There are way WAY more people screwing up 5/3/1 than succeeding with it.
Which is mind boggling.

IMO, it’s not about the program. It’s the person doing the program. If someone can overthink something simple like 531, the chances of him/her/they/it succeeding aren’t very good. I personally look at 531 as a basic progression model for a couple of basic lifts that is easily adaptable.
I see… I’m glad I’m not screwing it up… or at least I’d like to believe I’m not
I resemble that remark😏
I like being hungry so much sometimes. Makes food so much better tasting.
I did a ton of fasted cardio this morning then killed two round steaks splashed with malt vinegar. So damn good.
I think the best thing you can do is set up a log and have the experienced lifters here follow and chime in regarding your progress. It’s like IRL where people used to go to the gym and train with the big guys.
Yezzir, I do have one. And yeah, it’s been really helpful
THIS!!!

Of course its considered bad manors for say a experienced 500lbs bencher to give advice in the gym to a beginner anymore. Use to be a guy was happy that the experience guys would even take notice and give advice.
I would say the more “Fit” look is more in vogue. That or guys are too worried about being below 10% BF when they haven’t even got solid meat on their frame.
I think they get triggered by this. It somehow hurts their feelings knowing they aren’t special with their 225lb benches.
agree…

If I could bench 225, I’d like to believe that would be special
hes meaning your average size male…

I honestly wonder where the disconnect is on it. It doesn’t seem like the hardest program.
“Do these exact movements for these exact sets and reps”
“So after I do that, I also add 40 reps of power cleans, right?”
“No: only the sets and reps of the exercises I listed”
“So like, do all of that 3 times?”
“No, only the one time, that’s it”
“I do all of this on top of 5 days of BJJ a week, right?”
“For Christ’s sake no”
“I’m confused”
I feel like there’s a philosophy dissertation crying out to be written, on the “failures” of 5/3/1 as an insight into the human condition, circa fitness industry, interwebz era.
If only it was limited to 5/3/1. I asked someone to write a 1 paragraph summary of an article covering why it is interesting/important for our company.
Five days later, I get a 3 page document that was essentially a re-write (the article was 4 pages) with nothing about how it pertains to us.
Stuff like that happens all the time. I have no idea how humans get anything done.
Peoples’ total inability to read makes me wonder how we don’t observe FAR more prescription drug overdoses.
As a misanthrope, this dissertation would end up more like a limerick.
I would like to read this limerick
5/3/1 is just lifting some weight
But people act like it changes their fate
stupid question they asked
my patience has passed
it’s no wonder I feel so much hate
I am in tears.
