God-like.

Steely’ll love this one.

IDK what it is, but I’ve never ā€œgotā€ George Lynch. It just doesn’t seem that great, I must be missing something.
I did see him open for Yngwie a couple of years ago. It was so-so and Lynch wasn’t into it, but really, who wants to open for YJM?

Eh - I guess it’s just that some players have a style that appeals to you, and others don’t. Lynch has always been a big influence - his tone, note choices, that incredibly cool, super-wide vibrato, and I have always loved his phrasing. His speed chops are great too - his legato is so smooth and fluid sounding.

I love Yngwie too - probably seen him 10 times or so live over the years, but he’s a very different player.

Lynch was a huge early influence for me. Speed, smooth legato, phrasing, everything. His phrasing is unique. Nobody sounds like Lynch, and if they do, it’s because they’re copying him.

The thing with Lynch is that he has a fat, fat, fat tone and it’s compressed and delayed and processed all to hell. That doesn’t translate well to camera phone vids and live interview ā€œhere play somehtingā€ scenarios. His sound is incredible on studio recordings and live in a mix. When he’s just freestyling without processing, his tone can be god awful.

maybe this has already been posted, but here’s one of my favourite guitar intros from my favourite guitarist of all time

Hendrix man, that guy could make his guitar sing

The name…is Dalton.

I have no fucking clue how that dude could play like that. I can’t even begin to pick out what he’s playing, even when they do close ups of his fret hand.

Totally unconventional playing style. If you watch the close-ups carefully, you’ll see that his thumb is doing most of the work, from slides, to position finding, bends, to fast runs. Legend:

The coolest thing I always liked about his playing is his vibrato. That upside down grip gives more leverage and you just get really high bends and wide vibratos.

Think Albert King (played guitar strung upside down). You totally hear the exaggerated bends and wide vibrato.

SRV definitely copped that sound from King.
