Tea vs. Water

I know we’re supposed to drink bunches of H20 to stay hydrated and all, but I have trouble consuming as much as is necessary for optimal performance. Anybody know if Iced Green Tea, or just tea in general is an equal substitute, or does the introduction of the leaves change the value too much for the job?

Depending on the type of tea it can have a diuretic effect. Maybe someone else can give more info on that. I think tea should be in addition to the liquid you should be drinking already.

Green Tea or Black Tea both work well. Black Tea definitely has alot of caffine.

Brand I use is called TAZO pretty good stuff.

I work at Starbucks so I get to take home the tazo boxes for free. I also only drink green tea when I work there. So I drink a lot of green tea haha.

Phil- I read on this site that we get equal hydration from caffeinated drinks as well as water, but I also heard that (from a different source)coffee actually has a negative effect on hydration. Yours is the only statement here that deals with coffee, so I’m wondering if you have any info on this. Especially since I love the java!

Sure there are plenty on the forum we have discussed it numerous times over the years in detail the varied benefits of coffee. Do a search one good one I can remember was a thread something Like “have your coffee and drink it to”

anyway sure any caffeineated drink has a diuretic effect but as long as you are getting enough fluids elsewhere also it should be more than fine and maybe beneficial at flushing the body out etc… I mean much of our liquids also comes from the food we eat.

we are getting liquid, water all day everything wet moist has water. some Java aint going to hurt you and the antiox’s etc will help, sorry very short and not to concise answer but try those searches we covered this a lot prior.

Coffee still hydrates you, but because of the diuretic effect not as well as water. The limit on how much coffee you drink is dictated by how much you can drink and not have trouble sleeping, or worse (eg heartbeat irregularities, high blood pressure).
