The Hate Soccer Thread

I can tolerate baseball, though often fall asleep on the rare occasion that I watch a game. Hockey is fine, mostly because of the fights, and its over in 60 minutes.

I know I’ll get flamed by the soccer crowd on here. Go ahead…it’ll certainly be more lively than soccer, ice dancing, and curling, and all such other ‘sports’.

If soccer is so bad why is it the most popular sport on the planet? And why does no-one else in the world except, say japan and canada, play your sports of baseball and american football?

Oh I forgot to add, football (soccer- even though we actually use our feet) IS NOT the best sport in the world. Cricket is…

I disagree… you can completely understand something and not be interested in it. I don’t know if that qualifies as your definition of “boring” though.

I think soccer would be a lot better with a wider camera angle, because for me it’s really choppy the way the ball flies way down the field to a completely different group of players… only to take a header sending it back down to the other end. For me it’s more frustrating to watch.

To me— watching baseball is boring, it just moves too damn slow to keep my interest, and I feel that it is more of a past time than a sport.
I find American football frustrating, because i can’t understand why they take so many time outs, and why their should be so many stopages; thats why I think ill stick to Rugby.

Their is no doubt that if I understood it more, I would like it more. But it’s also to do with culture. If headhunter had been raised in Brazil I bet he’d love soccer…

My neighbor, years ago, had a Scottish Terrier. The neighbor, an old lady, would throw a little white ball and the mutt would tear around the yard after that little white ball. Soccer reminds me of that.

Good. Don’t watch. The other 2.5 billion people in the world who are watching the World Cup will figure out a way to soldier on without you and you penetrating analysis of sports, as difficult as that may be. We’ll do our best without you.

Soooo most of you jumped on the douche for hating soccer,…yet you then bash american football? Smart.

Well, any sport can be made to sound just as stupid as any other sport. Really, they are all just a bunch of guys running around trying to get a ball or puck into a goal or basket. Yet, there is a lot more to it than that. That’s why we watch. Soccer is no different than anything else.

In America, soccer is played past the age of 12 by only those “males” whose mothers don’t want them to get hurt playing FOOTBALL. I guess there is no harm in keeping the effiminate males in shape.

However, like the other psuedosports of nascar/womens’ basketball, it takes up too much time on Sportscenter.

In past discussions on this board it seems soccer (Association football by its full name) is fast becomming the most participated sport in the US. For females i think this is already the case (Along with Rugby football).
If soccer is ever truely embraced by the US (This World cup might help to achieve this) i expect a lot of guys here and elsewhere in the states to take a total U turn and turn into footy fans.
Besides the olympics, this is one global event where you get to comptete against the World, not just the best club teams in North America.

HH - again you have proved your wothyness to pick the peanuts out of my shite.
I think most guys who dump on soccer should go to a live match. I went to the U.S. vs. Latvia a few weeks ago which was the final friendly for the U.S. prior to the World Cup. Without a doubt, the best looking women I have ever seen at a sporting event. Bar none. Never seen the equivalent at any baseball, basketball, hockey or football game I’ve ever been to (and I’ve been to hundreds).

And most guys who make the overly-macho claims of “tough guys” like HH or doogie are probably the same guys who tried playing soccer once and were utterly embarassed by someone else, hence it must be a sissy/metro sport. Of course, they might also be the same guys who talk about how tough football is, but never play either…

I would think anyone who has not been raised around American football would find it frustrating to watch. Best to sit down and watch it with someone who understands the game and can explain what is going on. I had someone do that for me at a U.S. vs. France rugby match a year or so ago and I ended up enjoying it all quite a bit.

Watching a bunch of pencilnecks kick around a stupid ball is not really my thing either.

I would tune in to watch this chick play in this outfit though: http://www.T-Nation.com/forum_images/1101554.1149835418207.WorldCup.jpg

Well, like I said before, soccer is a hell of alot more fun to watch then baseball or nascar.

I am a rugby fan myself, but I still enjoy watching soccer. I prefer watching rugby over anything, and I pick a soccer game over an american football game (honestly, 4 bloody hours? Its more like 2 hours of commercials with some contact sport in between).

Reasons americans dislike soccer:

 1. You suck at it.
 2. Low scoring.
 3. No contact.
 4. You have to use your feet (here its all about the hands)
 5. Not “macho” compared to other sports.

Personally, I think soccer has the most skilled athletes out of any sports in the world, Ronalddinho anyone?

the term soccer comes from england, so it’s not some egregious offense to refer to the game as soccer.
Okay, but the diehards would like everybody to know that a “soccer field” should really be called a “pitch.”

Did anybody else see that sports comercial where they had all the soccer players drilling in the field, and when the guy blows the whistle they all fall and pretend they are hurt. then he blows it again and they all jump up and start running again. hilarious.

I think one of the biggest fears of nations who hate America is that some day, maybe soon, the USA will…gulp…win the World Cup.

And that Americans as a whole would not care in the very least.

For all the soccer-loving-American-hating nations, to have the top prize of their beloved sport won by a nation whose citizens don’t care is probably the ultimate humiliation.

MEXICO 3- IRAN 1

Ol?.

Gotta admit that I’ve become a fan in the past day or two.

Soccer really is a great sport to watch on TV; you can see the plays develop with almost geometric precision.

Can’t wait until Tuesday: BRAZIL, BABY!

Another thing I like about soccer–the coach for Mexico was smoking on the sideline. You have to respect that.

In the traditional sense of the word. Its not as big a part of the game as in say american football, rugby, ice hockey.

soccer commercials are the best. go to youtube and lookup the nike ones, they have some great indoor soccer ones from the last world cup.
