My band’s slow stuff. Currently working on faster, more twisted material combining elements of older Black Metal with some of the newer bands like Leviathan, Blut Aus Nord and such. Not for everyone.

Slow? Not really… All I’d say is it’d be nice if you had a better recording. I think the music sounds good, but it’s hard to listen to this way.
“Great! I was thinking of changing to EMG pick ups as I read a lot of great reviews on them.”
I play an esp 7-string tuned to drop-G. Switched to an emg-707 a couple months ago, really nice low-end growl. Just keep in mind the 707 uses emg’s bass pickup case, so you’ll have to router your guitar to make it fit. A little un-nerving using a power tool on your guitar, but definitely worth it.
If you guys need som real “kickassfuckingworkoutofyourlife” -music, check out some of the swedish bands (i`m swedish by the way) ; The Haunted, Entombed, Dozer, Anata
Good luck boys, once you go swede you never go back !!
LFMatt, compared to our other stuff, those two are very slow. And the recording quality is meant to be that way, although perhaps with a little more bass. It’s just the style and atmosphere for the genre we play.
Philslang, there are definitely some good Swedish bands. But as for Entombed, their best stuff was “Left Hand Path” and “Clandestine”
I agree, but if check out “Morning star” it`s up there !!
what does jackass have to do wit metal?
philslang: No kidding! What is up with all the bad ass Swedish bands?? There a re a shit ton of them.
Lohryx5: Ah, got ya. After listening a few more times, I am feeling what you are going for. Shoulda posted that after the fact.
This is really hard core, well actually it’s grind core. Finnish band called Rotten Sound:
Listen their songs and tell your honest opinion.
I can ignore a discussion of Swedish death metal no longer. Three words: AT-THE-GATES. All of their stuff kills it, especially the first couple of records (“Red in the Sky…”, “With fear…”). That said, NY/Florida style death is what really inverts my cross: Deicide, Morbid Angel, and Suffocation. Increase your bench press with “Rebel Lands.”
Battlelust, I would have taken you for more of an Amon Amarth, Turisas or even Unleashed type person (Viking Metal!). And Morbid Angel’s “Blessed Are the Sick”, awesome.
At The Gates were incredible and undeniably the originators of the current Gothenburg sound. I do prefer “The Red in the Sky is Ours” better though.
LFMatt, the reason for all the Swedish bands is because it’s heavy and brutal but still relatively accessible to the mainstream listeners. Yeah, the scream some, but they also sing some. And most of them look like they walked out of an Abercrombie & Fitch or Hot Topic store. Not saying they aren’t good, cause some of them are very talented, they’re just very trendy. And LFMatt, thanks for taken another listen. As I said before, it’s not a sound or genre for everyone. There are many things that some wouldn’t consider music per se(Merzbow), but every genre has its listeners.
The one thing I can say about metalheads is that they’re generally a little more open minded than any other music listener.

Good call mayne. Those guys are bad ass. Love lifting to that kinda stuff–gets me pumped but I just can’t listen to it for more than one album a day if I’m just chillin. It gets kinda repetitive.

yeah, I have the day off…
I agree that the Swedes tend to make their death a bit more palatable to the average non-metal listener. With a few notable exceptions: Bathory, Marduk, Abrubtum (sp?), etc. That said, the classic Gothenberg (ATG, In Flames, Eucharist, Amon Amarth) sound is just as catchy as the earlier Stockholm sound (Dismember, Entombed, Unleashed). The Goteberg-ers just had better production and a wee bit more “pop” sensibilities.
BTW, I just noticed the invocation of Impiety in an earlier post! Kaos Kommand 696 is one of the best lifting CDs of all time! APOKALYPTIK BATTLEBEASTS!!!

There is a lot of bands now who say that they are the true gothenburg-sound, thats bullshit, In flames, Soilwork are two bands who capitalize on the hype, they suck assballs, the only true Gothenburg sound is ATG!!
Marduk and dismember are two bands that you got to respect, but Bathory is only big on the hype thats been around the last 15 years, if you knew the story behind the band (one guy, QUORTHON…R.I.P) and to be honest shitty sound does not equal good music…
Enough swedish music, you americans have the best band in the world right now - Mastodon, saw them live a couple of weeks ago, man goosebumps!!
By the way do you know how you get the goosebumps off your dick?? = take the dick outta the goose…
Kick ass!!!
Heikki: OMG!! I LOVE this. Totally sick, well produced. The kind of thing that makes me want to do violent mindless stuff. Currently DL’ing all of those songs to put in my rotation. \m/ \m/ to you!
Man, everything I hear from Europe (black / death / grind) is friggen SWEET!
Someone recently sent me an e-mail from the site and asked about my opinion on Schecter guitars. But you didn’t leave a way for me to reply. Either PM me or reply to this thread so we can discuss.
