The Flame-Free Confession Thread II

I don’t think cats are dangerous…

We don’t eat cats- bad luck. Dogs are a delicacy up north though. There’s a famous festival in Yulin

Swamp eels, crayfish, hairy crab and asian carp are apparently high risk invasive species
Sea cucumbers and blowfish are technically deadly
My favourite is Century Egg- egg marinated in calking lime- basically a rotten egg with a hearty dose of heavy metals

Luckily my Australian accent is on point, so I have nothing to fear from drop bears.

I normally HATE summer camp style “bonding” activities but I confess I’m really enjoying orientation.
Thank you Columbia and Brown for rejecting me

When we were in Australia, we went into our hotel room to be greeted by an enormous spider. In our mind this thing can probably jump and will kill on contact.

So we call staff to help us. The guy looks at it “Oh, that’s just a shedded skin and it’s only a huntsman” and he brushes it away and leaves.

Now this fucker was nearly the span of my hand - two things run through my head: How big is it now? And what does “only a huntsman” mean? What the hell do the dangerous spiders look like?

So I hardly get any rest because I can feel things crawling over me all night and then I have to put up with smart ass staff asking me if I’ve “seen any spiders today” for the next 3 days lol

Turns out huntsman are actually a big spider but not aggressive or poisonous.

Having had one crawl out of my sleeping bag, the knowledge they are mostly harmless did not comfort me

Ummmm… it’s venomous, not poisonous. If something bites you and you die it’s venomous. If you bite it and you die it’s poisonous.

PNG

Pretty sure they just lied to you to make you feel better. :smirk:

My son and I have this talk quite frequently.

If I found the spider crawling on me then my plan was to eat it :stuck_out_tongue:

I think spiders are venomous by definition? But a huntsman cannot kill you unlike lots of other spiders in Australia.

Also, there are spiders that like to live under toilet seats there. They can kill you… Fuck that, does death also have to come with a bite on the goolies?

Also, who the hell knows what is true and isn’t down there? lol

Totally true. Also don’t forget that snakes sometimes get in the pipes and we have some venomous AF bastards out here.
