So I’ve been hearing alot if hype about the “vertical diet”
When I read it looks alot like what old school bodybuilders ate in 80s…tons of eggs, beef, milk
Seems great but as years progressed wouldn’t eating this way on a cycle be killer on your heart? Generally I try lean cuts keep cholesterol down because I’m scared to pop my heart. But this thing is getting popular for bulking and seems very similar to golden age Staples of lots of red meat & potatoes.
When I was naty I got great results with Anabolic diet & caveman diet for size. But once I started juicing bros around me warned me that it was a no no. I pretty much stuck to fish & chicken. But is the broscience wrong?? Is this dangerous on cycle??
Depends on lipid profile bro, eating a lot of saturated fats with a shitty lipid profile will induce accelerated rates of lipid oxidation, leading to plaque storage and eventually inducing myocardial infarction.
Cardio, support supps can help. I’d be more worried about orals and AAS usage causing you’re heart to “pop”, but it’s a risk we all take. I don’t believe anyone on here has dropped yet. Life is like a minefield, with the poisons we pick/risks we take we are simply running through a more densely populated minefield. I eat a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT of meat, buttery foods, drink a lot of whole milk, eat a fuck ton of dairy and my lipid profile (genetically) isn’t great, HDL of 40-45 LDL of 90-120 trigs of like… 40 (low risk, however on say… orals it’d look a whole lot worse)
Moniter lipids, if they’re absolutely terrible then yes, I wouldn’t recommend it… unless you’re my age, I’m invincible… for the time being…
It depends on your own genetic makeup, however in general, a diet lower in saturated fats will pose a smaller risk of artherosclerosis (proven in many scientific studies but most people choose to ignore because… bacon). Thats for the average joe, throw anabolic steroids in the mix combined with plaque build up from a high fat diet and you have myocardial infarction waiting to happen.
Smash the carbs (avoid processed carbs), keep fats (particularly saturated and animal fats) low and you should be in a better position to be in this game for the long run.

So the broscience was right no\low redmeat on cycles
Not disagreeing just wondering why it was so popular back in 70 & 80s those guys usually ran a bunch of T and Decca I thought…I guess its evolution
Astounds me they also ate like that whilst on winny… yeesh…
The argument can be made they used far lower dosages (supposedly) compared to today, not sure if that’s BS or not. There was a few from the golden era who confessed they were just as reckless as they are today, that many experimented with GH taken from cadavers etc. One old time dude confessed to using 10000mg/day in hormones (yes, ten thousand milligrams) a few days prior to his competitions. Others said they took orals like candy, mike mentzer supposedly took 2500mg deca/wk, while others say “I took one shot of deca and two 5mg dbol tabs/day”.
I do believe some were probably more reckless with their usage than others but come ON!!! You really think anyone is going to acquire Arnold schwartzeneggers level of mass on 200mg deca/wk +5-10mg dbol/day? Sure, you can acquire a very nice physique with such a protocol coupled with on point diet and training, but Arnold level? Nope… I’d hypothesise they were typically using dosages comparable to what the recreational gym goers use today (say in the 4-800mg range), coupled with exceptional genetics…
They DID however cycle off, unlike bodybuilders of today.
I think there’s a genetic component that’s essentially unknowable here. Some people do really well on higher fat diets. Some people can go high carb and get great results (both in body composition and in health). You have to see what works for you within the bigger tent of overall healthy lifestyle.
Yea the winny part amazes me too… I was watching Pumping Iron and some of that old stuff & noticed most of what these guys ate was hamburger, whole eggs, milk & tons of it. The other day my friend thats a BB was telling me her bulking up diet shes been using with clients and herself was the Vertical diet. She sent it to me I read it and thought wow looks amazing. I thought 2 things 1) man on cycle this could really get some growth 2) Long term tho is it worth it
I was planning on keeping orals low…Bassically Tbol first 1-2 weeks then winny the last 1-2 weeks just to clean up… I thought doing a Golden age cycle (npp/test) & diet would be kinda fun… Obvously not fun if you end up having a heart attack in the gym tho
Exactly, no point in being the biggest guy if the end result is requiring the biggest coffin… Well I guess there’s a point of risk/reward here, I can almost guarantee my joints will be absolutely fuuuuuuccckkkkkkked by the time I hit 50, when I’m bedridden with like 2 knee replacements, a hip replacement and whatnot, is there particularly a point living when day to day life is constant unrelenting pain? It’s up to the individual to decide, however chances are given the fact that I have BHJS I’ll have fairly extensive osteoarthritis soon enough… if I don’t already (I think I might have in my ankle, the one with the screws in it and potentially my left knee)
People with BHJS are highly prone to premature onset osteoarthritis and associated joint, cartilage and connective tissue degeneration.
I’m pretty sure the right answer is the one we’ve known for decades: Don’t do anything in excess; moderation is the key to longevity.
That sounds sensible… The guy promoting the diet is a famous BB and claims to use it for training many others. I wasnt born yesterday so my assumption is all these giants had to use a lil something something… Not discounting proper diet & training but lets keep it real…Meaning Id rather eat great take moderate juice gain 20lbs then eat meh take tons of juice and gain 20lbs…Im a fan of least compounds or minimal dose for max gainz
No offence but you remind me of Mr Glass, not sure if you’ve seen the movies lol.

This should be the mantra. Slow and steady all the way.

I agree…Personally Ive gotten more out of simple cycles with great diet & discipline then friends of mine that pin a bunch of shit and dont put in the work on diet
I wouldn’t say most did vertical type diet during the golden age. More like keto or adkins. Some like Zane were just low carb.
Vertical is geared towards high performance athletes.
