The Flame-Free Confession Thread II

If I’m in the car I’ll bring my own - I sleep so much better. I haven’t yet worked up the nerve to carry it onto an airplane, though!

Vacuum bag it up and then unleash it mid-flight.

a good memory foam travel pillow does the trick. I find it best to wear it sideways, it gives a nice neck support platform

Still sound fun

On the final day, I like to watch the top competitors go head to head. CrossFit really emphasized that this year. If the points are close enough to come down to the last event, then I don’t really care about the other 37-38 competitors. The point spreads can be so great that some of the places are locked in so the underdogs can’t even make waves.

I don’t know if you watched it all, but those final three events were brutal (but fun to watch). The girl who won the first Ringer was dead last in the second (in her heat). Some of those movements revealed some weaknesses in the competitors.

On top of that, for both men and women, nearly everyone in the second heat smoked the first heat. The second heat was places 1-5 and the first heat was 6-10. I imagine that if the entire field (the old field of 40) was still competing that half of the competitors wouldn’t have beat the time cap on those events. It would have been ugly to watch.

I’m sure they will do some fine tuning next year. It was tough seeing guys like Vellner, Fikowski, and Seager failing to make it to day 4.

I checked the stats of the top 10 and it proves that us tall people suck at this type of sport. Two guys were 5’9" and everyone else was between 5’6" and 5’8".

Oh yeah, I almost forgot the point system part. I’m pretty sure they’ve always had the same scaling for every event in the past. By cutting it to fewer competitors, it increased the point spread between each place. Matt Fraser went from being down 15 to up 25 on one event! That wouldn’t have happened with the old scoring. I didn’t look close enough to see if the new scoring also contributed to the gap in the first place. It was definitely fun to watch, though.

Talk about talking out your ass… came across a post where this certain guy just needs to stay in his lane. Person in question was talking more or less how Powerlifting training is shit for building muscle. ( not even sure if the person in question is even carrying any mass in the first place.) Backing their argument on the notion that anyone training in this style is only using rep ranges in 1- 3 and or 5x5 range. Totally glossing over the amount of hypertrophy work ALLOT of guys will do in the off season. Be it on the Big 3 or assistance or supplemental work. Instead lets just focus in on Meet prep phase to prop up a straw man argument.

From a spectators perspective, I dislike it but obviously cant dispute who wins it. I couldnt have seen anyone come close to matt or tia this year and unless there is some radical change I couldnt imagine anything would change next either

You and @MarkKO are probably going to a very sexual place with this, and despite that giving new meaning to the term deep throat, Duke Nukem rips off a guy’s head and shits down his neck in the game. And it was a great game.

Damn bro that white cheddar Mac n cheese is where it’s at.

Sometimes when I bench, I work up to a set of 1-3 because I just get the urge to. Then I do a set of max reps that usually ends up in the 10-15 range. This happens when I’m pyramiding up weights and feeling reaally strong on that day, Any old school guy will get what I’m saying. Then I end up doing kickbacks for triceps later because of the prior strain on my elbows.

Today I did pause squats for 6 sets of 5 with a very slow descent focusing on 1) really loading and creating tension in my quads and hips and 2) maximal acceleration on the positive because I didn’t want to go heavy due to a hip flexor strain. I don’t even know if it was actually 6 sets. It could have been 7 or 8. I just worked up in 20lb increments and stayed at a weight for 2-3 sets until I felt I was done. After that, I did FST 7 sets for leg extensions and leg curls.

What’s the deal with people having a stick up their asses about rep ranges? Oh no, I ended up doing a set of 2! I can’t lower the weight on the next set and do higher reps? What’s gonna happen if I do 6x3 for the first exercise and higher reps on the next exercises? My body is going to suddenly tell my muscles, “He’s training for strength now! Do NOT grow! Guys, I repeat, DO NOT GROW!” I don’t get this. What is this nonsense? Why is there so much rigidity in people’s thought processes? Who said you can’t grow doing multiple sets of 3? Why even do programs if they’re going to fuck you up? People got big doing 3 sets of 10 for 3-4 exercises. Lots of them. What? You think you’re special? You’re not special. Anna Kendrick is special because she’s an adorable little angel. So fuck you. What the fuck am I talking about? I don’t fucking know any more. The more I read all the mental masturbation going on now, the more I don’t know what to think.

Rant over lol.

I’m kinda switching sides on the Anna Kendrick thing. I used to think she was a rat faced gremlin, but I’m kinda coming around to her being ok.

See, I used to think she was okay, then I found out people worship her, and now I’m coming around to her being a rat faced gremlin.

I think Anna Kendrick is about as average as it’s possible to be. I mean, average on an impressive level. Like beige.
