The Grind...

Good workouts, more PB’s to come. I like the variations DB snatches is a personnal fav, or DB C&P people just give you strange looks when you start grinding out heavy one’s.

There is something to be said about the crowd you hang with for sure. T-Nation has done more for me over the years than any other group of people (regarding training). I know there are days I don’t want to lift but in the back of mind I think about how I have to explain to the guys why I wussed out. It’s funny, we don’t actually know each other personally and most of us will never likely meet but there is a level of accountability that drives and motivates.

What format is your pic? I’ve found that jpeg and png work fine.

Amen Dday

Fucking this!

Bro there are a lot of people on here (like myself) that feel outclassed by what you do so the feeling is mutual.

time to get big. bulk up to 250, start doing highland games, strongman and powerlifting.

or not, you know…

Yesterday: back skwatz for the first time in 2 months… sets of 10… heavy lunges… NO F##KING CARBS…

Today: epic DOMS… the suggestion of abs…

This is SO worth it!

MJ - I have this theory… The body does not like to build muscle because it is metabolically expensive. We all know for the non-sauced athlete a really good rate of muscle increase is 1 lb a month… so it is a long process. The only time the body doesn’t actively resist the muscle gain is if there is accompanying body mass (i.e. fat, water, blood) to support it. Based on my totally non-scientific research, I’m guessing roughly a pound per pound of muscle. SO basically, get really fat and then the body accepts the muscle gain. So if I want to weigh 190 really tight, I first have to weigh about 230 pounds, and be pretty fat about it. So I guess I’m saying you’re right. DAMMIT!

Matty - That’s total horseshit, but I appreciate it anyways. FWIW, I’d trade physiques with you in a cold minute!

Dday - A friend’s dad is a judge for the Court of Queen’s Bench. He told me that people are more motivated by peer pressure than the law… so you’re right on. And by the way… my three best friends in the world I met through my “other” workout/nutrition site. So you never know who and when you’re gonna meet your “virtual” friends.

Dude - The gym I use has a well-lit, sexy, softcore upstairs weight room, and an ugly, well stocked, hard core basement weight room we call the pit. It’s populated with powerlifters. Nobody gives anybody weird looks down there because everybody is doing some weird shit that looks as much like bondage as weighlifting. It’s very liberating!

Cav - Sorry to disappoint, but a guy dieting properly should never lose strength. You’ll just have to keep working!

Null - I think I’m going to take a run at carb/calorie cycling (a la Shleby Starnes) this fall.

congrats on the tough workout. Lunges . . . I’m sorry, I’ve got PTSD on lunges. I can’t forget from years ago one gym where over and over some moron comes marching down the aisle doing lunges and I have to jump out of the way at the last minute. You never know when it’s coming.

Fair enough on the dieting. I’ve heard horror stories about bodybuilders who panicked at the last minute and lost 20 lbs a week and had to carried onto the stage. Of course, if you do it right, not so traumatic. Old Navy took it slow and sure and when I saw him at the meet, he was chipper and healthy. I’ll bow to your experience.

Suggestion of abs! lol, I love it, I once thought of abs but thats as far as it went.

I came across something that made me think of you. I know that you have mention that your biggest issue regarding hitting the stage is that you feel that you lack the mass. I guess the NPC is now offering a new category in there contest. I figure you might what to give it a glance.

I don’t actually feel like blogging right now. But as I gird my loins for about an hour’s worth of cleaning the mini-van, I find my iPod to be completely out of juice. There’s no way I can go through this without music and podcasts… and possibly therapy. So I’ll blog while the damned thing sucks up a few electrons.

JUST THE FACTS MA’AM

Thursday
Overhead squat - 6x95, 5x95 (TWANG), 10xbar
Squat - 8x225, 5x255, 9x205, 4x255, 8x185, 5x225
Forward lunge - 10x65, 10x65, 10x65, 10x65
A Pistol - 3, 3, 3
B reverse hyperextensions - 12, 12, 10

It’s been almost a year since I did overhead squats. Clearly I was hyperextending my back on the bottom because all of a sudden there was PAIN. Must eb more careful with these. Skwatz felt really heavy. It’s been months since I’ve done a straight up back squat, so I’ll chalk this up to CNS retardation. I defintiely worked, though, the DOMS are still killing me three days later.

Friday
A1 Cuban rotation/press - 8x45, 8x55, 8
A2 Straight arm pushdown - 8x100, 12x120, 12x150
B1 Military press - 10x95, 5x135, 10x95, 5x135, 10x95, 5x135
B2 Pullups - 10x0, 5x35,10x0, 5x35,10x0, 5x35
C1 BB corner press - 8x45, 8x70, 8x70
C2 BB corner row - 8x90, 8x115, 8x115
C3 BB corner twist - 8x25, 8x25, 8x25

Ah yes, the infamous corner triple set. How I hate these. They are a killer.

Remember WAAAAAAY back I was ocmplaining about a couple of meatheads screaming their way through their workouts? Well there’s a bulletin board right in front of the entrance to the basement gym. I surreptitiously put up a print-out photograph of a chick doing bicep curls and yelling her head off with the caption: “Why are you SCREAMING???!”

So there it sat in front of the door for a week before somebody took it down. The yelling has not repeated.

See? Passive aggressive really works!

Buldogg - If you look at those guys, they’re pretty much bodybuilders in board shorts. Every one of them is bigger than the competitors in the natty divisions. And it’s not the fact I feel like s kinny bitch that’s keeping away from the stage. It’s the fact my wife would probably castrate me in my sleep.

Cav - I do lunges in the cage. No collateral damage.

My knees hurt today. For no reason! I took Saturday and Sunday completely off, today was dealift day with virtually no knee action, the only knee bending I did was getting in and out of the car.

WTF?

Well, maybe you’re just getting old. I mean, chicks are talking about your medicine-y Ben-Gay aroma.

Today, Aphrodite, goddess of love and penultimate hotness, descended to earth, put on yoga pants, and did bench presses on the bench next to me. Life is good.

Was she doing 5/3/1?

Would have been a perfect opportunity for a well angled vid of one of your lifts.

Just saying.
