Test Results, Should I Be On TRT?

Here are my total testosterone levels from 2015 and from 2 days ago. My dr told me in 2015 that my T levels were in range and that I shouldn’t begin trt. I’m currently waiting for my new dr to call me about my new test results, I’m wondering if I tested low enough this time?

Your were low before and even lower now.

Before any treatment get a full picture - In case you have any underlying disease. Probably good idea to get pituitary MRI but if not easy to get wait for prolactin, lh and fsh labs to see if you may have secondary hypogonadism - then I would def get.
I would also get a testicular ultrasound.

Most doctors are idiots when it comes to testosterone, in medical school doctors are taught in range is normal, but this isn’t true. Young men with see their testosterone peak in their 20’s close to the top of the reference ranges, as they age beyond 30 testosterone start declining and by the time levels are on the bottom of the range you are an old man.

A 275 Total T isn’t normal according to the endocrine society, it seems the free portion of testosterone was never measured, <300 is the recommended value for doctors to prescribe TRT. Your doctor was just mistaken because he probably doesn’t have any education on the matter of normal testosterone levels because TRT isn’t his chosen field of medicine.

Here are some samples of the healthy population.

What’s a “Normal” Testosterone Level

25-34 years of age 45 subjects 617 ng/dL
35-44 years 22 subjects of age 669 ng/dL
45-54 years of age 23 subjects 606 ng/dL
55-64 years of age 43 subjects 562 ng/dL
65- 74 years of age 47 subjects 524 ng/dL
75-84 years of age 48 subjects 471 ng/dL
85-100 years of age 21 subjects 376 ng/dL

Charlie, should I literally take that list to my dr and request that he test all of those?

I wouldn’t, I doubt he will be able to interpret the data, you need to find a doctor that specializes in this area of medicine. TRT is very taboo is western medicine, a lot of doctors will blow you off because they want nothing to do with steroids, to many bad politics attached to it.

A lot of doctors still believe TRT causes prostate cancer, heart attacks and strokes.

in 2015 my dr. Told me my levels were good enough and that if I began trt it wouldn’t be “if” but “when” I had a stroke. I switched to a different dr since then.

I would take the list there.

He may be very against it.
You need to tell him that
These are only labs and you want to be sure that there aren’t other things causing low t.

Blood labs are most non invasive. You may need to convince the Dr.

You can shorten the list I guess. But you should get all those baselines

You may need to go to a urologist and /or endocrinologist to get them all done.

You also need to answer this

The ignorance of some doctors is astounding. It never ceases to amaze me.
