You will have NO time to yourself until you get to your first duty station. I was Army infantry so I’ll let the Devil Dogs talk to you about specifics related to the Marine lifestyle. Once I made it through training and got to my first duty station military life tends to stabilize. Generally we were release from duty around 3 or 4 in the afternoon until first call in the morning. You could go to the gym then but you’ll also need to remember that you’ll have to prep your uniform for the next morning, clean the barracks etc…
Now if you get deployed (Afghanistan, Iraq…) you’ll have that to deal with as well but most places they sent me had fitness facilities to use or we made our own.
Good luck and congrats on making the choice not to hop on gear (yet).
Well I hate to say it… BUT there isn’t a lot of time to lift in the grunts. Once you finally get into a groove of training, you’ll go back out to the field for weeks at a time. So it’s actually harder to have a consistent workout schedule when you are stateside. You’ll have all kinds of time to train if you deploy. All of this also depends on your duty station and unit. I can guarantee that you won’t have any time to train until you graduate SOI. Soooo between bootcamp and SOI you are looking at a solid 6-7 months without a real training schedule. I tried writing a training program for my little brother, also a Marine grunt. It’s damn near impossible because they are always in the field… So have fun eating MRE’s and having fucked up improvised training. Also, take your own food out to the field. You can always take tuna packets, bars, and other shit so you are eating MRE’s every meal.
Seriously - bravo on this answer. You’re an asset to this forum.
Thank you. That means an awful lot coming from you.
