T-Nation Guitar Players' Thread

I have only started playing guitar again after a year of weight lifting. I can’t believe I went so long without playing, but I think I needed a break after feeling uninspired to play anything new or challenging. Anyone else here ever had that feeling?

Anyway, I’m really been digging Al Di Meola lately. I’ve always had a thing for Latin/Flamenco guitar music.

another bass player here; i’ll just go stand over by the p.a. cabinets while you guys solo…

Here is some of our stuff (I’m lead guitar and recorded the 2nd guitar, I was our only guitarist

Have a listen and let me know what you think

This is good shit man. I’m digging it. I wish I knew more people in my area into metal. I’m going to see Children of Bodom and Black Label Society tomorrow…by myself.

Of course man! Bass players rule. : ) Without them we would have no bands - only random guitarists, drummers and keys players in search of some bottom end. ; )

Several of my faves - Billy Sheehan, Stu Hamm, Geddy Lee, Stanley Clarke, Steve Harris, Jaco, John Paul Jones, Michael Anthony, John Patittuci, John Myung and Juan Alderete.

There’s tons more of course - we need Yo Momma in here now… [/quote]

Geddy Lee has influenced my playing more than any other bassist, I’m a bit of a Rush lunatic. But I have huge respect for the other guys you named too.

Above pic is with my band, its from a few years ago (I’ve since cut my hair and bulked up a bit).

You won’t be disappointed. I didn’t see Clutch, but CoB was great (except for the keyboards; they don’t fit to me), and BLS fucking rocked my face off.

CB - I don’t “hate” you - hate is a strong word.

Thank you for the compliment. Appreciate it. : )

I kind of thought you looked like a young Ritchie Blackmore. Definitely a classic ‘shredder’ pose.

That’s pretty good stuff man. It’s always nice to think before listening to a local song “Oh, this will be another lame song I don’t want to hear” and then have your mind blown lol. I’ll be honest and say I’m not into that sort of metal, but I can actually dig that. Keep it up!

wow, some ppl on here can shred.
don’t have any vids of me playing, only mp3s
been playing for a few years - slayer, death, pantera, motorhead, black sabbath type of stuff.
my main ax is Schecter Jolly Roger w/EMGs, amp-wise I’m a big fan of Peavey 5150. I’m sure my neighbors are too lol.

ive been playing for 10 years, mostly popular stuff that i hear on the radio and challenging stuff that i want to impress others with. i dont practice like i used to and ive probably forgotten more than ive learned.

when my collection was abundant, here were my babies:

(from left to right) Dean (i forgot the model name)A/E, Epiphone Black beauty, Ovation MOB A/E, and Rainsong WS1000 carbon fiber A/E(never getting rid of that one). all of them have since been sold and only the Rainsong remains…

except for this one - ESP LTD EC-1000

ashy, diluted, and tokyopop:

Wow, you guys are fucking SICK!

Ashy, I think your lead singer is pretty freaking good man. He reminds me of a younger Randy Blythe, before he got his high range dialed in. I wouldn’t change a thing. I like your work on the second song the best, but they are all solid.

Diluted, what are you in the band? Didn’t see if you mentioned it. That song immediately reminded me of Dream Theater. Very well put together.

Tokyo, that is some sick work on that song.

I’ve been playing for just under 6 years now. Not nearly as much as I did the 1st 2-3 years but still loving it! Here are some pics of my gear: Ibanez RG something (7string), ESP LTD Deluxe M-1000 and the amp is a Randall RG-100.

Thanks Steel Nation!!

Diluted played bass and screamed for us for a while.

How would you compare the Epiphone Black Beauty to that ESP?

I ask because I’ve played a Gibson SG Standard and a Gibson Les Paul Standard, and I prefer my Viper (ESP LTD w/EMGs) to both. It’s possible that I’m just more comfortable with it though. I have a little heavier strings on it (11s) and they just feel better to me. The pickups fuckin scream too.

Stock pic of my ESP LTD Viper 1000 Deluxe

Had a bunch of crappy guitars. I have played for 25+ years and I finally bought an 08 American Strat it is truely a wonderful thing. I will try to vid something. I love solo guys nd just about anything good. I love the 80’s and there asre some sweet shots on here too funny. Gotta love it. I play through a bossm50 which is fun and and a 1X12 Dean Markley amp I have had since I was a junior in high school…someday a marshall stack. My life was pretty similar to waynes world minus all the cool stuff. The scene in the music store was all me.

Very impressive. You guys are TIGHT! Great syncopation, very nicely arranged and musically interesting. Really good - great tone TokyoPop - is there a 2nd guitar player or did you double track the lead harmonies?

Who are your influences? : )

Well done - also tight. The nu-metal you young guys are playing now days has that sick, super-tight, complex rhythm going on - sounds great.

Nice work. What kind of amp set-up do you have going?
