Last time I visited the States I went to Vegas for 10 days. I didn’t finish a single meal. God bless America.
PSST Those are buffets. You can’t “finish” them: only be evicted.
Or as we call it in America: “A Thursday”
AYCE buffet at the Palms would be my recommendation if anyone wants to unlock achievement: escorted out by security
My personal record at a buffet is 13 full plates plus dessert.
Per side?
I did have a plate on each side of me and two forks
I am annoyed… my oldest son is starting a internship this week tied into his major.( sport/exercise science). What has annoyed the ever living fuck out of me is I do not feel he got it on his own merits. Now I mind you he is a 4.0 student and was awarded recently for being one of the top students at his college . BUT I feel he didnt go out of his way for this internship or any other…NOPE
He took advantage of my relationship with this individual who is interning under. So as strange as this seems I am slightly put off by it!

On a side note… I have had communication with the individual he will be interning under and have asked for him to be demanding as hell on him.
As long as he puts forth the effort and learns from the experience I really don’t think it’s a bad thing. It’s not always what you know but who you know a lot of times in life. He’s obviously a hard working kid so be happy your friend thinks highly enough of you both to give him the opportunity.
You know you’re Asian when you’re parents offer up connections BEFORE you start looking for an internship ![]()
HE initiated the conversation??? My parents would be dancing with joy if I did that ![]()
i didn’t offer it up…
Is it possible that he feels he has his own relationship with the guy supervising him?
Also, I think reaching out is what you’re expected to do to obtain the opportunity to work for free, or nearly so. I don’t see the foul, since he actually HAS the merits.
I guess he just has very high expectations (or humblebragging
)- his son sounds very impressive
I don’t think bulldog is the type to humblebrag lol
My Asian bran simply tried to rationalize his reaction
Came home from the gym to find my wife sitting on the floor in our bedroom playing call of duty on the Xbox one we bought for my son for Christmas. I guess while he’s at school we are gonna play with it and then box it back up till Christmas ![]()
She also said (playing live) “wow! These guys are so brave, they are like real missionaries!” ![]()

I think understand where he’s coming from. Imagine having straight As just because you picked the easiest classes instead of choosing hard classes with no guaranteed As but you get to learn a lot (not just academically) by working hard for your grade, even if after all that hardship you just get a passing mark. It looks like his son took the easy road. I think that’s where bulldog is coming from
That’s what I did in Hs
My transcript looked impressive on paper (13APs +IB HL history), but I chose the easiest classes w/ some serious grade inflation… worked well enough for me ![]()
Asian perspective aside, we can solidly place performance like this well inside the top 1% of students in the world. Could he maybe have tried harder to get the internship? Sure. Is networking and using connections to your advantage, provided you’re not slacking in your own work, a viable skill to use in the workforce and in life? Absolutely. I think @bulldog9899’s concern is reasonable, but I also think he’s covered his bases by being critical and by letting his friend know to be extra hard on him.
Much respect for your tough love and wanting your kids to make it on their own either way, bulldog.
I mean, at least he didn’t pursue a degree in geology before releasing a book on lifting…
