Switched to compounded testosterone from a local pharmacy and haven't felt the same since

Hi! I’m actually here regarding my husband and his experience with switching from in office testosterone injections to having a local pharmacy do a compounded cream and then he switched from the cream to having the same pharmacy compound the injections.

Is it possible that using compounded testosterone cream and then switching to compounded testosterone injections can have almost an opposite effect compared to what he was receiving in office or even what he has used previously from pharmacies that he’s ordered from online? I’ve been digging through Google trying to find any kind of answer to my question but I don’t even know how to word it in order to find anything related to what I want to know.

Just wanting to give a little detail about what I mean exactly. A little over a year ago his doctor switched him from having in office injections to doing it himself at home due to insurance no longer covering them in office. At first she wrote a prescription for a specific local pharmacy for compounded cream. He went about 2 or 3 months using the cream and I believe he even started increasing his dose on his own and said he felt absolutely nothing. His doctor finally switched him to the compounded injection even though she swore that the cream should be way more effective. For months he said he felt nothing from the injections as well. He says he felt like he was just injecting water. He finally just stopped the injections altogether after getting frustrated with his doctor not listening to him. He asked several times for her to check his estrogen levels because he felt that may be the cause of how he was feeling and she wouldn’t.

For over a year now his moods and libido have changed drastically. I’m talking full on depression, low energy, almost zero sex drive… At times he says he feels like “nothing” I swear it was like a light switch from the time he switched over to the local compounded prescriptions. I remember it so well because for months he was happy, we were happy, literally sex every day, and he was just in general in such a good place. It’s like that all stopped almost overnight after he stopped in office injections. He’s the complete opposite now.

We are in our 30s and he has dealt with doing his own testosterone injections off and on since his early 20s. I say that to say this. He says he knows what test is supposed to feel like and he never got that feeling from his compounded injections or the cream. He says that what he was used to using would usually have a certain smell, he may have described it as a sweet smell, and this stuff just seemed like water to him.

Sorry for the novel… Here’s my concern or question… Is it possible that the compounded formulas weren’t right or they somehow had something in them that has completely messed up some other hormone or vitamin level or whatever and that’s the cause of his drastic mood change? I really don’t even know how to word my question or concern that well. But hopefully you get the gist.

I apologize if I’m not using the right terminology. I’m honestly just frustrated at this point and want to help him figure out what the hell is going on and what the possible cause could be. I strongly feel like it has to have something to do with what he started receiving from the compound pharmacy. Is it absolutely crazy to think those prescriptions he was receiving could possibly be the cause of all of this change?

What kind of test was he using prior to prescription?
What kind of test is the prescription?
Could be what he was using prior was overdosed or it had different esteres of test which would hit faster.
You shared a log story but didn’t really give any pertinent info.
Does he have any bloodwork from before/now?
Why doesn’t he go back to what he was doing before and see if anything changes?

This. It’s commendable you’re looking out for your husband but we need details.
What is his exact protocol? Type of testosterone, how much and how often does he inject, does he do subq or intramuscular? Does he take an aromatase inhibitor? HCG?

Has he introduced any other medication since?
