Thanks for the tips man. Paul Gilbert is awesome. I don’t even know what “outside sound” means though so that one video threw me for a loop LOL.
Anyone else have anything good to share?

Yeah pretty much anything Paul Gilbert teaches, you can apply it for the rest of your life. haha
The man is a monster!
I have made a discovery called Monte Allum Modifications for all the stomp box fellows on here.
Seems to be all the rage around here for a while.
basically you take your stock Boss pedals, buy a mod kit, switch out the capacitors and diodes, and you all of a sudden have a boutique pedal without paying 400 bucks for it!
amazing. I have modded most my pedals.
there are a lot to choose from but mainly Boss pedals are what the kits are for. check it out. they have sound clips.

Re: Roland Jazz Chorus
Could’ve been earlier but I didn’t know for sure, and didn’t want to talk out of my ass. For clean tone recordings lately we’ve been using the clean channel on the peavey XXL. Believe it or not it sounds very warm!

that thing sounds like a monster amp
I just saw Metallica play live yesterday… Lined up from the morning and got on the rails for the opening acts (Baroness & Lamb of God), and Metallica!!!
Caught a pick each from Trujillo & Hammet… I’ve been practicing all fucking day! Maybe the picks I caught contain some Metal Juju I can tap into ![]()

aahh awesome! so whats the material that Hammet’s picks are made of?
are they the heavy gauge plastic or Tortex?? 1mm?

I don’t know if this would work but I’m gonna throw an idea by you guys. My friend/flat mate/band member is a sound engineer and has recording equipment set up in his room. If I put together a rhythm track with drums and put it up for DL or on youtube would you guys record yourselves jamming to it and then we can piece them together to make some sort of G3 vibe T-Nation jam? haha
EDIT: or a back track from somewhere else. Whatever… [/quote]
If I could figure out how to import the backing track into RiffWorks I’d love to contribute to something like that. Would be fun!

re: Picks
What do you guys use/prefer?
I started out with the standard Fender med to heavy’s, moved to Tortex (Green), then after a few years as my technique developed I switched to Dunlop Jazz picks and have been using them now for over 20 years.
They’re about the size of a nickel (much smaller than a standard pick). I use a lot of thumb in my style (percussive, harmonics, tapping, etc) and also hybrid picking and I find that the smaller pick is easier to manipulate. I’m much more precise with the jazz iii picks. Regular picks feel like I’m holding a 2x4 in my hand now.

I love Jim Dunlop picks, but the regular rock ones - wider than the jazz. I always liked that rough texture for grip. Especially when playing technical passages. Been using them 20 years now.
I also use D’addario picks sometimes, but mostly the Dunlops - my favorites. Usually a medium to heavy guage.

Right now I’m using Dunlop Big Stubby 3mm. I was using a PLEC 1.5mm before that, but it had no grip and was constantly slipping.
Pic: Haha, was looking for a pic of the pick, and came across this. Explaining to pops what I wanted to do when we were done with the tour. Talk about progress… I’m about 40 lbs heavier now…
I was just about to hit the hay when I came across this. This is the first I’ve seen of Orianthi and WOW!!! hot even if for no reason other than she can seriously shred!! Lol this is probably gonna keep me up for another hour searching for more. Here are some vids:
FML FML FML FML DO WANT!!!
1: LOL, Steve Vai is so cheesey. (not his playing, which is rad)
2: Seems like your typical teen girl song then out of fucking nowhere she lays down a sick run at 0:30!!!
3: uhhhh… time to practice…
I don’t know how you guys can play with the Big Stubbys. They’re just so small I can barely play without it slipping out of my hand. I use the same as SkyNett but the softer 0.75mm one. Love those things…

Seems like plastic, since I use tortex, and Hammet’s pick feels smoother than my picks.

This was my #1 for about a decade. It was originally a Westone Corsair (Jackson copy), but I cracked the neck doing a ‘spin’ (the strap came undone and the guitar went about 10 feet and landed on the headstock).
The replacement neck is a Warmouth reverse headstock birdseye maple with a scalloped (13th fret up) rosewood fingerboard.
That’s an EMG 85 in the bridge.
I still have this guitar, disassembled in case.

Scalloping.
Orianthi! yeah amazing chick.
for picks I used a 1mm Tortex for the longest time, then when I started playing acoustic, I discover .60 to .80 plastic picks made it nice to strum chords. now I play with either 1mm Tortex or 1mm Fender plastic ones.
Yeah I cant play with those small picks, kinda hard to keep a grip. I do a lot of strumming.
that Westone looks fast! I dont think I can own a guitar like that.
People might anticipate me being a shredder, and I cant come through. haha
I cannot find any left handed guitars here in SEA. so everytime anyone I know goes to the US, and I have the budget for it, I ask them to bring one in for me.
My girlfriend is now in SF so my latest axe coming in is an Epiphone Sheraton II. it just came out in a lefty version. and it is gonna be sick!

That’s the exact pick that I use, can’t even play with anything else.
I modified it by sanding the edge down at a 45 degree angle on both sides where it hits the string giving it a very fine pin edge similar to the jazz 3s. Best pick hands down.

Ah dude that is one beautiful guitar ![]()
You players have any jokes?
how about: Whats the difference between a guitarist and a large pizza?
the large pizza can feed a family of four. (zing!)
what do you call a guitarist that doesnt have a girlfriend?
homeless. (pow!)
