The Flame-Free Confession Thread II

Follow up “confession” to yesterday’s: university is good and shit, but I’m already feeling them effects of sleep deprivation. I only managed to get in 4 hours of sleep last night and I feel like a zombie. And I’m predicting it’ll be like this 4 days out of 7 every week (luckily we have no class on Mondays in addition to the weekend). And I’m hitting a Deadlift workout in an hour. Yay

Take naps. They work

I always try to get around 1 hour of sleep during the afternoon but I don’t always manage to. Today I probably got around 40 minutes of napping in between the train trip back home and when I actually got there. Unfortunately the day is only 24 h long and there isn’t always the time to nap, although I’ll definitely take the opportunity when I can.

I guess I would be in a better spot too if coffee actually had an effect on me. Unfortunately drinking coffee has never helped me and doesn’t make me feel any more awake.

The solution is always creative text message breaks.

Text 1 “Honey, be careful: I have mono”

Her-“WHAT?! Just WHO have you been kissing?! How did you get this?!”

Text 2 “lift attachments coming in the mail. The boxes are heavy: don’t try to pick them up”

She’ll be so relieved that you’re just talking about dumb meathead stuff she won’t even register it.

Another yes to this, and agree strong NO to posting anything work-related ever to social media.

Text 1 will get my balls cut off…
So I will take text number 2
Found out via email that delivery date is only in 2 days…

No no, you send BOTH texts, just with a break inbetween. You can always end a third text that says “sorry, stupid phone” to cover yourself.

Well after doing research along with weighing the pros and cons I went with the Titian 36 inch deep "shorty "X-3 floor mounted. Honestly only thing negative I kept coming across was these 3 things.

  1. Shipping… I guess in the past that their packaging sucks. As long as I got all the Hardware I dont care.( the shipping was free so dont give a damn)

2.Powder coating isnt the best… if it does the job dont care if its pretty
3. Welds dont look that pretty… again dont care as long as they dont break. ( haven’t come across those complaints)

I cant complain I spent 1/2 of what I would have with Rogue for almost the same thing.

Don’t even need to add anything to be honest, and it seems you’ve already made your mind up. You get one life, it ain’t worth the risk losing it at work. You have a young family, take yourself out of the equasion and think of whats going to be more beneficial for them man

This keeps bothering me. The cranes in the aforementioned hell hole were always screwed up. They were legitimately terrifying.

Nothing like showing up to work to yellow caution tape and a giant red smudge on the floor, then asking “Hey, where’s Tom?”

“He’s gone. We have a safety stand-down later about it.”.

Thats where the CEO would call us all in and dress everybody down for getting mangled and delimbed by the poorly maintained equipment.

Well this seems out of place with all the other talk, but I used the lid from a 5 lb animal cracker tub to make the perfect half pound hamburger patties. Why didn’t I think of this sonner?

The wheel that runs along the track for the hoist (and therefore moves the rolls up and down the room) was so worn down that after picking the rolls up, it would get stuck midway through the room. I used to have to get someone to push the “backwards” button while I physically pushed the hoist along the track, with 5 tons of steel above me. The maintenance supervisor was like “that wheel is like two thousand bucks! Can’t we wrap tape around it til it touches?” I’m sorry, is $2000 a lot of money when the cylinder I’m holding in the air is worth $30,000 after I engrave it?

Nice.

We had a crane (shop crane) with a bad wheel get stuck, or actually derailed- with a 50 ton barge side section on it. Out of round was bad enough, but when the inertia of the piece was so great that it pulled it off of the rail and cocked the whole crane sideways, it almost brought the whole thing down.

That cleared the floor in a hurry!

worst bit is you will have to assemble it. I just helped my neighbor put together a rack that also has a smith machine and cables with 100kg of slotted weights on each side. We get the thing mostly together and then he tells me its not exactly where he wants it and can I move it !! He has only just had a shoulder reconstruction like 6 weeks ago so he wasn’t a great deal of help.
