The Grind...

Hi Kent, it’s been a little while, your routine is just fascinating me. Your leg workout sounds like a killer. I’ve tried sissy squats and they hurt.

As for the ammonia smell, simplest explanation is that you were on the verge of vomiting.

Damn, just reading about your sessions is exhausting. As already said, it’s that dedication that sets you apart. Keep driving.

Dammit. Insecurity has suddenly hit me like truck. This, I am not used to.

fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuck

On the ammonia question ; 2 possibilities, simplest is bacteria in your workout clothes feeding on the sweat and oils.

Second is that you could be breaking down protein to fuel the workout, not so good, don’t want to worry you but if it’s the latter then fuel of some sort during the workout might help.

Just a thought but i was getting this before i started using Biotest Surge Workout Fuel and don’t now.

Is the smell ketosis? I don’t know about cutting for a show, but I know a lot of anorexics get really smelly breath. Starvation leads to acidosis leads to ketone breath. I know you’re not starving, but maybe it’s something along the same lines?

HIGH REP SQUATS STINK… LITERALLY

Well this is interesting. At the very end of my quad workout, I’m supposed to do one set of 15 reps of paused squats. This is, drop my butt as close to the floor as physically possible without going ass-over-teakettle, pause for a second and then explode up. It is, of course, brutal. But today, by the end of the set I started to smell/taste AMMONIA in my sinuses.

What the hell is this? Clearly I was tapping into to some funky pathway of the anaerobic energy cycle, but this is new to me. Any geeks with an explanation?[/quote]

What was your diet like that day? Low carb?

Ammonia can often be a sign of your body using Amino Acids as fuel. I’ve had this a few times when I am super low carb.

Did this happen just as you scaled back food intake?

this is where you are exceptional- that you are still pushing it
even when you should change your pants

nice work

I think Ddot and Paches2 are on to something

high protein low carb - sometimes smelling like amonia
I swear I read this in someones log
ok someone elses log

or DJ is right and your shorts where just extra ripe

Zowza! You guys are pretty awesome. Much like kmc I’m kinda humbled by all the positive e-support. I’ll confess, I needed it. Which is probably why I came here begging for it a couple nights back. You see when I get into a funk I either crank up some music and shake myself out of it, or I use a lifeline and “call a friend” who then delivers the required bitch slap. If this happens AT NIGHT, I just lie there and stew and make myself crazy.

Then I get up and post something apocalyptic in my log.

Come morning when I feel better, I go back to remove my post and find that there’s already responses. Then I feel stupid.

Anyways, thanks to all of you. I appreciate it.

Todd - I think the “aminos as fuel” makes a boatload of sense. Yes it always happens on low carb days, when I’m doing something high rep and intensity. I think you nailed it.

kmc - Okay, I did NOT shit myself. But thanks for the backhanded compliment, you poopy head!

cav - The reason for my PMS comes from a number of places, and carb-withdrawal is almost certainly a factor. The other is that as a person climbs higher up this ladder, you start to notice the people who are more advanced than you. It can eat a guy up if you let it.

Patch - I’m sorry I can’t hear what you’re saying over the sound of how sexy your avi is.

Nurse - You could also be onto something here, but protein as fuel isn’t necessarily a bad thing. If there’s no free glucose in the blood, then the next pathway would be energy from fat. But under stress, the body might go after free protein. I can’t see muscle breakdown occurring that fast.

James - All my workouts are like that. Six f##king days a week. It’s exhausting. But then again, I think that’s the point…

Derek - I DID NOT SHIT MY PANTS!!!

You train legs on low carbs? FML

On a dare…

Wheres the spangly briefs?

Damn. When your muscles stretch the T shirt to near bursting, you’re doing something right!

I know exactly what you mean about seeing people more advance than you, it eats me up too. Guess it comes from a competitive nature, you just can’t accept a losing position. We all read Education of Bodybuilder and think, wow, a guy who has no one ahead of him, wonderful! Too bad it only happens to one guy at a time.

The answer? I guess just get to the gym and make yourself better. Something, anything, keep going, any progress at all keeps you going. Like when you ran your partner into the ground doing squats? That got the testosterone pumping!

Looking good buddy… you’re going to do very well.

Unlike Matty, I appreciate the modesty!

Looking good and I agree with ddot in that I’m sure you’re going to do very well.

x2

Ignore Matty’s request for the banna hammock.

He’s had one to many shots to the head.

This is Doug. Doug is an operator at the facility where I work, and he is in frighteningly wicked shape. Up until very recently we didn’t talk about iron and lifting because, quite frankly, he intimidated the hell out of me. Anyways, he made the first generous gesture and said we should lift together.

Saturday we went to work out, and he wanted to follow my program. I was nervous about embarrassing myself because… well… LOOK AT HIM!!!

A1 Military Press 6x6x135
A2 High Pulls 6x6x145

At this point, I apparently killed Doug.

During the sixth set he twanged his back so bad he had to quit, and is now seeking out his chiropractor.

F##k!

Todd - These days I train everything on low carb days. I no longer have any “high” days, and the “medium” days drop out this week. I believe all that I have to look forward to are “low carb” and “zero carb” days for the next 4 months. And I look far, FAR better when I keep my shirt ON!

Matty - I TOLD you, my divisions allows no spangles, patterns, or crushed velvet for the trunks. They have to be simple, one color, full coverage. Of course mine will be bright purple…

Cav - Thanks for the kudos. Actually what gets the T levels going is crazy monkey sex. ANyone know where I can get some?

James - I got no clue how I’m going to do. Sometimes I check out photos from previous competitions in this division and I am clearly out of my depth. Then I see others, and I start to think I might actually fit in. Fuck, I have no clue.

Joe - Yeah, Matty repeated, sexually ambiguous requests for homoerotic photographs is tarting to creep me out.

Tomorrow I’m off to Hawaii…

… and I’m on a pre-contest diet.

FACK!
