do the same.

Go cry over a worthless game and kill a referee.

Best post in the thread.

Why don’t we just call this the “Your Countries Shit thread?”

Soccer is alot more athletic than baseball. How can you call socceer not a sport?

Would that be a thread about the various shites of a particular country?

Come on Alstan, proof read man! Proof read!

haha, nice one…

Just to answer some people who claim that soccer players are the most athletic people in the world, or some similar tripe, this is far from the truth:

Soccer is a sport that has long had technically astute, but not necessarily gifted or physically endowed players prevail at the highest levels.

Sure, Steven Gerrard, Kaka, Puyol and many others are great athletes in every sense of the word, but they are a minority even among the elite; look at Cruyff who chain smoked every day up until he stopped playing, or Garrincha, Rivaldo and Maradona, all frail and crippled for any other sport one could think of.

Anyone who has played football (soccer) for 90 minutes at even an intermediate level should know that while it is demanding, it’s certainly -not- that difficult to do, if you compare it with sports like boxing, or MMA, triathlons etc which require stupendous amounts of general physical preparedness.

In fact, very few of the top players even train outside of their squad preparation sessions, or pay great attention to diet because skill is valued more than athleticism in the beautiful game, although the latter can complement the former.

Did anybody else see that sports comercial where they had all the soccer players drilling in the field, and when the guy blows the whistle they all fall and pretend they are hurt. then he blows it again and they all jump up and start running again. hilarious.
I haven’t seen that commercial, but it sure sounds funny! Which is why they should change FIFA international to FIFI international, that would better suite the league. A bunch of FIFI’s all over the world facking shit like a bunch of pussies.
