Teen Supplements

I’m 17 years old and I have been trying to find out whether or not it would be beneficial or harmful for me to use supplements to put on lean muscle. Currently I’m using a whey powder before and after my workout as well as casein powder at night.

Right now I’m interested in using creatine but I am concerned with the side effects relating to kidney damage and tendon strains. If anyone has any recomendations on what I should or should not be suplementing I’d be very greatful.

Truthfully, Creatine and maybe beta alanine would be the only things I would recommend. At your age you really should use nutrition to reach your goals.

Protein powders and creatine are fine. You’d be hard pressed to find any evidence indicating kidney damage from creatine usage. Most protein powders are milk derivatives and creatine is basically a combination of three amino acids (amino acids make protein). Has anyone ever told you that milk or eat lean meats like chicken and turkey are harmful? You’ll be totally fine.

My nutrition is pretty good for a 17 year old just to put it out there. I eat 6 meals a day on average and eat no fried or greasy foods. My protein intake is around 140-150 grams a day and I weigh 150 lbs at 5’10". Another thing I’m trying to determine is if at this age I’d benefit more from just having sound nutrition rather than adding supplements.

Thank you very much for answering any of my questions as well. I realize my question is heard a lot across the internet.

Anyone, not just a 17 year old, would benefit from sound nutrition. Supplements are meant to do exactly what they’re called. Supplement your existing solid dietary habits.

Good, just keep it that way. It is best to put on mass slowly so that you minimize body fat gain.

Well, yes, but at his age his hormonal balance is much better off than say a 45 year old male. That is all I meant.

I just turned 18 and all I used so far were protein powders. Eating like a grizzly bear, I never had trouble gaining size.

Did try creatine for a month (what it took me to finish the bottle) and it actually worked, I picked up around 8 pounds and it helped me break a couple lifting plateau’s, but it’s not all that efficient. I did not experiment any side effects, most likely because I only took it for a month, but it can be hard to digest at times.

Honestly, unless you’re really stuck on a plateau, stick to whey and casein.
GL man

SQUATS AND MILK!!

Aside from that I would stick to a protein supplement like Metabolic Drive and a good PWO drink like Surge.

That sounds good. Thanks for all the advice!

I don’t see why Flameout couldn’t be added as well to something as basic as Metabolic Drive and Surge.

Very true – one I over looked as well.

17?!

Try sleep and protein… lots of it…

Protein if you dont get enough from food, but you should try and build good eating habits for life

i would go with some fish oil too

thats it

Just remember one thing that I didn’t pay attention to at your age (and I wish I did):

If you’re not gaining weight…YOU’RE NOT EATING ENOUGH.
