Oui. Mon père est Cajun. Went my first 3 years of school in Belgium, lived in Vermilion Parish, La after that. Pretty much what I speck with the brothers and any other Cajuns I know. We usually speak German with my mother, though.

When were you in Belgium?

I spent a while in Germany when my father was stationed there. I remember a lot of semi drunken conversations in a mish mash of English, German and French. That’s probably one of the better ways to pick up a language. If you have a couple of drinks in you, it lowers your inhibitions and you don’t worry as much about how you sound. Everyone is just having fun.

Sadly, I don’t remember much anymore of even my school French or German.

Between Brussels and Ostend, Belgium, 58-64. Erlangen and Heilbronn, FRG, 64-65, back to Brussels 66-67, brief state side stay and then Munich, Ge, 69-70. In the military, Ramstein-Miesenbach, 87-90. I took Spanish and Latin in school. The brothers and I just speak French out of habit plus we like to speak German so the kids grew up speaking them plus their mothers languages. We do have some epic family arguments.

Tornadoes all through the area last night but luckily just some property damage and no injuries. Couldn’t shake the black dog this morning. Forced myself to get to the pool. Started swimming an didn’t quit for an hour (earlybird open swim hours). No idea how far or how fast. Did breakfast at that temple of haute cuisine, Waffle House, with all the brothers and bunches of nephews and several nieces. Felt better. Visit Mutter, let her force me to eat some Streusel, felt good. Came home and actually napped. Got up, cooked myself a nice rib eye smothered in onions and mushrooms and fresh green beans with bacon and sautéed in garlic and butter dinner. Skyped with my wife and a couple dozen relatives in the Philippines and felt even better. To my surprise, both sons managed to get through on skype as well. Now I feel great. Just poured about 3 fingers fingers of Jameson’s, lit a Gran Habano Corojo Vintage 2002, and sat down to check T Nation. In a few minutes I’ll kick back and enjoy me the Monkey King 3 I downloaded. 63 birthday didn’t turn out too bad after all.

Harry, Nick Weite is a childhood buddy with our gym owner. He trains with us when he’s back in Iowa.

It’s good to see some of the people that excel at the things we like to do. Even better if they turn out to be normal people.

Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes. Really appreciate them. Were times I truly believed I’d never make it this long.
So, to summarize, Lifted, threw the shot, and taught class. Spent all day yesterday at the hospital. My next door neighbor is an 80 years old, single (“I was married for 5 years 50 years ago an swore off it after that”.) He needed an operation and with no other kin around I took him. Between in-processing, getting prepped, the operation, recovery, discharge, a 1 hour operation turns into a 8 hour ordeal. No problem. I roamed the hospital halls seeking out sister in laws (2 work there), admiring young nurses in tight scrubs, and generally socializing.
When throwing the shot I went full form and realized I need to do some stretching. My form feels tight, no extension over the left leg, no good pivot. I always stretch at martial practice but I need some more event specific throwing. Specifically the lower back.

Yesterday, discus throw. Forced myself to go half speed and threw the damn thing farther. Been trying to rush it and my delivery was off. Going to try to gradually increase the speed, really concentrate on form, and praying to the discus gods.discus%20gods%202

Yeah, I could start using the trap bar for legs but I figure with my first meet coming up May 5 and one pretty much every week after that there’s not a lot I can do to increase my leg strength. I’m headed back to the PI in Oct 2018 so after my last meet in July I’m going over to a pure BB and swimming routine.
