The French

Got this quote from AFP (French Newspaper).

This is describing the American electorate:

“They rejected Kerry’s more-nuanced view of the war on terror that relied on intelligence, diplomacy and economic clout as much as sheer firepower.”

Their anger makes me happy.

europeans are partly responsible for bush’s victory. one british newspaper had its readers write voters in ohio to get them to vote for kerry. I am sure that helped a great deal…

To paraphrase author P.J. O’Rourke - France is the ass end of the international moral compass.

Chirac was and I am sure still is friends with Saddam. How can anyone take you seriously when you hang out with someone that lets there son take 13 year girls as concubines.

he also decided to make a quick stop to say hi to yasser arafat in the hospital yesterday…he’s a real stand up guy.

An 18th century French general asked an 18th century English general why the Brits always wore red coats into battle. “Well,” said the Brit, “it is so that if the platoon leader is shot, the blood will not show and cause panic among the troops.” The Frenchman was most impressed and decided to give the idea a try in his own country. And so, to this day, the French army always goes into battle wearing brown pants.

oh shut up!
nobody in france really gives a shit about whos the president in USA. stop crying about the french. not a week goes by that you dont bitch about them.
at least they had the balls to say no to the only superpower in the world.

Becareful of what french says about USA… Didn’t we save their asses from world war I and II? We might not do it next time…

Well ole’ buddy, if you look closely you will see a smile after my comment. I sort of found it amusing that someone would defend the French, in that manner.

My question to you is this: Why must you judge me?

You need to look at your history books. If it weren’t for the French, the English would have kicked our ass in the Revolutionary War.
They sided with us due to a mutual hatred for the English.

Chints, when you are done answering my first question, I have another: Why is Perkele judging JeffR?

What was more nuanced about Kerry’s view of the war? Was it that he wanted more international forces to go along were Bush would be happy that America went in by herself? Really, who cares? The end result is the same.

The USA didn’t save as much as we’re led to believe, in each of the World Wars. In fact it was the position of this country not to get involved in any “foreign wars”. This led to a last minute entrance in both conflicts (ie 2 years late in EACH). We’d certainly have a different view if we were land locked with our aggressors.

The whole Pacific conflict, and its result, was mighty impressive, but we don’t have the bragging rights of “saving the world” as we’d like to believe.

What?!?!?
Maybe I’m an idiot - but nothing you just said made a bit of sense.

We might have entered late, but who liberated France in WWII? Damn sure wasn’t Finland. Who lost all those brave heros on Normandy? Damn sure wasn’t the French - they were all to bussy trying to find white flags. Which country staffed NATO at the height of the Cold War? Damn sure don’t think that Canada comes into play here.

We are the Superpower we fashion ourselves to be. We are the Superpower the entire world has fashioned us to be.

And the French are the chicken-shit cowards they have historically fashioned themselves to be.

 Well ZEB the only reason I did that was to elicit an answer. And I knew that you’d be asking me this question.

Anyway, if someone else is doing something wrong, that doen’t make it ok for me to do it, does it? I hope you see my point

chints, I’m not sure you understand your “point.”

You should have first inquired why Perkele was judging JeffR. Then, since you apparently don’t like others judging in any way, you should not have judged me.

However, since this is merely a message board and not to be taken all that seriously…who cares?

I’ve both served with and trained with the French before, and I have no complaints regarding them…it’s just that their home country’s policies suck. I’ve never actually been to France, but from what I’ve heard, they really don’t like us “cocky” Americans. Most of them don’t realize that if it wasn’t for us, they would be goose-stepping through their streets with a swastika on their arm, and they would probably be speaking German. However, they DID help us win our independence, (even though they probably did it just to see the British lose). It’s Ok though. When they need us next time, we just might not come storming onto their beaches like so many of our own did back in '44. Oh by the way, just a little history in case you’re interested; The battle cry “Rangers Lead The Way” came about in the Normandy invasion. RLTW

Alright, the Allies stormed Normandy, not just the mighty US. Some allies were involved in the conflict a lot longer than the US was. At one time Canada was known for achieving objectives, even at horrible costs. Those men also died heros, thank you very much.

However, a different question, how many centuries does the US get to hold WWII over the heads of the French? I mean, when everyone who was alive and old enough to remember the war is dead, do you think it is fair to let the younger generation form their own opinion of the US.

Or perhaps they should forever be on the ground kissing your feet because at one point your ancestors did something grand for reasons other than bragging rights?

No, don’t bother to answer, I already know the answer to this… there is only one country on the planet that matters to anyone. Here, let me throw myself on the ground and worship your feet now before you crush my country for my impudence.

Oh, yes, the French do appear to be on the wrong side of issues a fair amount these days. That doesn’t mean you have to dehumanize and villify them, or is that the only trick left in the book?
