Teen Nutrition for Starting Strength

Like I said its a short term strategy until 150lbs which is still massively underweight for any male who lifts.
I’m all for clean eating actually but this kid needs a sea-change in his thinking and we’re trying to help him get out of a rut

I make peanut butter cookies lol

So I’m selling my barbell because I have reached 85kg on my squat and that’s all I have and getting a gym membership, I was thinking of changing my routine up is it possible to do a hypertrophy workoit on say for example my shoulders then do a strongman workout like farmer walks with plates… Then strength or would I have to do the different hypertrophies on different individual days?, I want to get bigger in certain areas but also stronger, But would targeting the same muscle group with different hypertrophies be useless?

Dont worry about chasing too many different goals or refining certain groups. For now and quite some time you just need to focus on progress on the big lifts and eating for size.

Saying that this is a great program and has all your’e looking for(farmers walks etc)…

I am with Rampant here… Just lift big and eat a shit load. Don’t worry about you bodyfat % or how you look. Just eat till you bulk up. When I was 17 I went from 180 to 220 in 6 months for football. I ate everything and anytning, ice cream, pizza, burgers, fries, and chinese food. I also took
a high calorie protien shake, (muscle milk I think) and took creatine. I didnt gain all healthy weight. But, after the season I cut down on food and adding in more cardio.

What I tend to do is eat chicken, noodles and like 20g kale for lunch make protein bars with peanut butter 2 a day in the mornings… For breakfast weetabix 3 bars and 2 eggs scrambled for tea chicken and noodles (Do I need more Kale I eat it raw btw for conveinience) Last night I had a chocolate milkshake and had a 150g bag of doritos extra just to get the calories in… I have creatine

I also have casien a 2.5kg bag so I should use it I make my flapjacks with peanut butter whey weight gainer hazelnut milk and like 60g of chocolate spread but divide all that by 14 and you got a bar

So I thought I was gaining, I’m eating about 1,000 Calories over my TDEE, My fitnesspall claims it is 3.3k but I know it is 2700 since I had to lie about my age, So Generally I’m having a lot of polyun/monounsaturates and over 1g/lb of bodyweight of protein, My polo I usually wear is feeling tighter, I’ve been following the same plan A,B,C,A,B,C and getting 7-8 hours of sleep, I think it is my weighing scales I weigh myself at 6 AM every morning but I can step on it and it will say something like 61.3kg then step on it seconds later and it will say 59.9kg, My diet is 3x Weetabix in the morning 4x Medium eggs 1 of my special Fat flapjacks (2-3 a day I made a bad batch this week) they give me about 17g of fat each bar, I get the rest from the Tuna in sunflower oil I add to Tuna Cheese Pasta that gives me 1200 cals a meal and I have 2 of those a day… Vitamin wise I eat about 20+g of Raw Kale a day and MyProtein AlphaMen Vitamins, Creatine before workout 5g I do cycle which burns calories just to get me around faster but I make sure to compensate I think I’d burn 300 cals from that but I may eat crumpets or a 2 flatbread thingies before my workout just for extra carbs, I should be growing right?

You know… No one has replied you for like 3 posts cause let’s face it, you’re reluctant to take in advice for the most part. I haven’t read most of the thread and I certainly don’t plan to. You’re 170cm and basically 60kgs. Here’s something easy and not god damn complicated. Drink 4l of milk everyday. I don’t give a fuck about what you eat, just drink 4l of milk everyday till you’re no longer a stick. Oh and don’t forget to train, I don’t give a shit what you want, just follow a program, in this case starting strength till you stall. When you do stall, follow what’s said in the book.

Side rant: I’m just going to assume you’re living in the US. Fuck you. Seriously fuck you. You’ve no idea how good you have it there, you have absolutely no excuse to be a god damn underweight fuck. You’re underweight simply because you’re unwilling to put in any effort.

More rant: no one gives a fuck about your polyun/monounsatutates. You are a fucking stick. No one gives a shit exactly what you eat. I’m extremely inclined to ask you, what the fuck is wrong with you? I know it doesn’t matter what some random on the internet thinks but I think you are a god damn waste of space from the threads you’ve created and you wanting to join the military? Go fuck yourself.

##I’m usually not this angsty but I’m having a really bad day and eh, I felt like I had to write this. Is this the most rational approach, absolutely not. But eh, it’s the Internet. It’s just what people do. Brain farts.

EDIT: I scrolled up and read most of the thread and you’ve received good advice so fuck you even more.

Shut the fuck up the reason there was no replies is because it wasn’t a reply to anyone whereas the latest comment was, I don’t live in the US, I live in the UK where it is absolutely Shite, I am asking weather they think I’m putting on weight based to my macros because either… I am not or my weighing scales are dodgy don’t talk like a piece of shit to people when you wouldn’t in public, You’re having a bad day so you decide to Keyboard warrior the T-Nation forum… wow you must be fun at parties you absolute drip, BenAnything?

I clearly stated I had an allergy to the milk and you still want me to drink it, I clearly stated that I’m not joining the “Military” the Armed Forces anymore because I can’t do this, I’ve taken the advice I’ve been doing it for about 3 weeks now, I feel I’m seeing progress, People like you that talk to people like shit… You think I’m going to listen to you?, No I’m fucking not I’d rather listen to Rampant who isn’t an incompetent little bitch like you who sees a bit of Times New Roman and loses his shit.

