The Hate Soccer Thread
alstan90 wrote:

If soccer is so bad why is it the most popular sport on the planet? And why does no-one else in the world except, say japan and canada, play your sports of baseball and american football?
Because most of the world is poor and soccer is very cheap to play.

With all due respect to the athletes that play the game it is relatively boring to watch.

I think one of the biggest fears of nations who hate America is that some day, maybe soon, the USA will…gulp…win the World Cup.

And that Americans as a whole would not care in the very least.

For all the soccer-loving-American-hating nations, to have the top prize of their beloved sport won by a nation whose citizens don’t care is probably the ultimate humiliation.
never happen. first off we won’t win. but, assuming we did win, it’d be impossible americans wouldn’t care. nike, coca-cola, and disney would see to that.

however if hell freezes over and your perverse little fantasy did come true, i think it would scarcely be reported and mostly ignored. kind of like the 2004 olympics when we lost in basketball to puerto rico, lithuania, and argentina.

You are missing the point of football. For some fans its like a multitude of sports, you have the actual fanbase and watching of the game, then you have the running bit…during the running from rival fans, the Police or Pitch invasions.

Then you have the pugilistic skills needed for fighting rival fans, the Police or someone in a pub whilst watching footy over a few pints of lager. You even have to master timing and the element of surprise like when you might want to glass someone unexpectedly.

Yep, Soccer hooligans are the ultimate athetes, I think English, Scottish, Dutch and Germans are the leading Hooligans in the world.

American’s think Football is for Pussy’s ? Think again…hardest sport in the world.

NO CONTACT???

In the traditional sense of the word. Its not as big a part of the game as in say american football, rugby, ice hockey.
In the traditional sense of the term, it is a contact sport, might be as much as other sports granted (I have played rugby union and football for over 20 years and I know the difference)

I was agreived to see someone post ‘no contact’ though, thats like snooker FFS

and the biggest losers. They could really use an actual life.

I love soccer and I’ll tell right now it isn’t. Rugby, Aussie Rules, or American football are much “harder”.

I really hate when the actions of a minority of dickhead “fans” get all the attention. A grand majority of the fans at soccer matches are not “hooligan” assholes.

i can’t stand the diving and pussy tactics employed by the majority of players. they get stepped on, or kicked in the shinpad, and writhe on the ground in agony like they have been strafed by an AK-47 …just to get up 5 seconds later and be back in the play. that just ruins it for me. it is a sport with a lot of non alpha males.

that being said…it does take great skill in the way of footwork, reflexes, anticipation, ball control, physical stamina etc etc…but 90 minutes is painfully boring to watch.
Headhunter wrote:
If 90 minutes of watching people run up and down a field chasing a little white ball just bores the living hell out of you, then post here.

I can tolerate baseball, though often fall asleep on the rare occasion that I watch a game. Hockey is fine, mostly because of the fights, and its over in 60 minutes.

I know I’ll get flamed by the soccer crowd on here. Go ahead…it’ll certainly be more lively than soccer, ice dancing, and curling, and all such other ‘sports’.

im not a soccer fan but i do enjoy watching the world cup, i enjoy a world cup in any sport.

although i can think of a lot more sports, more boring than soccer;
baseball
cricket
american football etc

i dont respect soccer players for their level of fitness because it sucks, american football sucks as a sport but the players are at very high level of fitness which is why its impressive.

baseball and cricket just suck.

American’s think Football is for Pussy’s ? Think again…hardest sport in the world.

soccer if far from the hardest sport in the world, its easy to play and easy to become good at. its not at a very high standard either the average vo2 max of a pro soccer player is 50 which is shit.

There are 3 soccer fields with in a square mile in my neighborhood that have opened within the last couple yrs.I hate the rude inconsiderate yuppie soccer moms and dads that are drawn to my area, they create one hell of a traffic problem and have the driving prowess of a moron.

