Tall Bodybuilders?

Brad Gillingham is a great powerlifter and, I believe, 6’3" tall.
Steve Reeves, one of the all-time great bodybuilders was, I believe, 6’2" tall.

Not really a body builder in the strictest sense of the word, but what about Michael Clarke Duncan? What about Bob Sapp? Both are friggin huge and friggin tall. You obviously haven’t looked very hard for inspiration. I think you have looked harder for excuses. Being tall means you have a bigger frame to put more muscle on it. Stop your bitching and start working out.

What makes you assume I don’t work out? You honestly think I came to this site to bitch about being tall? Out of everything I’ve said, you honestly think I don’t work out? Get a brain faggit. Stop trying to sound cool over the internet. You post was not constructive at all and I think that the editors here should have removed it. Your spamming a thread you don’t belong in.

How about Nathan Jones (he’s the big guy killed in the first fight by Brad Pitt’s character-Achilles in the movie “Troy”). Okay he’s not exactly a “bodybuilder” per se or a “powerlifter”- but I’m sure he got there from doing a bit of both! ha! He’s an old WSM competitor from '95- Magnus Samuelson broke his arm, arm Wrestling. After seeing him in Troy, I don’t think it held him back that much! ha!
Here’s one link I found…

Dude, this guy is a monster. 6’10", 330 lbs, muscular, lean, and strong as hell. I’ve never seen anyone this height this big.

Don’t worry about it dude. I’m 6’3" and I know that everyone shorter than me is jealous.

Um, no.

Yes you’ll never be a powerlifter…

Why not? Taller guys can deadlift great if they have the arm length. Besides, you can be a powerlifter without worrying about being a TOP powerlifter.

Why the fuck are you going to do something unless you’re going to be the best at it someday?

There are powerliftesr over 6 feet that squat over a grand.

I hurt my left wrist January 1st of this year. It still hasn’t gotten any better yet! The long bone connecting to the outside of my wrist hurts when I strain it with heavy weight. Is there any way I can heal my damn wrist and do preacher curls without any agony??? Wrist supports don’t seem to help at all.
Not by doing preacher curls dude! I did the same thing earlier this year. It takes a while to heal if you don’t get on it properly. A good rule of thumb is that if a movement hurts, don’t do it.

Preacher curls are a terrible exercise anyway, they cause a lot of elbow problems. Just switch to dumbell curls for a while so you can find an angle that doesn’t hurt your wrist. Better still to eliminate movements that put too much stress on your wrist at all. You can always get back into them when you’re pain free.

Herb - what the? You don’t have to do something to ‘be the best’. Just if you enjoy it. 99% of the population don’t have what it takes to be the best at something anyway, what should they do, just sit at home watching tv and eating fries?

Of course not.

The point of living is to enjoy yourself. Not “BE THE BEEEEEST!” Sure that’s fun, but it’s better when it’s a by product of doing something you have fun with.

Griffin, take a chill pill, calm down.Listen not hear what he said. Also over online it’s hard to read the personality of some, but by just reading a few of Massif’s posts I get a bit of what he means, its not all said for nothing, more of tough love.

Firstly your initial post does lead one to believe you are just simply whinning, you can’t change your height so a pity fest ain’t helping anyone, besides to many someone complaining of their taller height reminds many of a beautiful girl complaining of being seen as just a hot girl, it’s a yawn fest that most people don’t care to hear. Also the fact that there are obviously and easy to think of tons of examples of big muscular guys, but at the end of the day these guys aren’t you, I never really got that need of inspiration when the person that inspires you has a small strain of similarity between you.

PS: About the wrist and elbow issue, curling with a barbell, which does not let the individual arms follow their unqiue movement, isn’t optimal at all, it’s much better to use Dumbbells if you feel the need to curl and worship your biceps. Among wrist and elbow issues curling with a barbell or where both arms have to follower the same unnatural path can cause “shin splits” in the forearm

I understood most of this stuff already. Just helps hearing it from someone else who isn’t short. My main workout buddy is 5’8, so he doesn’t understand a think I tell him. Every time he says “You need to work on your benching!” or “Go lower on your squats!” I just want to strangle his ass. He gets mad when I tell him that power lifters are better short, and taller people have trouble lifting heavy.

I’m not going to stop powerlifting, no matter what!
I hope my initial post didn’t make this seem like a worthless topic, actually I am pretty interested by this myself, and you bring up a good situation to discuss.

Not always but a majority of the time it is true that the smaller guys while everything else remains constant will have that “fully muscular” look much sooner or to a higher degree, but also height is one of those pricey commodities too, being able to add the both is a holy grail itself.

I have a friend who is 5’9" and what you say is pretty similar, he like to bench a lot, and he can put up more weight but I believe I have much more LBM, me at even 6’1" suck cock, balls and urethas’ at benching, but I am more image oriented. Does it make you weaker than the shorter guys, no, but does it make bigger lifts a bit easier for them, probably. Muscle insertion and skeletal build also have a factor in this too.

My post was not constructive, hey? In my post, ONE SENTENCE was was not either true or constructive. In your post only the first sentence was not a boo-fucking-hoo session about how your are soooo hard done by to be tall. If you had left it at “Does anyone have any examples of taller bodybuilders, as I need some inspiration” you would have received much more positive replies. Instead, you post a friggin whine-fest. The rest of your above quote is not even worth a reply.

Are feeling pissed off? Good!! Now quit your bitching and go back to the gym. I gave you two excellent examples of tall and massive people. Use any search engine, find pictures of them and use them, plus any of the other 50 examples of big, tall units that people have given you. Inspiration is not that hard to find if you get off your butt and look.

Lots of Love,

Massif