Eh the UK, not that much of a difference, you still have no idea how good you have it there. That being said, I guess I’m being a dick then. I would usually apologise for my rash uncivilised behaviour but no. Something about you literally wanting people to spoonfeed you advice, that’s just horseshit.

I find advice for myself, I found out that Polyunsaturates are good for you… Yes a gallon of milk will add weight to your body… BUT AS LONG AS YOUR BODY CAN TOLERATE ALL THE MILK PROTEIN, I’m having a bad day doesn’t give you the right to try to instigate an argument so I won’t be answered, You really are a sad little man, The UK isn’t really that good at all, Everything is overpriced, You mostly have to eat whole foods and it’s difficult to find the hersheys sugar free chocolate shit you can add to your pancakes in the morning with no macros, Stop assuming I have it amazing, I work 6am until 16:30pm, I get home by 5 ( I work in the construction trade meaning when the current site is finished I might just have to go to one ages away)… I then go to the gym and work out after 15mins at home which takes me an additional 15 mins minimum just to bike there, I then get home after my workout and buy food which costs me an hours wage to ensure I grow, I get back by 7pm Eat my tea, Walk my dog, Sometimes I may have to cook, Sometimes I may have to clean the tubs I’ve used and cooking equipment, I earn £3.30 an hour I’m probabaly all done by 8 Minimum sometimes 9, Go to bed get 8 hours sleep then repeat, Don’t assume I have all the time in the world on my hands, Don’t assume my life is good, I hardly have money at the end of the week due to expenses… My point is if I was you I’d get a life.

You’re right. I’m sorry about that. I was being a dick. I shall get a life.

you’ve got a LOT of growing up to do if you think this means your life is hard. A life like this is pretty normal and called “being a grown up.” Better get used to it. Don’t fret, though.

If you’re not gaining weight then eat more. There’s not much more to be said on the matter, but I’ll give you some tips though seeing as how you’re bitching so much about how hard it is here in the UK (compared to where? Where do you think would be better?). Go to Tesco right now and buy two packs of the cheapest ground beef you can. It’s £1.69 for 500g. Now buy the biggest bag of rice you can find. You can get 10kg for about £20. This works out at roughly 5p per 100g.

Now you’re going to get a cup, a sharpie and a measuring scale. You will use the measuring scale to weigh 100g of rice into the cup. You will then use the sharpie to draw a line on the cup indicating where 100g of rice fills it to.

And you’re all set! Cook up the kilo of mince and divide it into 4 portions. Use the cup to measure out 500g of rice, and cook it. Once cooked, divide the rice into 4 portions to be consumed with the mince.

Let’s do a little maths:

2 packs of mince = £1.69 x 2 = £3.38
500g of rice = 25p

So your entire day of eating has now cost £3.63! Not too shabby, I think you’ll agree.

But what of the macros? Well, the cheap mince has 20g of protein per 100g, and 20g of fat per 100g also. A kilo of this will work out at 200g protein, and 200g fat. The calorie content of this is 2600kcals. Add your 500g of rice (which will weigh MUCH more once cooked, just FYI) which gives 400g of carbs and you’ve another 1600 cals.

So altogether it’s 4200 cals a day. Vegetables are to be consumed, the variety and volume of which will depend on taste and budget considerations.

And if you’re not growing from that you’d add another cup of rice. And another. And another. And another, until you’re growing.

Shit’s checkers, it ain’t chess.

EDIT: and stop being rude to Ben. He’s got an ass you could bounce a quarter off of.

@Chris_Colucci your little edit changed the whole tone of my opening paragraph, but point taken; I’ll play nice.

I agree with yogi get some beef in your diet -a pack of lean mince is a good idea.

Ahh working in construction changes things and explains a bit why such a hardgainer. In that case I would suggest for one meal on the weekend you go full force with proper junk/destroy an all you can eat buffet. For this day you should try and hit 5000 calories, yes 5000.
This is the mindset you need…

More stuff: add olive oil to your pasta at lunch as well as the oil from tuna.
Yeah in UK quality food can be expensive. The company you mentioned you got your multivit from usually has good bulking deals if a weightgainer with oats or bcaas/amino product is on discount get that. Just have the bcaa/aminos mid workout and they can have a big bang for your buck with muscle building. Look out in tesco for end of day discounts/food that is about to be thrown out.

Try and get a long nap or 9-10 hours sleep one day on the weekend also. If go home to family on weekends/ holidays really stuff your face on mom’s cooking

Oh yeah look for another job, as you’re prob aware 3.30an hr is illegal even at the under 20 min wage rate

Also how often are you training?

once a day every six days on the same ABC, ABC plan you gave me… I did do beef but it is time, Tuna is just ready for me in a can so all I have to worry about is pasta, But I know Beef is a good food for raising test, I probably will do that when I get a car and have more time on my hands, And £3.30 is because it’s an apprenticeship, It will be going to £3.40 soon because of the fat I’m an apprentice you get less than minimum because you work full time, Which is dumb because I will get a raise in like 2 years, I’ll keep the BCAA’s in mind, Thanks

Also I only get chance to shop at ALDI, and the variation in each store is different, My mum seems to think it is cheaper which it is for the most part, but then the meat costs more than ASDA, Problem is I pay £40 board a week out of the £138 wage I get, I have other expenses like travel, I’ve tried to get her to lower it to £25 and let me shop for my own food but no, They’re having non of it
