The combination of mental and physical strength, and pure skill required surpasses any other sport. What makes this sport unique is that you need a combination of everything to truly succeed, you can’t make it with just skill alone.
I’d say basketball, soccer, and track are tied for top spot.
basketball- Deep talent pool and worldwide participation, requires as much, if not more, athleticism than any sport in the world, complex skill-set, and of course height is a limiting factor for many people.
Soccer- has the deepest talent pool and greatest participation of any sport in the world, so developing the skill set and athleticism to even compete with top players is a long shot.
track (most difficult distance is debatable, but I would vote for the 100m, 200m, and 400m)- running is the most accessible sport on the planet. large worldwide participation.

LOL @ baseball being mentioned in the same sentence as being the hardest sport. A bunch of fat asses stannding still 95% of the time or sitting on a bench. Wow, there’s skill. Most unskilled sport ever.
While this is sooooo retarded and clearly you have never played baseball on a high level, I must admit that I stared at your avatar for about 5 minutes. So you are even in my book as of now.

Kidding, not that there’s anything wrong with that.
…I keep reading this and laughing…you have given me this mental image of people in a circle fully committed to a frantic activity, highly competitive with one another…and the noise…Oh the horror!

The worlds most highly paid athletes come from golf, formula 1, soccer and basketball. The best golfers earning far more than any other athletes, i guess it’s a very nice hobby if you’d like to call it that.
Mind you most of the money the very best players get comes from outside of the sport, sponsers etc.
A lot of you yanks say baseball/ basketball/ football. Probably in the US. Outside of the US these sports are very small, and worldwide i’d say soccer (it’s actually called football) purely because of the number of people who play it, and the number of different clubs/ championships and leagues; I don’t think you guys know how big a sport it really is.
Or F1, you need to have crazy skills to be an F1 driver. Puts it into perspective when you see people who regularly drive super cars, completely fail to handle F1 cars.

If you can say that sprinting is hard because lots of people run, why not F1, most of the population over a certain age drives.
Haha I enjoyed that response but keep in mind most people can’t get a driver’s license until a certain again, people learn to run much earlier so people also can practice it longer.

its impossible to become #1 in any sport b/c it would take more than one life time to play everyone in the world and truly know that you are indeed #1
I don’t have to play the third grader down the street in a game of basketball. I already know I can beat him.
