Greek democracy isn’t at all the root of western democracy. For one greek democracy is based on the notion only the elite should vote. modern democracy is an outgrowth of protestant enlightenment individualism.

You might want to research the founding fathers as well as the beginnings of this nation. Women and slaves couldn’t vote. There was even talk that only property owners could vote.
Yes but the democracy of the white nationalist slave owning founding fathers, who only allowed free white men of good character, who owned property to vote, isn’t the same thing as modern democracy is it. One is not the other. Locke for example didn’t think the poor should vote or women, or those with no stake in society. He also believed in colonizing anyone whoi opposed his notions of democracy.

You brought up the Enlightenment and modern democracy yet the Enlightenment preceded the founding of the US.
The founders were white nationalists, slave owners and against modern notions of democracy. Im talking about modernnnotions of rights, that isn’t what the founders ever intended.

They had the foresight to write the constitution and bill of rights as a living documents.
Why would they do that if they didn’t want it to change with each generation?

For liberalism to exist capitalism must. Ancient greece was a feudal mode of production based society. Liberalism was literally invented in the 18th century lol
If they wanted blacks to not be slaves but to vote as equals, and for the poor and women to have a say why did they design a system that excluded all those groups? This is being willfully blind to what they actually clearly wanted.
Even Lincoln far after the founding fathers, said this about blacks and he was the most progressive voice in the country:

You seem to be arguing from emotion and seem to really care. How is it disingenuous? The most racially progressive radical politician almost a century after the founding fathers revolution, didn’t think blacks were or ever could be equal to whites.
Why pretend the founders ever wanted blacks to be free or to be equals? They didn’t theyd of been horrified at the thought. Why must Americans persist with the myth they secretly wanted that despite all evidence to the contrary. Jefferson refused to free his slaves upon his death lol.
