In America, soccer is played past the age of 12 by only those “males” whose mothers don’t want them to get hurt playing FOOTBALL. I guess there is no harm in keeping the effiminate males in shape.
However, like the other psuedosports of nascar/womens’ basketball, it takes up too much time on Sportscenter.[/quote]
Wow, what a joke of a post.
You can’t even win on bravado, since American football is a sissified version of rugby with full armor padding.
Also, most professional sports are social events. The actual “sporting” aspect of say, American football or baseball, is miniscule compared to the pile of bullshit that has nothing to do with the actual sport but is universally associated with it. Bullshit such as team rivalries, commercialism, and sports lore. These things affect all sports on a pro level, but American sports are easily the worst, since there’s not much to them to begin with.
Professional sports are associated with beer commercials, team jerseys and miscellaneous licensed apparel, BBQ’s, male bravado, conflicts with others for no good reason, gender stereotypes, nationalism, fanaticism, and more.
The purest example of a sport can always be found on the street level, with no spectators and no salaries. Going by this critera, soccer is one of the purest sports in the world, since it is played on streets and backalleys the world over.
