Don’t move my favorite thread, although I’m “watching” so who cares.
Confession: the trainer at my gym was doing some pretty good speed front squats with his working weight. But when I did my “over warm up” for a single” of FS, just a little heavier, he did like 5. Then when I did a set of 18 he busted out about 10 or so lol. Just me or programming?
There’s also certain individuals in the TRT forum, where someone shows up and is like “I feel like crap” and they’ll hop in like “doctors don’t know SHIT you need to go private and go on TRT” without even asking what the person weighs or what their lifestyle is like. Permanent hormone replacement should be an absolute last resort. For a TON of individuals who are on TRT, they’ve fucked themselves for life without even trying to address the root of some of their problems.
My membership to the semi- private/personal training gym expired so I got a 1 month pass to a nearby globo gym. I confess I like it better. I’m too short to use most of the machines and the squat rack is barely low enough, but the atmosphere is SOOOO much better.
The people at my former gym were quite cliquey and distant. The people at the globo gym are super amazing and friendly. It’s also pretty entertaining watching dumb trainers peddle BS
I rarely get jealous of the random people at the gym, but the other day some kid comes in. Probably about 5 foot 7, 165 pounds or so, but very lean and muscular. Athletic looking, not necessarily strong looking.
The jealous part came in after he casually banged out a set of trap deads at 170kg as a warmup, and then put 160kg straight onto the bar he was about to squat. No warmup. I thought “shit, I better be ready to provide first aid, he might be about to staple himself to the floor”. And then he banged out a set of 7 like it was nothing. And then he did it again. And then he did it again.
I simultaneously hate this kid, and have developed some sort of platonic man-crush.
It’s one thing to taking up some random bits of lifting advise.
But yeah on that I would prefer a medical degree behind that person giving out that type of advice who specialise in it. Call me bias
I am feeling you. It seems that as more information becomes available through the internet, the levels of people’s stupidity increases exponentially. Back in the 80’s and 90’s we had to wait a month for the next BB magazine to come out, talk to someone in the gym or work this stuff out for ourselves and it was never this hard !!
I’ve been trying to call this out when I spot it (and when I have the energy), and encourage others to do the same.
Painting all docs as crap is like painting all personal trainers as crap. For sure it’s fun and easy to point out the knuckleheads (of which there are, admittedly, many), but… Thib is a personal trainer, Ben Bruno is a personal trainer, Nick Tumminello is a personal trainer, etc.
I sometimes get the impression when new lifter post in the beginner section are under a false impression . Imo I think some of them assume they are only talking to other beginner.
