hope you aced those finals!
So, all done with exams – some good, some bad, but a relief to be through. And luckily my professors really seemed to like my thesis!
So, had a nice 6-mile run along the river, and I’m going to have an overpriced scotch with a friend tonight.
Sadly the exercise will be once more interrupted, as I’m going to Montreal on Wednesday with some girlfriends. There will be sightseeing. There will be hostel adventures. There will be poutine. Nimain, any suggestions would be appreciated!
Also, I’ll be home for the bulk of the summer, and the good news is I can get a pretty cheap gym membership. And my dad is going to want to go with me. He’s very gung-ho these days; he calls to tell me his PR’s. (If only I could get him to remember that it’s called a “barbell”, not a “crossbar.”)
Alisa, good job getting through exams. What a relief that is over!
Montreal is SUPER FUN and a great place to eat, drink and be merry! I think N. is traveling this week, but here are some of my favorites:
Best chicken EVER (seriously) and cheap too:
Rotisserie Romados
115 Rue Rachel E
Montreal
Best cheap middle eastern fast food ever (chicken shawarma pita sandwich – again, trust me)
Boustan
2020 Rue Crescent
Best bagels – takeout only, but so delicious.
Fairmount Bakery
74 Ave. Fairmount E.
Now I’m hungry…
Have a great time!
Hey Alisa, just catching up. Awesome DL!! Bench ain’t too bad either ![]()
How’s the muscle pull? You sprinted the next day, so I’m assuming youre better.
Congrats on getting done with finals. Yes, that is always such a relief.
Love that your dad calls it a crossbar. So cute!
Have fun in Montreal! I was there in 2007. Good times. Great food! It was August though and I was freezing my balls off. So, yeah, check the weather before you pack.
sorry Alisa, I just got back from Vancouver and saw your log- fuck darn it. might be too late, but for the curious:
top poutine:
Maamm Bolduc
streets to strutt down by looking fab:
St. Laurent
St. Catherine
St. Denis

Schwartz’s

-grab a bubble tean and walk through china town - st. laurent (south)
-spend an afternoon at jean-talon market or Atwater and grab something fresh for lunch.
-walk the old port and stop by a few art galleries

let me know if you were lookin for something different.
cheers and have fun!
N
Well, it was a lot of fun – I did wind up stopping at Schwartz’s and spent some time at the old port. As well as the usual flurry of museums, gardens, etc. Went up the Mont Royal, which was beautiful.
I am now gross, overfed and under-exercised, and planning to change that as radically as possible.
You have such a hot bod. A little va-cay won’t change that.
today just a quick back-in-the-gym thing:
bench 10@45, 5@85, 5@95, 3@105
squat 10@45, 5@95, 5@115, 5@135, 5@155
6 30-s sprints
stairs: 3 times up and down 13 flights in 15 minutes.
food:
breakfast: egg white omelet with veggies and cheese, apple
lunch: salad, 3 hardboiled eggs, chicken breast, broccoli, tuna salad, cheese
snack: fat-free, sugar-free frozen yogurt
dinner: meat sauce (ground beef and tomato sauce), asparagus, broccoli, 3 little mozzarella curds and sundried tomatoes
Glad to hear you had fun in Montreal - it’s a great city. Mont Royal is one of my favourite places, and Schwartz’s is the best smoke meat evar!
And I second what Snapper said!
Well, graduation’s over and I’m back home for a bit.
Today: 3 mile run. Breakfast was coffee, fruit + yogurt smoothie.
I’m in terrible shape – May was finals, thesis, traveling, then graduation, so exercise sort of fell by the wayside. I can feel that my aerobic endurance is shitty. Also need to lose weight.
I have to see whether a temporary gym membership is feasible; hopefully it is and I can get back on the ball. Meanwhile I’m going to try and build up more mileage and slim down. I can’t eat clean (it would hurt my mom’s feelings, since she’s a talented cook) but I’m going to try to eat modestly. Keep the quantity down, chew slowly, never snack, don’t take the last of anything – all that old-fashioned stuff.
old fashion = tried tested and true. use this as a break and come back kickin ass. Plus there are a number of bodyweight stuff you can do. Get some bands, DB, a medecin ball, what ever keeps you movin.
Congrats on the graduation!!
You plan sounds solid. Ease into things, get the eats in order - start ironing out the kinks. Before you know it you’re back to your old self again.

Yay! You’re an adult on paper too! ![]()
That last month of school sucked. All I did was work and homework and sleep. Plus my gym at work closed down.
I’m pretty sure you will build yourself back up fast. You like running so at least it should be slightly enjoyable, especially with the summer weather. Good luck!
So you know what you need to do. Go get it. Regarding hurting your mom’s feelings . . . I say get over that quick. Explain to her your goals and why you want to eat what you want to eat. Maybe you’ll convert her to a healthier lifestyle.
Congratulations! College down, grad school next up.
Your eating plan sounds solid given your parental issues. A gym for the summer would be nice, but you can do good things for your strength and physique with bodyweight exercises.
more food:
lunch chicken soup, tomato and corn salad, wee bit of pasta
dinner salmon, stir-fried broccoli and celery
I can get a three-month gym membership quite reasonably priced, but I’ll be out of town for three weeks in July, where I’ll probably just have to do the run & bodyweight thing.
Congrats on graduating!
Thanks everyone!
today I got my gym membership.
squats: 10@45, 5@95, 5@115, 5@135, 4@155
bench: 10@45, 5@65, 5@85, 5@95, 2@105
deadlift: 10@135, 5@155, 5@185, 2@205
lat pulldowns 3x5@90
1.5 mile run
Just a little day to get back in the swing of things.
(Incidentally, it’s 1.5 miles to the gym each way, and I was going to run there & back. Is it safe to do that in Chucks, do you think? I know from experience that you can’t do serious mileage in anything but real running shoes – I tried that once and ruined my ankles so I couldn’t stand on tiptoe for six months. When I was in high school a kid got kicked off the track team for wearing Chucks. But I don’t know if 3 miles a day counts as “serious” enough to do damage. Thoughts?)
If it were me I’d rather ride a bike or somethin…
OR
keep chucks in a locker at the gym? Even in boot camp they get to where regular running shoes.
