I’ve been on 100mg testosterone Cypoinate once a week for sometime. No major health issues except for social anxiety. Any crowded situation gets me very anxious inside.
I know for a fact that my anxiety has improved while being on testosterone. Every so often I will still have a day of increased anxiety and it usually goes with some kind of social event.
A couple of days ago, I had a check in with the dr and he asked me how my anxiety has been and when I told him better with some bumps along the way, he told me to come and take a thyroid test. Here’s the result. And he hasn’t called me back. Is this normal? I didn’t know if I should fast, so I did.
Did he even order the right thyroid test??? What would he interpret from this test as it relates to a asking me about anxiety?
A low TSH typically indicates good thyroid function, normally when TSH is elevated thyroid hormones are low and actually those with hyperthyroidism will find TSH low.
TSH isn’t a thyroid hormone though, it’s a stimulating hormone which stimulates the thyroid gland to produce thyroid hormone in the form of T4 (inactive) which is then converted to the active Free T3 and provides energy for every cell and organ in your body.
If your Free T3 is too high, that could cause anxiety.
Yes and no, the tests done are minimal and rather paints an incomplete picture of your thyroid performance. Normally TSH is done first and if it’s either high or low further testing is initiated. A complete thyroid test consists TSH, Free T3, Free T4, Total T4, Thyroid Antibodies and Reverse T3.
Why? Does thyroid contribute to the neurotransmitter imbalance that would lead to anxiety? Seems odd that’s all he’d want to check
I had a CBC and Metabolic done a few months back, so I assume that’s why he only ordered this one.
Thanks for that reply…I learned something new today.
