The Flame-Free Confession Thread II

Confession: I had an embarrassingly large amount of old school Stove Top stuffing with dinner the other day and had to talk myself out of a leftover-stuffing and egg scramble this morning.

This reminds me of the search for the ever elusive “hypertrophy program”

Trainee comes online and says “I want to train for PURE hypertrophy. I don’t care about strength. All the programs I see are strength programs: where are the hypertrophy programs?”

And recommendations comes out. Building the Monolith? Nope: strength program. Deep Water? Strength program. BBB? Strength program. DoggCrapp? Strength program.

And you peel back the onion and discover that “strength program” means “has squats and/or deadlifts in it”

Where is my program with nothing but isolation exercises on machines!? You know: a HYPERTROPHY program.

Follow up confession, in the past 10 years, I have literally only performed squats, front squats and dead lifts for like 95% of all legwork. My lower body assistance work is basically sitting on the sofa. I also squat ass to grass. I really do not care what anyone on a soap box has to say about leg work and unless I lose a leg in an accident you will never see me do unilateral leg work with any form of consistency.

Just hearing someone say hypertrophy out loud is enough to trigger me.

Remember when we used to call it “getting bigger”?

Yes, and progressive overload was just “lifting more” right?

Oh well, we can get all nostalgic about it, or we could use an algorithm to find out what 80% of our 1RM is once we identify which nuerotype we are and then dunk ourselves into a water displacement tank to find our BF% to the decimal, but not before we use v-look ups to predict what weight to use in 5 weeks on the 3rd set right after we weigh every granule of supplements to plug into myfitness pal while leaving enough macros for a poptart. After we post that on instagram with a motivational sentence from a dead philosopher who was clearly intending its meaning to justify our narcissism, then, and only then, we can actually go to the gym.

Just tell them squatting is a method self-flagellation. They’ll be doing 10×10 squats after this.

Probably only once though.

I just find it amusing when guys get all passive aggressive towards you… They kind of forget your Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet and can dust their ass off this forum.

Same guys who posts about not being able to find jeans to fit their massive quads but ignore the advice of ‘shop in the men’s section’ i guess.

To many beginners read too much and hear about different training blocks …I think.
Not understanding at their stage it really doesnt apply to them nor necessary at their stage.

Again I think these guys see more advanced guys doing this and assume that is how those guys got their size in the first place.

Yep, my oldest has that issue and I will post pics to back that claim if asked…unlike others.

Mike Isreatel is full of shit. And his programs are rubbish. Don’t believe me? Go buy one. I bought 2 just to see what “science” can come up with.

IDK He’s got a lot of pictures of babes lifting on his site. Seems Scientifically legit to me.

I watched an elitefts video of him several years ago talking about activating the “lower fibers of the biceps”(no, he was not talking about the brachialis) with a preacher curl and thought “no one is going to buy this crap”. How wrong I was.

I’m a Mike fanboy. I haven’t used any of his RP stuff but based the majority of my programming on suggestions he’s made during podcasts. Seems to be working well so far and he explains his reasoning fairly well.

I really don’t understand why anyone would become a fanboy of anyone telling people stuff about lifting things up and putting them down that borderline idiots have been figuring out on their own through trial and error throughout history.

I mean, if you’re talking about taking some good ideas from one out of many sources and applying them, that’s great. If not, it really doesn’t make sense to me.

Then you must hate Jim Wendler. He has essentially sold the same damn thing over and over. Whether it is training for a sport, bodybuilding, fat loss, or going to the fucking moon 5/3/1 is recommended. Yet, I have honestly never seen a before and after. RPstrength has hundreds if not thousands of client pictures available.
