Man, how’d I miss this thread? I don’t care what anyone says, the Crossfit games are entertaining as hell. I wish WSM would learn a thing or two from these guys.

I’ve come full circle on Crossfit myself. I used to think it was the dumbest thing on the planet, but it is insane how much influence it has had on the fitness community. I think what sets it apart is that normal people feel like they can excel at it and anything that gets people off the couch and moving is a plus in my book. It can be fun too. Something some folks on here should make a note of.

And that Camille Leblanc,

I’ve come pretty much full circle as well, I think the biggest reason I disliked it so much was because I suck at all the biggest movements they use, and my ego just can’t handle that haha also in for the fittest chicks on earth.

I think I’m going to start Olympic Weightlifting here in the near future and i believe i have Crossfit to thank for that, i"ve never done a crossfit workout but i know they’d kick my ass for sure.

Brooke Wells has my heart…

Ya, that’s the thing, you can’t just be one of those strong, but fat as fuck dudes that can’t walk up a flight of stairs without getting winded if you want to be good at Crossfit.

Ya, a few years back I got into Oly lifting because of Crossfit and I will probably go back to it at some point. It’s a nice change of pace.

Recently I’ve been looking for some way to actually use my muscle instead of just being able to open a pickle jar easier.
I want some kind of competition in my life and Oly lifting has definitely caught my eye so when i’m done cutting ill either join a Crossfit gym or find a WL coach so I don’t paralyze or kill myself.

I hear you, competition is sorely lacking in my life too.

Something to think about. Most of the winners come from CrossFit. Beast of a course.

Ya, man, I love that show. The course is legit.

The American Ninja Warrior course looks like a beast too.

Which thing or 2 in particular? I am curious what strongman spectators would like from crossfit.

Obviously, they’re very different sports, but I think the formatting of the contest in general could gain from how Crossfit does it.

Strongman is awesome, I just don’t think it’s enough of a spectacle if that makes sense. Honestly, it’s boring to watch (on TV) and I think it doesn’t have to be.

They could also learn from Grid.

I believe you, but don’t understand you. I’m not trying to be obtuse, but I’m more curious if you had something actionable strongman could do. I see myself promoting a show in the future, and I’d like to make it exciting for spectators.

What could they do with the formatting, or what could they steal from Grid?

I’d like to see WSM get away from the multiple groups or heats (whatever they call them) and instead do more large group competitions. For example, instead of a group 4 doing sand bag carries, have 16 do it at once.

Logistics (and money…) could be an issue, but I think they could do some stuff.

I’d have to sit down and really think about it to give you a real answer. I just think too much of WSM is drawn out. It’s fun to watch a guy squat 700lbs for reps, but after a few guys it’s like okay let’s move on…

That makes a lot more sense, thanks.

It is primarily a logistical thing inherent in strongman BEING a spectacle sport. You’ll make a rig where guys are doing Viking press with motorcycles or squatting 700lb globes, but there’s simply only going to be SO many motorcycle Viking press apparatuses on the planet that it becomes impossible to get everyone competing all at once. There’s also something to say of the strategic benefit of going last in a group in strongman; you earn your placing by being the top performer, and it allows you to learn from others and know how much you need to do to win.

I see it more akin to field events; where everyone is taking turns with the shotput or javelin, rather than all throwing it at once.

You might like strongman team competitions though.

I think one of the draws is that events are typically a series, and time is a big factor (which it can be in strongman too). It makes it a race, very akin to medleys in strongman.

It’s a bit different, but an upcoming comp has an event where competitors carry a keg for 20’, press it twice, carry it another 20’, press it twice, etc. I feel this is different than most medleys, which focus on more singular aspects of ability (like db, axle, then log for reps) in that it combines two otherwise unrelated events.

That would be cool to see a stone series punctuated by a truck pull or fused into an overhead medley!

Yeah, medleys are always exciting. Definitely a crowd pleaser.
