The T-1000 in T2 has a “default” appearance of Robert Patrick. Since the series number is the “hardware” and the model number is the human disguise, it suggests that it could be possible for a T-1000 to have a different “default” appearance, hence a different model number. When I mention “human disguise,” I was not differentiating between the difference between a flesh covering and a flesh covering that is only being imitated by liquid metal. Just that, conceivably, there could exist a T-1000 with Arnold as its “default” disguise (A T-1000 model 101).
However, Cameron never explained the nomenclature regarding the T-1000, just the T-800s. Perhaps the T-1000s do not have model numbers, suggesting that they may have no “default” disguise at all, which leaves it open as to how and why the T-1000 from T2 has Patrick as its default.

And here is the screenshot of the HUD.
There has been a T-1001 and T-1002. The T-1001 was in The Sarah Connor Chronicles and the T-1002 was a from a comic book. Both later models appeared to be slight upgrades over the T-1000 but also appeared to have different ‘default’ modes as far as human appearance.
I am pretty sure I read someone post this, but whoever said the line “I’ll be back” was originally by Kyle Reese in T1 is incorrect; I just watched T1 and at 59:45 (roughly) when Arnold is in the lobby of the PD, asking for Sarah Connor and is told to wait, he looks at the cop and says: “I’ll be back.”
Kyle Reece’s famous line was “Come with me if you want to live”.
SPOILER ALERT
I’m putting up the spoiler thing to be safe. Anyway, I think MODOK put it best a few pages back when he said that this movie moved away from the original “skeleton” of what made the first 2 terminator movies work. There is no relentless machine chacing after the heroes. Not having this in Salvation made the movie a bit of a let down for me.
I would liked to have seen the T-600 fill this role. With the ragged almost zombie like appearance and red eyes, they could have brought more of a thrill to the movie. Instead they were just quick kills.
-Only Arnold gets to say “I’ll be back” and “Come with me if you want to live”, nobody else gets to say that.
That’s not correct. Kyle Reese said it first in T1. The very first thing he says to Sarah in T1 was “Come with me if you want to live.” That’s why it was significant when the T-800 (Arnold) said the same line to Sarah in T2.
Ah, that’s where I got this from. I am sure Vader meant that Kyle Reese said the second line, since Neospartan said “Only Arnold gets to say…” implying that Arnold had used the line “Come with me…” Vader was just correcting him and I was correcting Vader because I misread his response to Neospartan.
I didn’t like this movie. The Marcus character was about as flat and uninteresting as they come and I didn’t give a shit about him. The machines weren’t as scary this time around, there was no dread, no impending doom. The plot was really muddy, I had to keep reminding myself what was going on.
I think this movie was worse than T-3. Yeah, T-3 kind of sucked, but minus the douche-bag who played John Conner that movie wasn’t so bad. At least T-3 had some direction, some drive. This movie was weak.
The desert scenes looked to be out of the mojave desert/palmdale area. They filmed part of T2 right down from where my parents live in palmdale(the gas station scene).
I didn’t think it was as bad as T3, which I nearly walked-out of but I thought it was at best mediocre. Christian Bale’s performance was solid but I never felt engrossed in the film and involved in the action. There were also some things that didn’t work for me, that just seemed to be in the film because someone thought they would be ‘cool’, like the motorbike terminators and the giant robot.
The technical stuff - CGI, camerawork etc - was nice, but you see that in every second movie. T4 lacked the intensity that made the first 2 great.
Shitty writing, and resorting to banal cliches (in the spoken lines and in the plot) to tide over too many areas in the movie. That, or studio execs interfering too much to make sure enough bases are covered to try to ensure the movie makes some more money.
I’m sure a rea-life Skynet would really bother taking the time to explain its scheme to Marcus. And Marcus subsequently being able to decide to “be human” just like that.
And after coming up with an elaborate scheme to lure John Connor to its facility, all Skynet sends to kill him is a single T800 - unarmed no less. Give me a break.

When Connor jumps onto - throws himself, really - onto that platform to get to his gun, the Terminator jumps on the SAME platform, NOT too far from him, and Connor shoots that container of molten metal/lava…are you telling me he was TOO far away himself to worry about being touched by the molten metal? It almost seemed like he was FARTHER away then when he first landed there, and I couldn’t believe that.
Does anyone know what I’m talking about?
Yeah, picked up on that as well.
Agree with many of the comments here - Ponce, Steel Nation, MODOK. For those of us who grew up in the 1980s, 1990s (ie, T1, T2), this movie could have been, SHOULD have been, so much better.
Didn’t mind it, but there’re a few things that bug me (see spoilers below).
Saying that though, I am looking forward to the future films to see how they develop the Kyle Reese and John Connor characters.
##SPOILER##
When Marcus gets blown up by the mine and he’s laying on the table with the medic looking at him, she opens up his shirt to reveal a metal skeleton, suggesting to them he’s a terminator model. She then says something to one of the soliers who then hits him in the face with the butt of his rifle. Does this bother anyone else? They just found out that they have a terminator on their operating table, so they hit it in the face with a rifle butt. Wouldn’t that just piss it off?
You see John Connor wrapping explosive around the terminator fuel cells, then, when he detonates them, before they go nuclear, you see explosions running the length of the compound and the tower. When the fuck did he have time to lay those?
The fuel cells going nuclear at the end, ok, so I don’t know that much about military helicopters, but why doesn’t the EMP pulse that would assumably have been generated by the cells going nuclear knock the chopper out of the air?
Schwarzenegger’s CGI cameo. There’s something about this that bugs me, but I can’t quite put my finger on it. His physique doesn’t look right, it looks like they modeled it on someone else is the only way I can put it.
