You must teach at Fatness First in Deakin. I knew that I had seen you round somewhere before.

Fat chicks need love too, but they gotta pay.

Do the simple things first. Do ME deadlift once a week. Work up to a 1-rep max in small jumps. Try to add 5 pounds a week. Three or four days later, do 8 sets of 3 with about half of your max (speed day). Don’t overtrain your other lifts but do some assistance work. When you stall on this method, you need to search for another. But most people can put a lot on their basic lifts using this simple method.

Thanks deanosumo

Have been prety much following this method but the mistake I was making was I would stop at triples. But now once I started doing singles the weight started to go up.

Also my weak point is from the floor.

Anyway shall continue with this method for a while. Thanks for your advice.

I agree with B-mac. I was in a similar situation back in August of 05. I was at a 285 DL then. I followed a westside program and as of May 16th my DL is now at 455. I am 5’8" and 218Lbs. I say it was the Goodmornings and pullthroughs that helped me most. Side note my GM is 400 for 3 reps (wide stance) I hope this helps. Good luck.

Dude that GM is out of this world. Do you max out on the pull throughs also.
I’m not sure it would be possible to max out on pull throughs with decent form.

Exercises that have helped me the most with my deadlift: pulls from a deficit, stiff legged deadlifts, and pin pulls.

This doesn’t make much sense? Do you have video? If you can GM 400lbs, your deadlift should be way up. I have D/L 435 4 weeks ago and GM 235 for a 1RM this week. This was with a large ROM but I failed at 245. this at @178lbs.

I call 100% bullshit. Sorry dude I always give people the benefit of the doubt but I would need to see video of that. Unless your ROM is 3 inches I don’t buy it. Please post a video of it and I’ll be happy to eat my words and apologize.

When you don’t surround yourself with anyone stronger than you it is easy to lose sight of what is “bullshit” and what is not. I’m 205lbs and I can rep deadlifts with 500lbs. And furthermore, I don’t really think that’s terribly impressive.

I don’t find it that hard to believe that someone that has been following the Westside template and using GMs as a max effort movement has gotten strong at the GM movement. Is it any different than someone that squats every week and gets strong at squats?

I’m not the king of deadlifting, but I think I have another piece of advice.
If your weak point is from the floor you might want to try doing some deadlifting off a box or platform. Stand on a low box (so the bar is a few inches lower than usual). You could do this on your speed day. Good luck.

Unfortunately I do not have the equipment to max on pullthroughs. I workout at a commercial gym and their low pulley only goes to 200 but I do not think it is a true 200Lbs. I do however like to do heavy S.L. Deadlifts. My best on those is 385 for 2 reps but I am wanting to hit 400 in the next yr. Don’t forget to train the Abs heavy also. Astrong core can help your DL a lot.

Rich44, you ass hole.

I pull 425lbs and I struggle with 135lbs on GM’s.
Sorry man. What are your stats? I am short and heavy so I have a thick middle. I also do GM every week. Just keep plugging away at the GM and the weight will come.

Dude first off I do not own a camcorder of any kind and just because someone posts a lift you can not do does not make it bullshit. Also my ROM is much more than 3 inches.

I’ve sceen power lifters at my gym GM 375 so I believe his 400.

But I too would like to see that video as well.

Sorry man no way to take a video for me. Also you are right I have friends who can GM close to 450. When you lift with people stronger than you, you get stronger.

First off I weigh 218lbs and I am short. My DL weakness is at the start of the lift. I have a friend who is 181 and can DL well into the 500’s but his GM is around the same as mine. He is also taller than me and taller people are better for DLing.

Not true. Arm length, hand/finger size, torso length, and size of belly are what matter most.

Also leg length. Really long legs suck balls for deadlifting.

I’d be curious how much you squat. My squat strength was/is horrible and as I’ve brought it up my deadlift has exploded. Also, I like to do some pulling from a small deficit after my ME box squats. A 5/8 piece of plywood can add a surprising amount of difficulty. If you’re not doing box squats, I really think that will help, as they build starting strength, which you need off the floor.

Hope those ideas help!

horror,

Where exactly is your dl weakness?

Have you read Mike Robertson’s and Dave Tate’s articles?

Soco

I’m also working up to 405. I was at 315 a month ago, now I’m at 345. I do ME leg work every Saturday. First saturday, I do ME deads.

1x10x135
1x6x195
1x4x225
1x2x295
Then singles at 315, 325, 335 and 345.

The following Saturday, I do the same basic progressions, but with Squats, followed by light deads or SLDLs. During the week, try some DE leg work with explosive reps to build some power.

This way, you go for new max’s every other week, which gives you plenty of recovery time between attempts. When trying to bring up your deads, don’t neglect to work on squats! Good luck!
