Underwater basket weaving.

In all seriousness, I would say that a goalie in hockey is probably a tough thing to do and really tough to be number one at. It requires athleticism, strength, flexibility, extreme mental toughness, etc. and it’s like an individual sport. I guess that’s why many of the so called ‘experts’ call it ‘the toughest position in sports’.

Makes sense.

Personally, I would say it would be pretty tough to be the best at soccer with so many ppl around the world playing it.

Same with tennis and it’s also an individual sport, so it’s impossible to draft off of successfull teammates like with basketball and Amercian football, for example.

100M sprinter would be a tough one. You really need to be blessed with a God-given talent AND work really hard. Remember, in just about every sport we mentioned ppl are running. Everyone in the world runs.

Cool topic, tho.

I think artistic gymnastics because it requires extreme coordination, strength, flexibility, courage, strength endurance. There are a lot of skills to learn.

Anybody can run, jump, hit a ball, light a weight to some extent in that they are natural movements for people (though obviously doing them very well deserves a lot of respect) but just doing some of the required movements in a gymnastics competition would be impossible for most people so they would kind of leave without a recorded result. Figure skating would be a second except it’s more limited in demands.

I’m going to say golf, I mean you have to be better than Tiger Woods? Come on. Millions upon millions of people play golf day in and day out. And there is 1 guy who is far and away better than anyone else, and you have to be better than he is?

It’s also something that isn’t restricted by genetics as basketball or sprinting or the NFL is. I mean some of them are so restrictive in thier specificity, that it’s not even a realistic proposition.

What about tennis? Look at Federer.

No one will ever be better than Sugar Ray Robinson.

And if you want to become #1, you have to have the heart of lion and the willingness to take more physical abuse than any other sport dishes out… when that bell rings, ain’t nowhere to hide…[/quote]

Off topic, My grandfather was a golden gloves amatuer and he was also a sparring partner with Sugar Ray Robinson. Cool Eh?

Possibly, But isn’t Nadal supposed to be the next federer? Isn’t federer just the next Samprass? I don’t follow it too much so obviously I could be WAY off. I know he is the curent reigning king of tenniss but is he the best ever and it’s not even close?

Rugby

My definition of sports to competition.

Sports where the opposing team can directly affect your play or performance or score.

Competition where you compete against other individuals or teams where they don’t directly affect your performance or play or score.

Sports=football, soccer, basketball.Yes even car racing- but to a lesser extent.

competition= Golf, bodybuilding,darts,gymnastics.

now people competing in lets say gymnastics/swimming/golf/bodybuilding are incredible athletes but that doesn’t make it a sport just a high level competition.

just my .02 cents.

Oh btw any form of Martial Art is the toughest/hardest sport there is.

Chess, poker, and rock-paper-scissors are sports by this definition.

You didn’t mention that in your definition.

This thread is stupid.

are you trying to say that rock paper scissors isn’t a sport?

Chess boxing,I’m being serious here.Look it up.It’s something like 3 rounds of boxing followed by 10 minutes of chess or something,it’s billed as the most gruelling test of both physical and mental ability.Sounds very hard.

To be safe though,I’m gonna say rugby. Now that is a hardcore sport.

Yea, I guess he wasn’t like his full time partner or anything, but he was a very good amatuer here in Utica and also boxed in the military. I remember my father telling me he was a sparring partner with Sugar Ray, I’ll see if he knows more details, like was it once, or a couple times or whatever.
