Teach for America?

I am interviewing for this program in a few weeks. I believe it is a worthwhile opportunity and does alot of good for the nation. Has anyone participated or have firsthand knowledge about the program?

I don’t know about it, but I’ve been hearing it mentioned in my ed classes. Just subscribing to the thread to see what it’s all about.

I don’t think Satan worshipers should be teaching children.

My honor fraternity in college is heavily involved in Teach for America, and several alums of that fraternity (all of whom are really great people) did it, and said the experience was great.

I worked with a lot of Teach for America teachers in my former life. Far and away, they are the best prepared people for the classroom. Here is where I taught: http://www.ideapublicschools.org/Page.aspx?pid=191

The whole school district was started by two early-twenties TFA teachers.

Pretty fucking please tell me you’re kidding. What do religious beliefs have to do with anything?

OP, sorry about that, but I’ve never heard of the program.

Would you want your kids taught by someone who has a questionable religion? Take into consideration that lately there has been a huge increase in the number of people claiming “Jedi” as their religion in official government forms and whatnot. Could you actually look past one of your children being taught by a self-proclaimed Jedi?

I still don’t see what anyone’s religion has to do with them doing their job.

And to be perfectly honest, I’d probably be more comfortable with that than a hard line Christian who teaches that a magical invisible man is responsible for everything. At least someone claiming ‘Jedi’ has some respect for science.

Bite your tongue

I do not believe in any god, deity, what have you. Furthermore there is freedom of religion, I ask that mine be respected, as I respect others. This has no bearing on teaching unless someone makes it an issue. Keep it out of my thread.

To the people that posted something useful, I sincerely appreciate it, I hope I get the chance to be a part of the education solution.
