Something I’ve been wondering about, @loppar.
Why is Assad keeping such a low profile?
(Or IS he?)
Then I guess Nancy Pelosi should call a vote and declare war.
Or…correct.
Because he fucking survived. The Assad clan have proven yet again, that even with odds stacked against them they’re natural survivors.
They pulled off this amazing feat of survival by carefully playing a ridiculously weak hand.

So Assad is going to keep his mouth shut and do whatever Putin tells him to do. The Russians need the fig leaf of a “legitimate” Syrian president.
I guess it’s the latter.
Calling Israel an angel is a bit of a stretch. Israel has blood in their hands too, but thats another topic…
About the truce. I have hard time believing it will fix anything. Erdogan can’t, or should not, be trusted. Only thing that prevents him going berserk is that US can freeze their economy. EU could take serious actions too, but EU usually fails to have a spine in global politics.
As with most “ceasefires”…the carnage never really stopped.
What a surprise.
Oh, BS. Only to the misinformed.
On topic, having left, over the course of numerous tours and different injuries, probably 3 gallons of my own blood in the sand of Afghanistan and Iraq and lost numerous friends, I can’t see any purpose for being there. It is a fucking tribal war.
It’s a horrible situation, but all the chickenhawks – from Lindsey Graham, to Mitt Romney, to Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Shumer – can go send their kids.
Oh, that’s right, Mitt, Nancy, and Chuck’s kids are all to important and rich to go. Lindsey is not married (to a woman, anyway) and has no kids.
If they want to have a war, go declare war and restart the draft. That’s 100% in the power of Congress.
See how popular this shit is when it’s not the .5% of the population that volunteers to defend the USA.
I fully understand this point. It should not be your war.
Problem is that Western powers (specially US) are partly responsible about the situation there. Iraq,Syria,Isis etc. have not evolved by themselves. So if US would completely leave now from the Middle East, it would be complete shitshow.
Other point is that in our global world problems tend to spread. The radical islam and the areas unstability will be a problem if west leaves it to be.
Third point is that if the US/west leaves the middle east, Russia will take over. This is already happening.
All this in mind, US should not just leave the mess. Sure it sucks to send people to die to something which is not directly connected to your country. But world sucks. Specially when it comes to a global politics. There is no good or bad guys, only global/local superpowers playing raw powerplay against eachother.
And we love Bibi right back…
This is why Assad is so quite. He actually sold his soul and his country to Putin to survive.
Time to bring the vote for war to congress.
Nobody on the world stage are actual ‘angels’, it’s a comparative thing. And they are the only country in the ME we can trust implicitly, especially when it comes to military action and loyalty to the US.
We concede that a Syrian war would be deeply unpopular. Jewbacca and I are talking about what it would actually take to make Syria resemble stability.
Thats def. true. Israel is the only real ally of the US in middle east.
Oh, and the truce has been already broken by the Turks.
Hey @pat you’re a Christian. What are your thoughts on Trump giving the green light to Turkey and their AQ proxies to invade Kurdish territory and massacre Assyrians, Armenians and other Christians who took refuge there? Surely a modern day King Cyrus wouldn’t do something to hurt fellow Christians, amirite?
And the “they’re all crazies” argument is a cop out.
You would, of course, be among the first to sign up to serve in said war, right?
What do you mean? He’s already behind enemy lines. He’s risking a lot just posting here. He can’t do it all himself; he’s just asking for a bit of assistance.
I am to old, you’ll have to go in my stead, but I would be grateful.
There is a waiver for that.
