As of now (literally now, not first thing in the morning before I’ve eaten) I’m 145.
I don’t know how the hell I gained ten pounds in a month. Some of it, judging by pictures, is probably muscle, (see T-Vixen; I’m not entirely a blob of goo) so I’m not going to tear my hair out too much – I just have to not get any bigger in the next two weeks.
Your in good shape you shouldn’t be worring about cutting weight in your first meet anyways. It’s all water I would drop 40lbs in one day to compeat 242 then be back up near 300 day of meet. Keep your protien and fat
high and watch your carbs. If you get close
to the meet and your weight is close I’ll tell you about some easy water tips. That you could shave 8-10 in a matters of hours
I almost had the same thing happen to me with a singlet. I called a friend whose husband used to be a wrestler. He loaned me a singlet, which I didn’t in the end need.
bench: 10@45, 5@85, 5@95, 5@105, 3@115, fail/fail@125
guy wants to work in with me – first time this has ever happened – and proceeds to go half-way down at 115, for one set, and doesn’t come back. I am a nice girl and didn’t mention it to him.
curls: 3x10@30’s. Actually these were barely curls; was heaving everything except my puny biceps.

Congratulations on the squat PRs! I’m very excited to see how your first meet goes.
and you look fab, my dear. “uh…yeah…weigh more but 2 sizes smaller…” this is a good thing. i haven’t seen 145 since oct, damnit. and no, you aren’t a pile of goo or whatever the hell you said.
good work on those PR’s Alisa - I’ll exchange my 125lbs bench for your 185lbs squat anyday. Oh and you should have told that guy: “the workout isn’t finished dear - we were just starting! muahahah (insert evil laugh)”.

A few states in the USAPL compete using Pounds, but you probably need to start thinking about your weights in Kilos for the meet:

very good point !!!
also make sure you go the the rules meeting before the meet. I would hate that you missed a lift because you racked the weight or squatting the weight with out waiting for the command.
It is very helpful if you can find someone to go to the gym with you before the meet and go through each of your lifts giving you the commands. So many first-timers get right-lighted because they don’t wait for the commands. At my first meet, my coach stood next to the platform yelling “wait for the commands.” I was able to tune out all but his voice. It was so helpful.
All the meets I have been at have a kilo conversion chart you can check. But, once again, that’s just another detail a handler helps with. At a minimum, draft out your opening numbers for all lifts since you have to submit them before the meet starts.
seated DB overhead press: 10@25’s, 5@30’s, 5@35’s, 1@40’s (PR! so shaky)
overhead squats: 3x5@45, 5@55, 5@65, 4/2@75.
I was stupid and used the conference I was going to as an excuse for lots of carbs; now I feel shitty. Math + bagels feels good in the moment though. And tonight was good.
ello, just want to reiterate how important it is for someone to coach you throughout the meet. ‘coach you’ as in keeping track of the weight being lifted on the platform so you know when to start your dynamic warm-up (if you do one), and warm-up sets. It’s def key because you don’t want to think about anything else besides lifting. I remember my first Olympic lifting meet (I assume it’s similar to powerlifting) where my coach screwed up the warm-up time before my first snatch attempt. It was only 190 which is easy for me but when I lifted it on the first pull, it just felt so heavy and I missed it. Got it easy the next attempt.
