T-Nation Guitar Players' Thread

I’ll just leave this here.

Just discovered this thread and goddam i cannot wait to get a new phone (broke mine recently) so i can get some vids of me shredding up some old school metallica on here.

Some really cool vids from you guys, didnt realize so many of you regular posters were guitarists.

As far as gear goes, what does everyone use for effects? I just bought a boss gt-10 multieffects processor a week ago and i can hands down say it is the best guitar related purchase i have ever made. I run it through my computer through some M-audio brand speakers and the tone and effects i get from it are absolutely stunning. Hopefully ill get some videos up in the next couple days and you can hear for yourselves.

Also, for any of you guys who are real big into lead guitar shredding, you should really check this guy out on youtube. His name is Nicky Cotter (NicksterMC is his youtube name) and he is hands down the best guitarist ive discovered on youtube who is not Steve Vai. Incredible technique, composition and one of the coolest guitar collections you’ll ever see. His 3 Ibanez JEM’s literally give me a boner, especially his floral JEM (my dream guitar)

See for yourself. Heres some really fantastic steve vai style improvisation:

And this one is for all you dimebag fans. Absolutely flawless cover:

Sorry for blowing up this thread, its late, i dont have work tomorrow and im bored, but thought id throw this one out there too cause even if youre not a big Steve Vai fan like i am, you have to be blown away by his technique/compositional skills.

“he’s got a one tracked mind and a two string bass…”

Pretty good band, and that bass looks even sillier when you see it live. lol

Ah - this old thread. Here’s a little Pink - I shredded it up a bit…lol…

That was great! I’m a total audio/video retard when it comes to making videos with backing tracks that don’t sound like utter shit, any tips man?[/quote]

Thanks. : )

I don’t post here anymore for various reasons, but I still read the forums once in awhile and just saw this.

If you have a decent PC you can get a direct box emulator so you can record your guitar direct. Then use a program like Audacity to mix in the backing track with your guitar and use a web cam to film it. Then you can mix it together in a program like windows movie maker and synch up the audio/video.

It sounds harder than it is. Here’s a link that explains all the steps.

Best of luck.

That black JEM is awesome.

And for all you guys who crap on country players:

Have you guys ever wondered what famous players think when they see for lack of a better term “nobodys” absoloutly nail their shit? Youtube, bars, whatever. Don’t get me started on the little dripper’s playing stairway to heaven lol.

I watch from time to time videos of Dime when he was very young doing solos’s. It still blows me away how good he was so young. In interviews and books you read where guys would say “oh yeah, Dime was playing like that when he was seventeen at battle of the bands shows” WTF? Same with the drummer(The Rev) from AvengedSevenfold, his buddies say he was already banging out those incredible drum fills in HS.

He(Dime) was at the top of him game when he was murdered by that sick fuck. How much better technically could he have really gotten at that point? New riffs and effects sounds yes but better?

Apologize in advance if this is a stoopid question, just curious.

Dimebag was a straight up monster. Shudder to think what projects he’d be involved with now and how the whole landscape might be different.

I think most of them know that they are who they are because of a fortunate series of circumstances that put them in the spotlight.

They may be good or great and influential, but they know that they’re not the best and that some kid in Japan or in Buttfuck, NC kicks their ass somehow.

At Woodstock, Jimi Hendrix was asked “How does it feel to be the best guitar player in the world?”

Jimi answered “I don’t know, go ask Rory Gallagher”.

I think about this almost on a daily basis. I have his book, poster on a wall, hell I even bought a Dean ML because of him lol.

If I’m not mistaken some of those songs in the video game have some weird tunings in reality, most likely the Stones. How do they get around that I wonder.

Yeah, he uses a floral pattern JEM in some other videos from 93 that is just killer. Its not actually a paint job, its a floral pattern fabric modeled after steve vai’s mother’s curtains that is pressed on and clear-coated over the guitar.

Id agree with this. Few things annoy me more than reading the yearly “100 greatest guitarists” lists. There are so many names that pop up on those lists that cant hold a candle to most experienced bedroom guitar rockers.

There’s always the rare exceptions like the Steve Vais, Joe Satrianis, Dimebags and other virtuosos who really ARE some of, if not the best in the world. But then you get a guy like in those videos i posted, who is completely unknown except for on youtube, and probably one of the best guitarists ive ever seen/heard, but instead the dude from nickelback pops up on the list of greatest guitar players.

Such is popular radio.

Paisley has some cool Telecasters, had to have most of them replaced after the floods in TN.
