Tall Lifter Problems w/ Squat (and DL Ratio)

OP 6ft is not that tall, but as someone who is 6’3" with ridiculously long femurs I bet I can tell you your problem. Your quads are at a mechanical disadvantage during squats because of femur length, so they don’t get worked. Your body tries to do a movement as efficiently as possible and is since your deadlift is much stronger than your squat thats back and posterior chain.

start hammering highbar squats, front squats,(highly recommend a heeled shoe to further emphasize the quads) hell even leg press or hacksquats for more quad hypertrophy as well. this increased my squat faster than anything except smolov.

Not that tall? Perhaps you misread. 197,5cm and i dont know what it really is in inches n shit but like 6’5" or something. But like brian shaw is inch or two taller than me so i think im tall. And yes to that squat is weak bionechanically for me. Im doing now squat and good mornings for assistance (felt good btw, next time ill do with cambered bar tho).

I did front squats for a long time since they have beter carryover to strongman events

Now i have clear picture to do with my squats.

And like one 800+kg total raw lifter, good friend of mine, said that you are just weak and thats the simplest explanation

I read over the thread a couple of times and never saw where the OP mentioned a problem with forward lean.

For that, yeah front squats galore, SSB squats, manta ray squats and high bar. Free or box.

FWIW, I new a pretty tall guy who squatted strongest using a very upright, narrow stance squat so being tall doesn’t necessarily mean the back is going to try to take over in the squat. Maybe more often than not, but honestly I’m not sure how strong the correlation is if there is one.

Ahh sorry I read that as 6ft not 6ft 5, then yes you are definitely tall

Agreed on box squats. I believe box squats have no place in raw training, unless you are using them to train yourself to hit a particular depth, and you just can’t feel it any other way. I don’t know of any good raw lifters who suggest these. I’ve seen a lot of dudes with 350 lbs squats who swear by them though…

I think he does pretty good for himself. I also do them for my DE work because my knees/hips feel too beat up to do free squatting on ME if I do free squatting on DE day, and I think I do okay for myself.

Also did the 350 squatters who swear by them do their squats blind folded on one leg while standing on a bosu ball while claiming natty status and yelling about his pound per pound strength? It kinda counts for the functionality. (jk)
