^^^ You think so? I don’t know if that’s in Nolan’s agenda, or even if Nolan has an agenda other than to tell a good story and keep the audience on their toes and entertained.

Except for the small guy in the gimp mask playing Bane, they will fuck it up because no one can do Bane correctly he’s the anti-batman. Nolan will make him a roided up douche, not batman’s equal/superior, this is how they will fuck it up. This movie will be one anti drug commentary I’m willing to bet money on this. [/quote]
What are you basing this on? You’ve seen nothing of the movie haven’t read the script so you know it’s gonna suck because why? I remember when everyone collectively shit the bed when they found out Ledger was playing the Joker, not only did he fucking own that role he won an Academy Award for it.
I am not jumping up and saying that the movie is gonna be the best thing since getting head on the highway but I am gonna be optimistic that in the capable hands of Nolan it will be a more than decent movie. So how bout you relax a bit there Kev.

Rule of 3 has not been wrong yet, as far as Ledger goes I actually was one of the few that said cut him some slack. Comic book movies are funny things I’ve been reading comics since 1985 I had an extensive silver age collection(back then back issues weren’t priced stupidly). Trust me through no fault of their own except their ignorance they will fuck Bane up badly. I hope I’m wrong I’ll still go see the film(I’m not going to boycott it like I am x-men first class) but it will suck.
Also this new format sucks I keep hitting report instead of quote.
We’ve already covered the “Bane will be a steroid dependant lug” debate on page 13.
I don’t think he’d include Bane if he didn’t already have some kind of fresh take on the character. I’m confident that Nolan will not play up the steroid angle. He is too smart to allow people to exploit it and it would cheapen what he did with the first two movies. That would make no sense at all.
It should be clear by now that if Nolan makes changes to a character, he’ll make sure he knows not to lose their essence. Look at how he re-worked Ra’s Al Ghul’s immortality in Batman Begins…
If venom figures at all it’ll be in a far more sophisticated way than having Bane shooting up in an alley. That just isn’t Nolan’s style. My guess is that it’ll be a variant on Scarecrow’s fear gas except it removes fear from the user instead of heightening it - or something along those lines.
I’ve got several reasons for thinking that (including the look of the mask and the absence of the venom delivery system from the comics), but it could be just as easily be something else (other than steroids, that is) There’s more than one way to skin a bat.

I agree I think the mask is either A) a hannibel lector esque mask because he was/is a innmate at Arkham Prison or B) Like you said its a gas but instead its like a overall stimulant, it just makes me stronger/smarter/faster not necessarily “bigger”
Oh yeah, and I’ve just noticed that there are visual clues in the official pics. The pic of Tom Hardy in the Bane mask has a cat’s eye on the left; the second pic of just his torso is more interesting because there seems to be some sort of smoke/ vapor swirling around him.

Nice one, but I would have gone with “More than one way to break a bat.”
Just to add that extra dose of comic geekiness.

Yeah, I don’t think he’ll grow either. I just stumbled across a huge close-up of the Bane “mask” and I’m going to put my neck on the line and say it isn’t a mask at all, but an inhaler - there are a network of pipes on the front.

And broken he shall be (hopefully)…
Bane was an inmate at Pena Duro Prison in Santa Prisca, not at Arkham.
A much more believable method for auto delivery of the Venom drug would be to simply fill it in an insulin pump worn somewhere on the body. Venom could simply be an IV form of some substance similar in composition to halotestin and methamphetamine.
I seriously hope there is no hokey gas mask inhaler used to administer Venom. I guess technically an inhalant form would be the fastest way to saturate the bloodstream with the substance other than having the cranial ports drilled into his skull as in the comic. Still it would seem a tremendous tactical liability that Bane, a calculating tactical mastermind, would avoid.
Even before being subjected to the Venom project while incarcerated at Pena Duro Bane possessed the physical prowess of an Olympic athlete.
Ultimately it will be determined by Nolan’s portrayal of the character, and I have no doubt that it will be seamless and believable in its execution.
Going back to the aforementioned “page 13” for perusal, some of you have a drastically oversimplified idea of the composition of the Bane character.
As said before, he is the antithesis of Batman.
He’s not big and strong because of Venom, and in story arcs beyond the first one he never used it again, save in dire situations, as he detested the loss of control that came with it. He was more than physically capable of holding his own against Batman without it, and has done so on several occasions.
Bane held his own playing chess against Ra’s al Ghul, having only read about it while in prison, and having never seen a board before.
Batman is a brilliant tactician and planner. He survives largely because he has prepared in ways large and small for virtually every outcome in a given situation. Bane is his equal in this.
I think that the collective worries of being persecuted for your size and strength because Bane will be portrayed as a muscle bound, 'roid-jacked meat head are unfounded. Nolan does not equal Schumaker. He will not be trying to sell this with volume and star power. Bane was never a puny weakling as he was portrayed in the Schumaker movie or in the Arkham Asylum game. Hell, if anything Venom was above and beyond not a steroid, and more like a short life super soldier serum. Which makes more sense anyway. Why augment soldiers to be super powerful and durable all the time, when you can augment them in the field and they return to being normal, and easily controlled, men upon returning home. Virtually eliminates the danger of a super soldier mutiny.
First pic of Bane for those who haven’t seen it

mmm weird mask i hope this is pre-venom bane.
I bet venom is really I3-G
lol
If I was doing this, I would advance the idea of Bruce getting smaller and even physically weaker over time as he relies more and more on his own tech than his own strength.
In the second movie, he was already down in weight all to be more stream lined in the suit. Meeting someone who can match him in intelligence but instead of relying on tech relies more on his own physicality could be where most of the conflict lies between them.
I really doubt this will suck. It isn’t like he’s putting nipples on the bat-suit.

I dont know much of the characters in the batman comics, but from what i’ve read from this site and other sources like wiki, bane is depicted as someone who’s increadibly intelligent and physically strong and able to an extent right? He doesnt have super strenght prior to Venom, but i’d imagine from what i’ve read so far that he’d be strong-ish and jacked-ish.
So what the fuck happened in Batman & Robin (1997)?
Prior Venom : http://images.wikia.com/dcmovies/images/9/97/AntonioDiego1.jpg

If i recall correctly, he was portrayed as a low life skinny con. Sure venom made him big and all, but he got even dumber. Couldnt even speak and was basically poison ivy’s lap dog who goes and does whatever she asks.
I hope (i know) Nolan would do a way better job with the character. Credits to the late Heath Ledger, the joker scared the shit out of me. I wouldnt want to meet him in a dark alley way, or even in church. The character was brilliantly done.

Doubtful, as he was subjected to the Venom project forcefully while still incarcerated at Pena Duro, prior to his escape.
