T-Nation College Football Thread

RJ, what’s the deal with the Big 10? Is it the gambling thing that came out of Northwestern a few years ago?
As a matter of fact, I actually rooted for Northwestern when they made their run at the Rose Bowl several years ago.

I think it’s the old coaches - Bo Schembechler and Woody Hayes. I’ve just always disliked Big-10 football. And the way the talking heads slobber over that conference just turns my stomach. The only conferences that I do like are the Big-12, and the SEC. The ACC isn’t too bad, but the Big East, Big-10, and PAC-10 are just crappy, over-hyped conferences in my opinion.

Time to get this thread going for the day.

Anyone have any insight on the games?

Maybe a little trash talk?
Some of these are tough to call this week. Not sure about Tenn vs. Georgia. Could go either way. However, in our favor, it would be good to see Tenn beat Georgia.

My picks (top 25 games):

Texas^

VT^

Florida State^

Tenn^

Ohio State^

Miami FL^

CAL^

LSU^

Florida^

Wisconsin^

Texas Tech^

Arizona State^

Boston College^

Louisville^

I think that Leinart has the smallest legs I have ever seen. He has to be smaller than Ken Dorsey was. Holy crap.

are there any gamblers on this thread?

i’m still scratching my head over UCLA’s backdoor cover vs Cal.

Dammit,

What a weekend. Michigan loses the Jug, Nebraska loses a heartbreaker, Wisconsin loses to freaking Northwestern.

Figured as much… Congrats RJ. Techs offence was much more potent than previously advertised.

At least Ohio State lost, and Michigan can redeem themselves a little by whipping Penn State Next week.

I have to go against what I said earlier about the Big 10. I have a soft spot for Penn State. I don’t really consider them a part of the Big 10 wrt being devil spawn, as they showed up to the party late after being an independent for so many years.

But seeing as how they sold their souls to Satan, they have some blame to bear. I guess sucking nutsacks for the last few seasons is patment enough, and now I hope Penn State makes it to a BCS bowl this year. Who knows - if they win out -= they could be playing for a National Championship.

Wouldn’t that just blow the minds of the football snobs on here? A Texas Tech v. Penn State game for the National Championship? Pleaase don’t wake me - I am rather enjoying this dream.

I hope Papa Joe kicks some major ass this year.

I think JoePa has his kids believing again. They’re young, and buying into the Mystique.

That being said, I don’t know how big of a roll JoePa plays in the day-to-day or gametime decisions anymore. During the game he paced around, sans headset, clip-board, or even a piece of paper. They never showed his coordinators that I remember, they just kept showing him pacing around with a gatorade towel around his neck, keeping the autumn chill away from his frail bones.

Christ he might as well be a mascot. Next to Bo Schembechler, JoePa is my Dad’s favorite coach, matter of fact he took me to Happy Valley on Vacation before I ever laid eyes on the Big House. So RJ, you’re right, for my Dad’s sake, and the sake of an ailing program it’s good to see Penn State doing well again. I’m just not sure how big a role JoePa really plays in their success besides being a figure-head.

Fuck me I need to get to work, I could ramble on about football all day…

Ok, so now I can add to this thread…FINALLY A D-1A WIN!!!

Go Cougars!!!

Ok seriously, I know it’s pathetic, BYU sucks…SO since I pretty much have no chance to even hope…Did anyone see the Louisville game…DAMN those guys are putting up serious points!

So True…this guy is older than dirt and yet he still it putting winning teams together…way to go GeriatricJoe

Notre Dame +11.5 or 12
at home
against USC

I believe I’ll take that bet!

But you’d be a fool not to take them if they are offered!
Just like hittin off a tee on a par three–because they let ya’.

USC vs ND is the obvious game of choice this weekend

UF vs. LSU is a bullshit game. LSU is overrated. UF will blow them out and think its some sort of indication that they are a top 5 team. If it weren’t for Katrina, LSU would be on the outside looking in.

So much for a UF blow out. LSU played a very sloppy game, but still pulled off a win. :stuck_out_tongue: Fuck Florida.

You want some salt with those words? Maybe a little ketchup?

Yesterday was one of the best days ever in college football.
