He’s got his own Gibson model. With whammy bar…

It’s more of a crime against nature.

HA! I love FR’s, and I love the sound of LP’s but I can’t play them. Not because of the smaller scale, but I just can’t get comfortable with them sitting or standing. Too much work to balance them.

They are just so fat and clunky. Fat neck, huge neck joint, shitty access to the upper register…sound great though. I could paly one in the studio just for tracking rhythm. Never live or for leads.
The father of a guy I used to work with had an old Les Paul that he drove all the way to Michigan to buy many years ago. Not positive what model it was.
According to his dad, “he’s heard some good things about a gentlemen making guitars in some place called Kalamazoo”
I mention it because his Dad never played it, he perfered a peice of shit Kramer lol.
He took it to a local Gibson guy to give it a cleaning and when the guy finished drooling over it he made a horseshit lowball offer thinking this old fuck dosn’t know what he’s holding onto. Well the old cat just shut the case and walked out with a fuck you jack, I’m outta here.
I agree with you guys about Les Pauls, they are tone monsters but i will never own one. The neck and body are just not conducive to my playing style and are too uncomfortable.
I’ve become a big fan of PRS custom 24’s because of this. I can get the same incredible tone as a Les Paul (if not better IMO) but they are far more comfortable, and much better for my playing style as well. (not to mention they look bitchin’)
The 2500-3500 price tags are the only down side…

http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-Custom/Alex-Lifeson-Les-Paul-Axcess.aspx [/quote] I haven’t really paid attention to music for a long time. I didn’t know Gibson had made a signature Lifeson model Les Paul, even though I have R U S H tattooed across my left knuckles from when I was a kid 30 years ago.
Great looking guitar, but a tremolo on a Les Paul still looks wrong to me. Like humbuckers on a Strat like I’m seein in the bridge position sometimes now too.

If i was in the market for a strat i would honestly want a humbucker in the bridge position. Im not really a strat fan though so thats probably why, i guess the enthusiasts might take issue with that.
I put Seymour Duncan Hot Stack Strat humbuckers in my Yngwie Strat. Single coil sized, the same ones what’s his face from Iron Maiden uses.
Not Adrian or Janick, Dave Murray I think…
What’s most fucked up about this vid is that the dude had to make the backing tracks and then overdub it all and edit it. His time would have been better spent learning to play in a working band…I’m assuming he’s a bedroom shredder?

Whats fucked up about this vid is that instead of appreciating a very entertaining and original video of a great guitar player emulating other great guitar players, you nit picked about whether or not hes played in a band before.
I dont care if you’re keith richards, if you cant play like this guy, then dont worry about when or how he chooses to play.

Why on earth would you feel comfortable making that assumption?

Just discovered this video today, this is the definition of guitar porn.
This is awesome! Saw it a few days ago - Great playing and the guy copped all the different player styles really well. Immediately saved to my “Guitar Lesson Stuff” folder - lots of awesome licks to grab here. : )
Strange - guys name is Ben Higgins - read up! : )
Born in Yeovil, England and growing up in rural Dorset, my exposure to guitars and music in general was my parents and all their friends. There was always a couple of acoustic guitars hung on the wall and, when people would come and visit, inevitably the guitars would come down to play ! However, it wasn’t until my mum showed me my first few chords ( I won’t embarrass myself by revealing the song… but it was a big hit for a certain Scottish band in the nineties which never seemed to leave the number 1 spot â?? think what the opposite to ‘dry’ is 3 times ! ) that I begun my journey into the wonderful world of guitar.
I bashed away with old Irish folk songs that my Dad had taught me… and I often found myself jamming along with anybody who was round the house. One thing, in hindsight, that these invaluable experiences did for me, was to help develop my musical ear… which helped me progress beyond the acoustic into the scarily exciting world of the electric…
The thing that changed it all was discovering an old Iron Maiden tape in a dusty corner at home. The album was ‘Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son’. Never before had I heard music so broodingly atmospheric, yet so anthemic. There was no going back. I had to have an electric guitar ! Being very blessed with having parents who actually supported my wish to delve into the world of music, I eventually did get my hands on a ¾ size, black Washburn. My Dad mentioned something about needing a distortion pedal, whatever that was. However, I wasn’t particularly interested in what a distortion pedal was or what it did. How things change…! In this case, they changed pretty quickly !
A couple of bands followed, each getting closer to the music I so wanted to be playing, until I now play guitar with the best musicians I’ve ever worked with and people I’m proud to call my friends in a band called The Reckoning.
Playing and Influences
As much as my favourite rock and metal bands kept fuelling my inspiration, the first guitarist who really turned my head around was Joe Satriani with his Surfing With The Alien album. His playing seemed untouchable… divine, in fact. However, the player who spoke to me the most is Marty Friedman. It’s the way he really gets into his guitar and bends and phrases like his hands are both elasticated but also made of iron… the passion of a true master.
I also deeply admire the man who inspired Friedman himself, the incredible Michael Schenker. In recent years it’s not just the music that’s inspired me… the words of the late and brilliant Philip Toshio Sudo and his book ‘Zen Guitar’ should be definite reading material for all musicians.

Eh…fuck that. I’ll tell ya why it’s just not that great. There are 5 other guys who can pretty much do what he’s doing within a 100 mile radius of any of us. Yes, he’s very technical. Yes, he can play. Other people’s shit, note for note. Great. Who cares? I have know so many guys like this, they can play other people’s solos BETTER than the original. And?
Do they have any of their own material? Do they actually play with a band? It’s one thing to wank in your bedroom or studio, it’s quite another to interact with other players in a live setting.
It’s not nit picking, it’s reality. It’s boring.

Did you even read what I posted about him - Ben Higgins, and yes, he plays in a real band.
I also have to disagree with your assessment. Number one - nothing there is note for note - he actually came up with original ideas in the style of each guitar player, without directly copping any particular solo. In other words, instead of playing the solo from Crazy Train during the Randy section, he simply took Randy’s overall playing style into account and came up with an original idea - that’s not a RR solo, just like the Schenker licks weren’t exactly from a MS solo - just an original idea using that player’s style.
And for that, I’d say the guy is pretty clever.
