My son just can’t bring himself to eat. He lost 10, gained 5 only to lose it again.
He’s 15 and has lost size and strength. His lifts are way down.
When I was a boy, I had horrid trouble keeping weight up. Looking back, I see several reasons:

Eating too much grain and stuff. I’m sensitive to gluten, as soon as removed stuff that bothered me, appetite went up. Does your kid have food allergies?

Not enough protein. At 15, your body is screaming for stuff to grow on.

When I’m stressed or anxious, my appetite goes AWOL. And I was stressed a lot as a boy.

Is the food appealing?

Also be sure the kid’s staying active. A little exercise does wonders for the appetite.

EDIT: rereading your post - OMG. Have you taken the kid to the doc?

I find this to be an extremely important topic… plus she’s hot n’ perky.

^^ after listing to her voice my temple started to throb over my right eye.

There are times I wonder WHY I am busting my hump so hard for this ridiculous journey. I was in the middle of oen of thos eruminations when a really excellent person sent me something great. I don’t knwo who said this, but here is a clip.

"Most of you say you wanna be successful, but you don?t want it bad. You just ?kinda? want it. You don?t want it as bad as you wanna party. You don?t want it as bad as you wanna be cool. Most of you don?t want success as much as you want to sleep. You want to sleep more than you want success. And I?m here to tell you if you want to be successful, you gotta be willing to give up sleep? That?s how bad you gotta want it.?

Okay I’m stuffing myself to the point of being uncomfortable all day long. And while I desperately want to complain and whine about it, my weight is up 5 lb since the start of the month. My coach my be a sadistic motherf##ker, but he appears to know what he’s doing.

It’s Tuesday, and I got my morning bloat on… alright ladies, who wants to rub my distended belly?

And by the way, last night Captain Canada was keeping the streets of Medicine Hat safe for the little trick or treaters.

NICE!!! Captain Canada. Is there a difference between Captain Canada and Captain Canuck? You went all out, it looks great.

LOL that has to be your new Avi,

Do they have the Mcrib up in Canada? I think it should part of your diet…

My next challenge is getting through the food. I had 2 liters of fruit/whey/oatmeal at 4am, 2L of Surge through the workout, and now my belly is bloated and I’m supposed to stuff down a monster breakfast. How do you massive-eaters do this?!?!? I suppose that’s why guys like Matty and Pete are built like monsters and I have a the willowy figure of a ballerina.

Onwards!
I don’t know how people have willowy figures. I find it easier to be on a constant bloat then not. It’s hard to keep myself from weighing 300 lbs. I’m hovering around 260 right now which is skinny for me.

Welcome, I’m a fellow newbie, also more of a bodybuilder. I can relate to not fitting in. Its the same here, most midddle age dads, I’m over 45 so there’s no denying it, are out of shape, into boozing it up and if they train don’t do legs. I can tell you that you can expect some increase in aches and pains as you progress thru your 40’s, I know I have. But if you train smart, keep your mobility and warm up properly you will still be able to train hard.

Good work so far.

Kents here to save the day.

You mean, as opposed to yours?

Today I got fitted for my trunks. Clearly this endeavor will eventually require the removal of ALL body hair.

I’ve not been going into details about my training, largely out of respect for coach, but also because with all the single-leg work, high rep stuff, and weird isolation exercises the weights I’m moving aren’t worthy of public mention here in “Powerlifting Central”. Things are working, though, as I’m up 6lb this month. One more month of this puke-inducing level of eating and then we start dieting for May. A month seems like a long time right now. I’ve never before looked forward to a diet.

Im off to L.A. for a mini-vacation, just me and the wife. I’m hoping to get caught up 'round here!

I can TOP IT

Cav - did you miss the abundant sarcasm? Here’s how you can tell when I’m being sarcastic: I’m speaking/typing/communicating.

Dogg - dude, my costume was WAY more butch… I’m telling myself at least. And monumentally less ghey than my trunks are going to be. Sob.

Centurian - glad to meetcha! We bodybuilder types gotta stick together, else the powerliftrrs will pick us off one by one and eat us.

Eco - and 190 is HUGE for me. Funny, no? As for willowy joints, When I wrap my fingers around my wrist bone, my finger overlaps my thumb tip. Sad.

Matty - no McRib up here. But WW do have the McWhinyBitch burger.

Dday - the main difference between Captain America and Captain Canada is the Cpt. Canuck uses strong language instead of a gun.

We have a lot in common!

So what exactly is the point of forced feeding/hi rep isolation stuff? Build mass, or define, or something?

Hey, you’re in L.A.! Whereabouts? I used to live there (am told it’s run down since). My sister lives out around Simi Valley somewhere.

Captain Canada huh?..wow. Sounds like your coach is the real deal. I never had much of a problem adding weight but getting cut was always a 16 week ordeal of egg whites, fish, chicken, oatmeal…well you get the picture. The reward at the end is the satisfaction of knowing that you’ve pushed yourself to your limit and came out the other side a stronger person. Very few people have the dedication to train for a powerlifting meet or bodybuilding show. It takes a mentally strong person. Congrats on having the guts to begin the journey.

I was in LA last year, found muscle beach a bit of a let down. Spent more time in San Diego which I really liked.

Train hard or go home.
