What do we do with them, I don’t know, maybe make the people who fucked responsible for it?
Responsibility for ones actions, now that is an idea whose time has come!
I see. It’s a foot-in-the-door to push your “abstinence” agenda.

Diabolical!

Actually, I am quite the fan of fucking. So no, I am not talking about abstinence. But, if you aren’t adult enough to take responsibility for you actions then you have no business doing those actions.

I take responsibility for my actions, thank you very much. What we are talking about here is empowering women versus keeping them subservient to the seed dropping rascals.

You’d fit right in the Dark Ages.

I’m readily in favor of anything that could reduce abortions; but I note that many, if not most, of the “pro-lifers” never consider what happens to the child after it is born. It seems sufficient to ensure he makes it out the birth canal alive, and then nobody cares what happens after.
What I find interesting is how often the people who are the most adamant opponents of abortion are also the most ardent supporters of the death penalty.

It would be the height of ironies if abortion was made illegal, and many of those extra million unwanted babies, born into poverty and neglect, grew up to commit heinous crimes. Then the very people who pleaded for their lives while they were still fetuses would likely be clambering for their deaths just two decades later.

Varq, you’re nothing if not a determinist.

The arguments are completely different, of course, and whether or not death is visited is a matter of criminal culpability, thus forfeiting your right to life. I think there are hard questions involved in coming to answers on both, but there is nothing inconsistent about being pro-life and pro-death penalty.

And, don’t get too far afield with the Freakonomics argument that all these “unaborted” kids go on to lives of crime. It isn’t a valid one.

Some survivors. That’s all.

I’m not all that fond of elevating one race over another. And I think at this point we, as a country need to ditch black history month. That doesn’t do one single positive thing for black people. But it does irritate whites and other racial groups.

That’s what I meant.

The bigger question: Why does it “irritate” whites and other racial groups that there is a Black History Month? So what is it about Black History Month that negatively affects so many lives?? Your posts tend to allude to the reasons as to why we ever needed a black history month in the first place. “I’m not all that fond of elevating one race over another”…LOL.

Why not just add black historic figures into the general lesson plan?

Oh goody…can’t wait.

I don’t know exactly what you are saying here, but I’ll comment anyway.

I’m not a fan of Obama, but I think one of the better things that would come from him being elected, would be that he IS a black president. He would be a highly visible, positive role model for young black children. Someone, among others, that could potentially compete against entertainers and athletes for the attention and admiration of black youths. I don’t see how that can be a bad thing.

Of course, I don’t really know what comment meant anyway, so I apologize if I’m reading you wrong.

I don’t see how anything’s elevated. And thanks for speaking on my behalf, but black history month sure doesn’t “irritate” me.

As far as anything positive, it highlights the achievement of prominent blacks in history that, for so long, were excluded from history lessons.

EXACTLY!..why wait till Black History Month in the first place? After all, black history is part of American history. But as we all know, not everybody shares that view. Its sad that we had to have a black history month in the first place…but even so,it doesn’t take away from black people…or any other group of people.

I would love to see a time when black history month is no longer needed. But as other recent threads(and where this one is headed)prove,we’re in no position to get rid of celebrations of minority cultures/history. When race is not so damn taboo in America, then we can get rid of Black History Month. Sadly,we will not see that anytime soon.

I don’t understand. If a school is going to follow a mandate of teaching black history during black history month, why not simply mandate the teaching of black historical figures in the general lesson plan? Say I’m the average white American History teacher (a closeted racist…I guess), if I’m going to accept and teach a Black History month, why would I be less likely to bow down to a mandate to add Black folk into the American History course?

That is precisely what we are talking about. He would prefer however if the woman were a non entity in the equation. She is to accept that her life is secondary regardless, and that she is a mere vessel for man, and must forfeit rights to her body.

This whole thing will unfold predictably. Same bullshit from people who call themselves ‘pro lifers’. My stance won’t change, I doubt anybody elses will either.

Here ya go Pat, heres your ‘facts’. Spark up your joint and enjoy.

Thats what I would like to know, too. I guess,we both don’t understand. Just to put something in perspective(sort of), my wife…a kindergarten teacher and maybe 3 other teachers(one of whom is white)put up stuff for Black history MONTH. In reaction to that, other teachers went to the principal and complained that no one was putting up stuff for President’s DAY. Keep in mind this was at the beginning of February…and when was President’s Day??

Don’t worry Pat, I got your back. Us Dark Agers gotta stick together. Muhaha.

Yeah, been there. People go for the sign, I gotta step up in their grill, a fight breaks out, etc. On the way home I fit in some gaybashing, spit out a few racial epithets, trip some old ladies, scare some children. Finally get home, park the pickup, make sure the rifle is secure in it’s rear window rack, relieve myself outside. Go inside, have a beer, smack the wife around a bit, and call it a night.

Just figured we’d get it all out of the way upfront.

Wow, you are one busy sloth. Of course it wasn’t directed at you personally, just an aspect not addressed. Points for the comedic stereotyping, but I’m afraid you forgot the dynamite.

What can I say, been out sick for 3 (this will actually be day 4) days with a nasty cold. And tonight I’ve given up on sleep, yet again, due to the throat. Eventually exhaustion will sink in and I’ll fade away into slumberland. For now, this is about all I have the temperment and energy for.

Honestly, it was an attempt at humor through absurdity. Just to diffuse any tension. I’ve gotten much worse-and in a much more serious manner-for taking a pro-life stance. And with that said, I think I’ll go stare at my eyelids and hope for some sleep.
