My brother and I want to get tattoos. I already have 2 (USMC on my shoulder and a bulldog on my chest). He has none. We want to do something that has a brotherhood theme (we both would get the same thing that symbolizes being brothers). Nothing huge and gawdy. Any ideas?
come up with a few family specific idea’s or images and let a tattoo artist design a family crest for you guys.
Any tattoo is “gawdy”
Dude… if you want a tatoo to mean something to you, choose it between you and your brother. Dont ask for someone elses idea.
Matching sloths would be nice…

If it is something for brotherhood, then it should be something ya’ll come up with. Having said that a few friends of mine have tats on their right forarms that when read right side up say “life” and when read upside down say “death”. It’s one tat.

Beavis: Tattoos are cool.
Butthead: Yeah, I’d like to get a tattoo right on my butt.
Beavis: Yeah, I’m gonna get a tattoo of a butt, that has a butt-shaped tattoo on it.
Butthead: Oh yeah? Well, I’m gonna get a tattoo of a butt, that has a butt-shaped tattoo on it, huh huh huh, and I’m gonna put it right on my butt.
Beavis: Yeah, heh heh heh heh.

Cool.

I’m just looking for ideas. I’ve looked all over for some “brother” symbol. Looked at Chinese characters, but every site I looked at showed a different symbol for the word Brother. I was hoping someone here might know of an ancient Celtic, Zulu, Mongolian…symbol for brother or brotherhood. Google images hasen’t been much help. We have decided on the “brother” theme, we’re just having a hard time coming up with a design.
I design tats all the time for people…I have four tribals myself and will of course get more.
If you two have a common interest, start off with that and make something out of it.
If you two went through a life changing event together, find something to symbolize that and use it.

OK… but what about what you guys are interested in. You could work a brother theme into something else.
How about a tattoo of the two of you crossing swords in a toilet?
Nothing shows true brotherhood than crossing swords…

Sweet! But I don’t think Mom would approve.

That’s kind of the problem. We’ve always been polar opposites. He was the wild party animal in school, I was the preppy “parent’s dream”. He’s a 33 year old single musician and music producer in LA, I got married at 24 and became a Marine Officer and stayed on the east coast. He suggested we get a tattoo, I think, as a way of bringing us closer. Our Dad and his brother were much the same way (Dad was a conservative career Navy Officer and Uncle Phil was a liberal hippy-ish teacher in LA). Uncle Phil died suddenly a few years ago riding his bike and we never really got to know him. I think my brother feels a little like an outsider.

I remember when I wanted to get a tatoo of Roy Orbison on my butt. Remember, what Mama doens’t know won’t hurt her.

Maybe you could each get the Hulkster with a caption “Whatcha gonna do brother?”

You guys should get tattoos of the brothers from the movie “boondock saints”.
Do you guys have any Scottish, Irish, or Native American heritage at all? Somethign like that. Something that would have a tribal symbol or a family crest. You could think about that and go from there.