I would say these fools all have their kids playing soccer because its cheap and it gives them something to talk about at the water cooler or coffee machine on mondays.Because these inconsiderate bastards have such hum-drum boring lives. and once again its a yuppie fad like harley’s and tatt’s

couple of things here…

 1. The Average for professional players is slightly higher.

 2. Team sports all have similar averages with the exception (and this isnt to cause an arguement) of sports such as American football or baseball which has no need for a developed aerobic system.

In my opinion there is a good balance of athletic qualites that a top professional must possess. They need development of all the energy systems not just aerobic power which is more directly linked with VO2max.

Concering soccer in the USA. All you need is for a winning culture to arrive. If you do well at this world cup thats a start. If your club teams start to beat other countries teams, thats another. Once you regularly develop some class players thats another. It will happen.

In the mean time, i see no reason to soccer bash. Its one of the major team sports in the world and your competing in the second most widely watched sporting event on the TV, Supporrt your team and stop playing the fucking hard man ‘theres no contact, its not our sport’ then you may learn a thing or two.

Regarding hoologanism - too many issues to delve into but its not what you think. Many guys have the middle class income, respectable jobs etc. The culture surrounding it would be difficult to explain on an internet forum.

Couple of points…

I don’t actually like Football that much, my comments were supposed to be tounge in cheek. Football mostly is spoiled by dickhead fans ranging from those cunts who live their life for ‘footy’ to the people who use football as a cover for violence and hooliganism.

Then its not really a sport most of the time in the mainstream its an advert, and all the chavs get sucked in. Buy the shirt, wank off over the Nike commercial, buy David Beckham sunglasses etc.

It was a joke…how many mainstream sports have a good chance of serious violence breaking out at any given match ? Last football match I went to…Liverpool vs Norwich many years ago, somebody threw a knife at the goalie and tried to set the terraces on fire.

Then there was a running street battle between ‘fans’ and a dad with his kid got stabbed.

See… this was more entertaining than soccer.

HH

the things i hate most about soccer is that:

it is so big and popular,
everyone loves it,
it takes all the money and fame in sport, the players are over paid,
only 10% of the pros are actually at a standard good enough to be called a pro.

Instead of arguing which sport is more boring, bla bla bla etc.

we should be out promoting minority sports like weightlifting etc.

I, for one, find soccer, while fun, very difficult to play. I’m too American, it doesn’t feel right to move a ball around without using my hands. So I’m usually the goalkeeper. Give me rugby any day.

really it watching soccer is like watching any sport, you have your great games and then boring ones. But watch out for the Brazil games you doubters they should entertain. If anyone saw the Dutch game today Robben made that one pretty fun to watch.

I’ve played many sports and i gotta say soccer is one of the hardest in my opinion and theres plenty of contact
doogie wrote:
Soccer is a great sport…

for females, kids under the age of 12, and old men who can’t take the pounding of a real football game.

In America, soccer is played past the age of 12 by only those “males” whose mothers don’t want them to get hurt playing FOOTBALL. I guess there is no harm in keeping the effiminate males in shape.

However, like the other psuedosports of nascar/womens’ basketball, it takes up too much time on Sportscenter.
Wow, what a joke of a post.

You can’t even win on bravado, since American football is a sissified version of rugby with full armor padding.

Also, most professional sports are social events. The actual “sporting” aspect of say, American football or baseball, is miniscule compared to the pile of bullshit that has nothing to do with the actual sport but is universally associated with it. Bullshit such as team rivalries, commercialism, and sports lore. These things affect all sports on a pro level, but American sports are easily the worst, since there’s not much to them to begin with.

Professional sports are associated with beer commercials, team jerseys and miscellaneous licensed apparel, BBQ’s, male bravado, conflicts with others for no good reason, gender stereotypes, nationalism, fanaticism, and more.

The purest example of a sport can always be found on the street level, with no spectators and no salaries. Going by this critera, soccer is one of the purest sports in the world, since it is played on streets and backalleys the world over.
