The Fishing Thread

Of course…no biggie.

You guys want to fish and get a work out? Sturgeon. A dozen fish in the 5’-6’ range will test anyones endurance. They are quickly becoming my favourite fish by replacing steelhead.

I hear ya. I broke out the 10wt for the first time all year last night. Got stumped.

Also lost one of my favorite streamers (deep snag). I sat for 2 hours waiting for the tide to go down enough that I could wade out to get it, but it was pitch dark by that time…

Revenge (and striped bass dinner) will be mine!

Made it out for sturgeon with my dad yesterday. Managed 4 over 5’ with a few shakers thrown in to keep us occupied.

Maybe I’ll figure out how to post a pic…

You guys out in B.C. are spoiled when it comes to big fish.I’m jealous…those King salmon are fucking huge.I know someone who has fished for sturgeon and by the end they just wanted it to be over lol…he wanted to shoot the fucker for being so tough and almost giving him a coronary.
I still can’t wrap my head around the idea that a fish can live to be over a hundred years old.

Caught a keeper Largemouth Bass last Saturday (In Colo. have to be fifteen inches to legally keep). It went about 2 and a half pounds.

D

Anyone on here live in the northwest, I live in the seattle and like to go steelheading and salmon fishing in the rivers.

The skykomish, snoqualamie, the beaver ponds out by retier and the skagit.

Hey, I think I got it. Thats my dad with a 5’6" fish from the other day.

Ya, its pretty sweet. I used to guide a bit as well, 30 to 50 days per year. The best days were when you had the big macho dudes begging for the trip to be over so they wouldnt have to bring in another sturgeon.

Biggest chinook that I have ever seen was 62lbs but the biggest to the boat was a trip with a husband and wife team from Ont a couple years back that they released and I estimate it was about 55lbs. Not in the truly enormous scale like a 70+ but still a hell of a fish.

Shit, I need to move to Canada.

I just broke a rough three week long dry spell with this guy today, and I also had what I believe to be a big pickerel snap my line.

Hmmm, not sure the pic loaded.

Monster fish killed after terrorising Swiss swimmers

Police divers have ended the reign of terror of a huge fish that was attacking swimmers in a Swiss lake.

The zander, which was 70 centimetres (two feet three inches) long and weighed eight kilos (17.5 pounds), was harpooned on Sunday after it bit six swimmers over the weekend, fish warden Fabio Croci told local media.

Two swimmers were treated in hospital for bite wounds up to 10 centimetres (four inches) long after being attacked on Lac Majeur, which borders Italy, he added.

Police divers at first tried to capture the carnivorous fish with a net, but when this failed they pursued the zander with a harpoon and managed to kill it.

The meat from the captured fish was served up to tourists at the lake.

“It is quite unusual for zanders to bite humans”, Croci said, adding he suspected the fish was suffering from a hormonal imbalance which could be responsible for its aggression.

Schoolgirl angler nets record catch that’s twice her size and weighs 14stone

[i]In the river was a monster, a near 9ft catfish that hit the scales at a record 13st 8lb (193lb).

But despite its size and whiskery age, the fish was no match for the skills of 11-year-old Jessica who waged a 20-minute battle to land her prize.

Looks tasty

Went to the beach today. The beaches in Maine are mostly rocky shores with small sand pockets. Lots of tidal pools in the rocks when the tide goes down (about 4-5 feet or so).

Caught this baby sculpin (sea raven) bare handed in the tidal pool  The kids love it. The get all kinds of little critters --crabs, snails, shrimp, starfish, etc. Today I got a the fish which is rare, and another guy got a baby lobster today.

This is one of the tidal pools (the one where I caught the fish). This is all under water at high tide. The sand beach is to the right.

I fly fish for stripers, mackerel, etc. across the water on the point in the background. You can see the line between the darker and lighter rocks. That’s the tide line.

I caught this little guy(2 pounds) saturday morning at a gravel pit near my house.Thats the average size but we have caught quite a few around 3.5 to 4…bass grow slow here and its a small pit.

I say it’s a largemouth and my neighbor thinks it’s a smallmouth.Help me out here…who’s right.

There’s this bird that dive bombs after small fish all day long and have no idea what kind of bird it is but it sure is cool to watch. When it does catch one it takes it to the same branch above the beaver dam(yep we got two beavers)and beats the shit out it for ten minutes and then eats it.The one in the picture I will send caught a big one in it’s beak, flew way up and flipped it in the air and caught it lenght wise and swallowed it down.

Here’s this diving bird

I caught it just as it hit the water. To bad I don’t have a camera with a telephoto lense.

“Distinguishing small mouth bass and large mouth bass
To tell small mouth and large mouth bass apart, look at the closed mouth. If it extends back beyond the back of the eye, the fish is a largemouth. If it goes only to the middle of the eye, it’s a smallmouth.”

Looks like a largemouth to me. Also the distinct black line that runs from head to tail as yours appears to.
