I started working for pontiac as a mechanic in 2000. I work 1 kilomtre from the Oshawa General Motors Plant, The biggest auto assembly plant in the world.
I’l give you my two cents… before you tell me GM offers a sub par product, or we should kill off the weak because its the american way etc etc. how many american cars are allowed for sale in korea?..?
how about in japan?..? the answer is less then 5000 cars total. thats not alot of cars at all if you think about how many people live in both countries… but on the other side of the table for instance. This year Toyota Motor Co is planning to sell 5000-6000 LEXUS IS-F’s in America, these are premium luxury cars, high performance garnishing price tags of 60’000 US dollars BASE PRICE.
what kills me is theyre only expecting to sell 500 in theyre home country of japan this year. think about this for a second and you may come up with several distinct differences.
for one if they can sell somthing in a number of 5000 that they forcast they can only sell 500 of in theyre own domestic hoe country, does that not mean we have a bigger market then they do?
yes, and are they focusing on infiltrating our market as the number 1 producer of automobiles or are they concentrating on success in selling cars in theyre own domestic market? the answer is yes, they know we buy the most cars in the world, they know they can import as many as humanly possible and they have free open market to sell at will.
in a free country this sounds like good business no? well ask yourself this. if were the free market of the world and everyone can sell theyre products here than what bad can come of it?? well for starters america is taking a shit kicking these days because were fair everything and free trade everything with everybody, why not the government says!??
they make tax off everything coming into the country. well my last spin of the table folks, why dont they sell american cars in japan or korea? are they afraid of our inferior product? No, are they afraid it will start a trend?
No are they afraid americans will be able to work for cheaper labour and under price everything they offer? NO! they dont allow american cars, fans or electronics into the country because THEYRE NATIONS know good business is exporting more than you import. its called Gross Domestic Product and right now asia is kicking our ass at that game.
so what is different between america and asia right now? well theyre nations protect theyre markets by limiting imports…check, and theyre companies within those nations use as much national resources as possible to ensure profit for both the companies and the nation as possible.
america sjouldnt bail out the big 3 with money, its not gonna help us when we have a failing tactic as a nation and company. what america should do is, start thinking about business as others do. build here, sell here. but more importantly use free trade to sell THERE, get our products out in the market.
get us building, selling and buying american. this is the road map that made us great and is now making other nations great. we need a history lesson right now, build within, cut off the competition.
if you dont agree with this rebember this…wasnt too long ago korea and japan were primitive in manufacturing, and no one in theyre countries could afford to buy anything so they did the only thing a economy in dis repair could do…
they closed the door to imported products they could make themselves, they started manufacturing any and every product they could export and they grew slowly…long term, overtime. we are not helping ourselves by importing and being GLOBAL (in the sense of importing globally to compete with our own in our own markets)
I see brake rotors made in mexico, oil filters made in hungary, radiators made in pakistan and tires made in korea EVERYDAY I WORK IN A PONTIAC GARAGE. america dosent need to help GM, it needs to help it’s self.
as long as theyres a cheap alternative, people are gonna shop at walmart, people are gonna buy MADE IN CHINA PRODUCTS, and jobs are gonna keep leaving america steadily, lets learn from them and theyre business practices as nations and shut down the imports we already make our selves. somebodies job and our economy is counting on it
