Low Testosterone at 22

For the last 2 years, I have been having low t symptoms. I decided to get my t checked and the results came back low at 370. Although the results were low, the doctor said that everything is okay. Should I try to get on t or try to treat it natural. I’m a pretty active person, I work as a mechanic so I am always on my feet and don’t sit around all day. I’m also young, 22 and I also go to the gym about 4 times a week.

What your doctor failed to tell you was that your testosterone is low given your age, the problem with these ranges is they do not account for age. It’s not normal for a 22 year old guy to have the hormone levels of a 80 year old man.

Your doctor has to follow the guidelines and unfortunately the guidelines are horribly outdated. Insurance won’t pay for TRT unless you are below 300 ng/dL and that’s why he told you you were normal.

If testosterone is the only thing he checked then that’s not enough, you need a bunch of other tests to determine why your levels are so low.

Everything is not okay and most doctors don’t know what okay looks like, only what the guidelines are telling them and those are outdated.

The doctor said everything else came back fine just that my t was low but stable according to him. Should I just wait till my t gets under 300. Can I do anything to avoid trt

Not sure what “stable” means and not sure stable is necessarily a good thing. If it has been at that level for five years, then I suppose it could be considered stable. You could also say it is not improving.

You are having symptoms, I would not wait until they are worse. Avoid TRT? Maybe, but you need to find out why your levels are low, then you will know your options. You may not be able to determine as much, but at least you can rule out possibilities.

Heck no. You are your #1 advocate. It’s your health. At least try to get Dr to run additional labs.

I have an appointment with a urologist soon what should I ask or say to hopefully get help

Testosterone came back low but stable, that’s the most absurd thing I’ve in a long time. There’s no common sense in that statement and doctor is grasping in his understanding of hormones. I’ve heard doctors say your testosterone is low but it’s not that bad, bunch of dimwits I tell you.

The high the SHBG at those numbers, the more symptoms you can expect, so it’s not as clear cut as looking at only Total T number, Free T is what your body responds to and is affected by your SHBG level.

Please tell me this isn’t some GP diagnosing you, if so you never stood a chance.

I did get diagnosed by a gp but he did refer me to a urologist and I was wondering if I should ask or say anything specific

The above lab tests, make sure thyroid is not simply TSH. VitD. Get IGF-1 too.

Make a list of your symptoms and questions/concerns for the Dr.

That was the correct move, GP’s are great if you have bronchitis, ear infection or other ailment. Let’s hope this urologist considers symptoms when looking at the numbers.

had my appointment with the urologist. he wants to do my labs in the morning. I don’t think they know my t is at 370 in the afternoon. doc did talk about trt. ill have my labs done in 2 weeks. should i be concerned about anything ?

Free T is more important as it’s the free hormone circulating in the blood, Total T is bound to SHBG and bioavailable.

Let’s hope this urologist doesn’t overly focus on numbers, recently a guy scored 2 points above the cutoff point and was proclaimed normal.

Makes my blood boil!

Stavo Brother my best Advice for you is to tell Dr QUACK to go take a hike he’s completely Insane I honestly Doubt for one second if his own personal Testosterone levels came back at 300 ng/DL he would do nothing about it and just live with it. NO way would he. so why should you, you should look into DEFY medical TRT experts based in Florida, offer telephone medicine treatment plans, just tell them you’re state in U.S and it should be covered in their Treatment list. Get private if you can afford man, this normal M.D is a egotistical maniac he don’t care for you truly.

The urologist doesn’t know I have low testosterone. I got a reference because of the symptoms I been having ed sometimes feeling really weak fatigue. When I talked to the urologist he said my testosterone may be low and what’s to do my blood work in the morning. I have my appointment in two weeks. Should I try to lower my t any? Is it even possible to lower my t? My t is at 370. how low does it need to get for me to get help

Insurance will refuse treatment above 300, doctors are powerless these days, however I think they should be honest about it instead of telling you you’re normal.

It’s not normal to be scraping along the bottom of the ranges, we call this hypogonadism.

Quest’s total testosterone range is 250-1100. Insurance companies go off that and many, maybe most, urologists do not even check free test. I know a guy at 255 who was denied TRT coverage by his insurance company.

Then they are ignoring the endocrine society guidelines. I expect once more studies are published the cutoff point will increase. Otherwise health problems down the road are a guarantee and lawsuits could rain down as a result.

I would think they are following the profit and loss statement guidelines…….

If they ever see a cost saving element to putting guys on testosterone, they’ll cover it.

Ultimately, it is the doctor’s responsibility to direct your health care.
