I truly believe anyone seen typing on a damn lap top while in the gym supposedly training needs to be kicked out. That is the dumbest shit I have heard yet. If we let this slide, we might as well get ready for them to bring nice little tables to sit at placed in between the benchpress with bookcases filled with novels posted in between the dumbbell racks. We can just fucking merge Barnes and Noble with Gold’s gym and a Starbucks. Hell, why break a sweat when you can chill-ax?
You didn’t even read his post. He works out in his home gym.
What the fuck is going on with T-Nation. I mean, although I find Prof X opinionated, I generally like his posts because they at least are intelligent. He has, generally, at least read the post he is responding to…
I refer people at my gym to this website sometimes. I saw a big pudgy guy weighing himself…I work at the gym - I’m a sweat-wiper, floor vacuumer… I keep my gym really clean, and I pay attention to the people there…
So I see a pudgy guy weighing himself. I ask him “Putting on? Or taking off?”
He responds “Taking off.”
I explain about T-Nation. I tell him about the articles. I tell him to go into the forum/talk section if he wants to…but its mostly guys arguing about chuck norris and calling 165 pound healthy people who are far healthier and more muscular than 90% of the population “skinny” and “unhealthy.”

In all honesty, I would feel the same about someone’s focus in their home gym as well. In fact, unless someone has a real gym set up like a few posters here who have gone all out, I doubt how serious most people are who claim they train at home. I am not saying it isn’t possible. However, there comes a point where most serious trainers would find it difficult to keep up with their own strength if they had to buy all of the equipment.

Stop fucking around and just lift.
I think that cell phones are bad, but a laptop is disgraceful.
Just my opinion.
I agree…plenty of time out of the gym to surf the web. Distractions like a laptop, cell phone, etc. take away from the intensity of your lift, not to mention those around you! Just my opinion.

165 pounds is skinny… unless your like 4 foot or a girl. if you workout and eat right there is no reason anyone should be 165. and i wouldnt use the word 165 and muscular in a sentence together.

There’s no way I’d have the time to use a computer between sets. I go to the gym to get away from that stuff. It’s all heavy iron and a notepad and pencil to record my efforts, along with a water bottle.
This is why I train at home. I Can’t even imagine waiting for a station while some guy’s sitting there tapping on his laptop. Someone’s gonna flip out on that brand-new Dell of yours.

He trains at home TOO.
Who’s going to flip out on him at home? His dog?
Look two posts up. I figured that out eventually.
Still, maybe his mom is really hardcore and is waiting for the squat rack. I vote for surfing during training, just in case.
i’m not the type to be without my computer for long…my work demands that i’m pretty much always near it, BUT training time is my time…my time away from modern niceties…my time to get aggressive and lift
each to their own i suppose, but the most technological thing i bring to the floor is a bottle…
